Do you see what I see?

So many of you wrote me last night and this morning to see what I thought about the MOST DRAMATIC Bachelor finale ever. Well - I couldn't answer ya'll because I was outnumbered 2-1 at my house last night. My mom was here and she and Scott wanted to watch "24" and think the Bachelor is nonsense (which it is but I still love it). So of course I cheated and found out what happened before I actually finally watched it this afternoon. I think you can all guess what I think. I think Big Mama wrote a great post on it today.
So Nonny came over yesterday to help watch Harper while I went to a few appointments. I hit up my annual trip to the eye doctor today. Does anyone HATE the eye doctor besides me? (Not the doctor personally because mine is SO nice). I always feel like I'm taking the SAT and I'm flunking. I'm blind as a bat so it stresses me out when I take my contacts out and I have to answer "is this one better or this one?" or "what is the smallest row of letters you can read" and I can barely even see the chart. I always start sweating and feel so nervous. Then I had my post partum follow up visit which basically amounted to me visiting with my doctor and nurse. We are all a little sad because I've seen them once a month (or once a week) for the last almost 2 years and now I won't see them again for a long while. Is that crazy? ha!

Harper enjoyed spending a little time with Nonny. Hillary - this outfit is for you!!! :-)
(Her hair isn't red - it just looks like it in this picture and her eyes are still dark blue.....the jury is still out on what color they will stay).
You have all been wondering and I have an announcement - the GREAT reunion 2009 between us and Dawson will finally be happening on Friday! I will let you know how it goes. I have a feeling we are going to have to put Dawson on prozac because he will be so depressed. He has been having such a good time living in the country with my parents. He runs loose in the woods, chases deer (and apparently eats their poop but I'm trying very hard to pretend that never happened) and is excited to eat dog food (I hope my vet isn't reading this but he mostly eats people food here and turns his nose up at dog food but maybe he is finally trained correctly) ha! If you want to see how much fun he has been having - you can look at my dad's blog.
And finally - before I had Harper, I made a bunch of meals and froze them for us to eat later. I made a recipe I had never had before to try something new. It turned out REALLY good so I posted the recipe on my recipe blog. It's Swiss stuffing chicken. And it tastes great after being frozen for weeks. Try it out! YUM!

Wow! I am so impressed with how prepared you were at making meals before you had Harper! I have a hard time even making a few meals a year for my family.

Yay! LOVE me some make-ahead meals...thanks! I've always disliked those eye exams too...sometimes it's just too hard to tell which is better or worse! :) Glad to hear Dawson will be reuniting with ya'll and so happy the fam is doing well.

That's the sweetest cupcake I've ever seen! Yep, Dawson just may need some doggie Prozac after his good ol' country livin'. I'm sure he'll be happy to see y'all!

Glad you and your sweet family are doing so well. I'm enjoying reading your blog every day.

Harper is such a doll! You ake me so jealous that I am having another boy. I will have to get my bow fix by looking at her pictures. I noticed that she still seems to be suffering from some of that baby ezcema. I know you got a million suggestions when you asked last week but I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents in case nothing else works. My son had the same issue and we switched to Gentle Naturals Baby Ezcema Wash, Gentle Naturals Cradle Cap shampoo and their Ezcema baby lotion. They come in a teal blue bottle with Winnie the Poo characters on them. They is quite a bit more expensive than the other brands of baby stuff but it worked like magic for us. We have been using them on him for 2 years and a little bit goes a long way. May I also use this opportunity to give a shout out for Dr. Smith's Diaper Rash cream? That stuff is a miracle on earth. Ok, all done.

I love Harper's bow! And YEA for puppy & Harper meeting for the first time! I'm sure he'll be very protective of cute little Harper

I completely get how attached you are to your Dr. and the nurse(s). They have been right there during the most trying/exciting times in your life! I feel like they are part of the family by the time the baby is born! I hear you on the eye doctor too. They aren't mean about it but they DO set you up to fail once your contacts are out. I tell myself, "This is all to help me..." but it still feels like you're getting bad news every time. The new recipe sounds great!

What a beautiful baby girl! A previous commenter said something about excema...My 20 month old is finally finished with his, we switched to Aveeno baby wash & aveeno baby lotion, worked like magic on his skin!

I dont like eye exams much either. I think I'll definetly try that recipe out, heading over to your recipe blog now! =)

HI Kelly,
I can't believe there aren't 200 messages before mine. I agree, the eye dr. is stressful. Is no.1 or no.2 better? Gee, I can't see well enough to tell! So I have put that little trip off for a while. Can't wait 'til Dawson see Miss Harper! Have the camera ready. He may get real possessive and guard her. My dog used to sleep under the crib guarding my son. I know you enjoyed having your Mom stay for a few days. Aren't nonnies wonderful! Harper is getting prettier every day.Wish I could hug her, so you will have to do it for me. No great burden there.
Keeping you in my heart in GA.

Mmmm...that chicken sounds yummy! I didn't watch The Batchelor either, but I heard all about the drama from my girls! I was looking at Harper's picture and it looks like her eyes are still blue! Yay for that! (I know you were hoping they would stay blue! She's such a cutie pie whatever her eye color is!!!

