Tomorrow I'm going to share a few ways you can help Leslie Sisti's family if you are interested. I was able to attend her funeral today and it was a beautiful tribute but heartbreaking. Next week I will get back to doing our tour of the United States (but if you live in Colorado or Connecticut - I need you to email me at kellyskornerblog@gmail.com and share all your favorite places with me!)
Well, it's been three months since I had Will Holden.
And because I told you before I wanted to be accountable - I'm going to give a weight loss update. I will try to do this monthly until I meet my goal (and maybe after to see how maintaining goes - because let's be realistic - that's equally hard).
I've had ups and downs.
Right around the time I decided to focus on losing weight, I also quit breastfeeding. The weight had been coming off quickly but that came to a halt. And I would start off eating well and then we would decide to go eat Mexican food. Or a friend would invite me to eat somewhere or I would find a stash of Oreos in the cupboard. (I'm trying to just be completely honest). I will be the first to say that a lot of my entertainment and rewards are bound up in food and I'm trying to change that.
Also, exercise has been very hit or miss. My only form of exercise right now is trying to walk each night but it rained for about three weeks straight which messed me up. I try to go later at night once Will Holden is in bed and the girls are ready for bed but that can sometimes be 8:30 and then I have about 20 minutes of light left. And sometimes I'm just tired at the end of the day and don't feel like it. I would love to set an alarm and work out early in the morning but I never stick to that. So I'm working on this. I hope to join a gym this fall so that will help. It's just plain hard as a mom to do everything you need to do and take care of everyone you need to and still carve out time to work out (and to have the energy to).
So finally two weeks ago, Scott and I went back to a clinic that we have done before to lose weight. Scott has had great success on their program and I had JUST started losing weight LAST JULY when I found out I was pregnant in August and had to quit. I was up a few pounds to 170 when we went in two weeks ago and this morning I was 160. I will share more about this program next month after I see how it goes.
It mostly has us eating whole foods - a lot of vegetables and protein. No sugar. Very little carbs. I've traded in diet coke for water (well, I still sneak in maybe one a day but I'm working on it). I've rid the house of much of anything besides these foods. It's actually not a hard diet to be on. We don't eat out right now. And it's working. My girls even decided they like salmon (you have no idea how picky they are - that's huge!)
I know there are a million ways that you can lose weight. I think everyone can find something that works for them and I don't know that any way is better than any other. It really boils down to eating healthy and exercise and drinking water. That sounds easy but in this world of busyness and fast food - it's not always as easy as it sounds.
My clothes are fitting a little bit better. And I'm feeling a little better about myself. I feel like I look in the mirror and I'm beginning to recognize the old Kelly again. I still have a way to go but I just look forward to having a little more confidence and feeling healthy and not sluggish. That's really what I'm after - to stay young to keep up with my kids! No one is trying to be a bikini model here.
So here are the humbling pictures. Sometimes when I'm tempted to eat ice cream - I just remember that I'm going to post a picture of myself on here and have to show some progress and I can choose a handful of almonds instead. ha!

Leslie Sisti
She wrote the blog blondeambitionblog.com. You can read and see her love of life and her family.
I want to share service information with you and also a place you can donate if you would like to help her family. Most of all - would you please pray for her family who lost a daughter and especially Stephen who lost his wife and those precious baby girls who will never get to know their amazing mother.
The fund is http://www.gofundme.com/d53bgd5p8s.
Also - a group of bloggers plan to do posts tomorrow to remember Leslie and will use the hashtags #beblessedlovelies (as that's how Leslie always signed off on her blog) as well as #rememberingleslie if you would like to join in.

Summer Fun
(The dress is Braxton Ivy brand. I've tried finding it online and can't???? and the Shoes are Minnentonka Isabel sandals. And they are cute and SO comfortable for wedges!)
Harper starts school one week from today. So we are packing a lot of fun into this last week of summer. I love these three so much. It's not always easy to get all ready and head out to do stuff but I'm always glad we try! I do plan to let us sleep in every morning this week and not rush because starting next Monday - it's going to be early mornings again at our house.

The Beauty Within
Will Holden will be three months old tomorrow. So I'm edging up on three months after having a baby and so this weekend/Monday I'm going to write an update on my weight loss journey. I've had ups and downs and probably face a lot of the same hurdles that most of you do. The good news I have lost some - it's just a slow process. I will give specific details on that in a later post but I wanted to address something that so many of you mentioned as you commented on my original weight loss post.

This post is sponsored by Kohl's and Carter's.
Well, we are three weeks out from the start of school in my area and I have mixed emotions. I'm ALMOST ready to be back in the routine but I'm also in disbelief that my middle baby starts kindergarten! I will say it's MUCH easier the second time around sending a child to school. I cried and cried before sending Harper and this time I'm mostly excited. Only because I know she will love it and I have seen how great it can be!
I'm sending off a second grader, a kindergartner and one little baby boy to Mother's Day Out. So this means I'm busy lining up backpacks, school supplies and school clothing and shoes.
Kohl's and Carter's asked me if I wanted to do a little Back To School shopping with them. And I jumped at the chance because I love them both.
I've always been a big fan of Carter's. My kids have almost only exclusively worn carter's pajamas. They are just the absolute best. And I love their outfits too. And Kohl's always runs such great deals on kid's clothes.

CALIFORNIA
Every Friday, I am featuring a different state. Blog readers are submitting their favorite spots in their states and it's a compiling a really fun travel guide to refer to! So far we have had the A's:
Eats: the filling station - great burgers and everything else. It's right next to downtown which is so cute. You can walk around it then grab dessert at A La Minute. They make all the ice cream right there using locally sourced ingredients. It's AMAZING.
My favorite beaches to visit. Generally not crowded and super easy access. I always see Dolphins jumping out of the water off shore.
Balboa Island: a must do. So so fun!
The Crab Cooker: local, fresh seafood that's amazing and a great price.
Balboa island is nice to walk around, and try a balboa bar, they're delicious.
Of course Disneyland is a must, but it really is a must. It will be crowded but it is every bit as magical as you hope it would be.
Knotts berry farm is great, but if you're doing both Disney and Knotts, you will be disappointed if you go to Disney first. Knotts is smaller and much less organized. But if your kids love the peanuts gang they'll have a great time.
Try to see a show at the pantages theatre in L.A. or the ahminson or if you're in Orange county go to the Orange county performing arts center (sergerstrom performing center for the arts).
Malls:
South coast plaza in Orange county is the biggest mall I know of (in California). It's very high end, but still fun to shop at. When I was in Europe I remember thinking every high fashion store I saw in Paris was also at south coast. I know that seems braggy (and I'm not high fashion) but if you're in town it's fun to walk around. Fashion island in Newport is another fun mall. That one is outdoors.
Go eat at Santa Barbara Shellfish Company. It's on the end of the wharf and so good.
From here we drove up highway 1 (PCH) to Santa Cruz. It was AMAZING. You go through Big Sur and pass Hearst Castle. It's a great use of your time.
Japantown: One of the few remaining Japantowns in the US, has sushi and ramen restaurants, specialty dessert places (mochi, shaved ice, manju, etc), an Asian grocery store, and a great coffee shop (Roy's).
Recycle Bookstore: Charming used book store complete with a resident bookstore cat (locations in San Jose and Campbell)