I hate the eye doctors too!... I might not be legally blind without my contacts but I sure feel that way!

I also just want to tell you that your blog and Harpers story really made me embrace God again. My mom recently died in the summer of cancer and I am only 18. My littlest brother is 10. So after that, my relationship with God was pretty shaky. Harper just made me see the true side of God and prayer and really makes me appreciate the workings of God again.

oh. and Harper just has the most adorable outfits and the cutest little face.

AshleighWilson said...

I too agree about the doctor relationship. I actually saw mine today, and had to take my mom with me so I could show him my 2 1/2 year old twins and 4 1/2 year old. He was such a part of our lives too, and actually delivered my sister and I AND my husband. So he is extra special if you ask me. Harper is just precious by the way, I don't know if I have ever actually told you that or just myself everyday.

I hate going to the eye doctor too. I can't see a thing without my contacts! My eye doctor is super nice. I babysat his kids when I was in college so I have known him forever!

Love the cupcake onesie.

Having cabin fever here. My little guy is sick and has been home for three days...tomorrow will make 4 but he developed a fever last night and still has one tonight and he is so sad :( His nose is stuffed up and he told me that it's not working.

That is so funny...I always try to "win" the eye chart game. And-the eye doctor and the dentist are tied for my least favorite appointments to go to. The eye pressure thing when they blow that air into your eye-ugh!

Let me just say "stupid bachelor!" I cant believe I wasted all that time. Ugh.

Also, that sweet Harper is ADORABLE!!! And, I completely understand about the DR thing. They become family to us.

Is it just me, or does Harper have red hair and blue eyes? She is so pretty! Also, we really do have friends that had to put their dog on an anti-depressant when they brought their baby home. He was completely spoiled before and has been crazy ever since (it's been almost 5 years!). It might be best just to treat him like your dad does! You can always try the Dog Whisperer too if he does get a little nutty. HA!

Ok... HA! I HATE going to the eye doctor. I feel the same way, like I'm flunking a test. My vision is ridiculously bad too... I try to find ways around going as much as I can. :)

I am right there with you at the eye doctor! They apparently never look at my chart because they always have me take off my contacts and read the smallest line. And my response is always "uh, I can't even see the E"! I'm glad I'm not the only one!! Haha

Ashlee said...

Girl, I just can't get over how much we have in common. No, I'm not some weirdo stalker, but it's just strange. I also HATE the eye doctor. I can't walk straight without my contacts (you know how it is!) and to top it off, my doc has to dilate my eyes EVERY TIME I go and look at my retina with this light that feels like it's blinding me instead of helping me not go blind. Anyway... I hope you got a good report. I have to go also in the next few weeks.
I can't believe the bachelor either, and I too (like Big Mama) was disappointed in Brothers and Sisters' "shocking death." Whatever!

Stephanie said...

I just love Harpers onesie!!!! She's adorable whatever she's wearing though. I know that it did you some good to get out of the house for alittle while today..sometimes it doesn't take much to make a difference. I was screaming at my televisin last night when the Bachelor was on..oh my I just can't believe he did that. There's another hour of After The Final Rose on tonight at 10.

I saw that others had already left advice about the baby eczema, but I am going to also...milk of magnesia, smoothed on her face wherever it is, then let it dry until bathtime...it soothes the itch. (and helps it heal) my youngest had it when he was a baby, we used baby phisoderm to wash him in, then put milk of magnesia on him at bedtime...it seemed to really help...by the way, she is a gorgeous child! I love her outfits!

I can't believe it--I made the same thing for dinner (and I had never made the recipe before either)!! Except, my recipe is a little different. I made mine with shredded mozzarella, you use a 1/4 cup of water instead of cooking wine and no melted butter. Yours might have tasted better :) My husband and I enjoyed it! Harper looks so SWEET in her cupcake outfit!!

Oh Kelly I was totally shaking with excitement reading this post, which probably isn't appropriate for 2.41AM but anyway...

I totally hate the eye doctor. Really, really hate it. I put it off for as long as possible because I just find it sooooo embarassing being asked to read the chart when I can basically see NOTHING! Like even the top letters are blurry for me. Oh such mega cringe.

I am so excited to hear Dawson is coming home. So, so excited. I guarantee he'll be all over you.

My daughter is 8 months old now, and I still miss my doctor and his WONDERFUL OB nurse.

Since I had a tubal ligation after Lola was born I won't be needing her services anymore, which makes me sad (however, not sad enough to regret my decision to have a tubal. My body does not like being pregnant. 'Nuff said.)

I found your blog via a prayer request for Harper, and I am so glad I did. Keep your chin up. It all gets easier. You and that precious baby will find your own way through this twisty-turny maze of motherhood.

I hate the eye doctor too! That little air puff machine is the worst thing ever invented! Harper is getting so big! i love the smiles! I didn't watch the bachelor but watched the after show on the internet this morning! All I can say is WOW!I bet Dawson will love Harper! My dog pretends he doesn't like our grand daughter but he sleeps right by her crib when she comes to stay with us! Have a great night!

Angela said...

This cracked me up b/c the eye doctor makes me nervous too like the wrong answers will make them hurt me or something. Dr: Is this one better than this one? Me: Umm.... Dr: Which one is better? Or is one just smaller and darker than the other? Me: Ummm.... So stressful!

Laura said...

I was SOOO sad when I had my last post-birth visit with my doc, too! I just loved her to death and the thought of not seeing her anymore made me so sad!

Verna said...

I had one eye doctor who hated me and kept telling me to quit that. I wasn't doing anything, yet he kept saying it over and over.
At a visit to a different eye doctor the next time when I told him he laughed and said, he probably said that cause your right eye is looking out the side instead of out the front.
I didn't know that at that time, I just knew they had to put prizm in my lens to make one eye come up the other down and make them both focus out front. Having very sensitive eyes I cannot wear contacts. So whenever I get bumped or a child head butts me, I am in big trouble if they hit my glasses. It sends one of my eyes into a jumping fit. And without my glasses I'm not blind, but do see double. So I can relate to you not liking eye exams.
But, I have learned our eyes are very precious. We all need to take good care of them!

Kelly,
I don't think it's weird that you'll miss your OB office. I get really sad when I go to my post partum appointment. Especially when I hear a mom in the next room listening to the baby's heartbeat. :(

Also. I prepared meals before my Lydia was born and it was SO nice. I really had meals covered (after our Sunday School brought meals) for 6 weeks! So lovely.

Oh I totally missed my ObGyn after giving birth! In fact, I had 3 babies in 3 years so we got very acquainted, but I did promise him after this last baby that I would not be back for an entire year, and he said, in a told ya so sort of voice, "You're going to miss me..." I guess the withdrawals aren't all that uncommon! Did you feel a little shy when you went back for this appointment? I did! It was like we had gotten to know each other so well that I was embarrassed for him to see me naked! How crazy is that!?!

I love the way you described the eye doctor...I never really thought of it that way, but it really is pretty nerve-wracking when you really don't know if number one or number two is better. Yep, I'm one of those who can't see "the big E" either...I suppose I should count my blessings that contacts/glasses corrects the problem though.

I have made your "poppyseed chicken" recipe a couple times...and it is DELICIOUS! I am excited to try the Swiss stuffing chicken :o)

Take care.

The eye doctor is so stressful. I put it off as long as possible. This time, they gave me a new set of contact lenses, and they really aren't working for me, but I keep wearing the painful lenses because I don't want to go back. I'll get around to it in a week or two, I just have to get the willpower to do it :)

I couldn't find the address you sent me way back when, but I sent it to Scott Stamps in Fayettevilleand found an address on whitepages.com. I sure hope there aren't 2 Scott Stamps!!!!! If so, do you know him? Could you ask the other Scott for your gift?! ha ha. Kelly I love your blog! Your daughter is just precious and reminds us all what is important in life!

I just wanted to let you know that even though people say all the time that they are "legally blind", that term actually means that you can't see the "big E" with your BEST correction on (glasses or contacts). I am an eye doctor and work with people all the time who really are legally blind, and feel the way you do without your contacts in all the time, every day. So I just wanted to remind everyone to count their blessings that something as simple as glasses or contacts can help them see the world beautifully- that is not the case for everyone!

And I am so sad that you all hate going to the eye doctor so much- eeek I hope my patients don't feel the same way!

I am laughing hysterically about what you said about the eye doctor....that is how I feel too!! I take out my contacts and I think OMG I can't see a thing. And then if I give the wrong answers he is going to give me a wrong prescription for new lenses....LOL. Glad I am not the only one!!

E @ Oh! Apostrophe said...

Oh no Kelly don't worry I wasn't offended! It's just that I hear everyday "I'm legally blind" from people who have really great vision once they put their glasses or contacts on! I can't see the chart without my contacts in either, so I know how frustrating it is... can you imagine not being able to see the chart EVER (or anything- a book, your family, your baby!) even with contacts or glasses? I see people who truly are legally blind and so I just feel badly when the term gets tossed around- how anyone who truly is legally blind would love to have vision like yours or mine. Stepping off my soapbox now... PSA over :)

It's so funny you mentioned the color of her hair, because in the first picture with your momma, I was thinking that their hair looks exactly the same color! I saw the video your daddy posted the other day with Dawson tearin' through the woods. He looked like a cotton tumbleweed out there. Eating...deer...poop...Kelly! That is so funny. I have never had a dog so all things dog are foreign to me...I'm dying laughing at that! I cannot wait to hear what he thinks of his new sister! ;o) Now, I'm off to check out the recipe... Have a great day, Kelly...and kisses to Harper...right on her wrist creases, hehe! ;o)

Hi, Kelly! I've been reading for a little while but have never commented, although I've been praying for sweet little Harper. What a doll!

Anyway, I just had to laugh when you were talking about the eye doctor. I feel the same way! Often, I can't tell a difference between the two choices he gives me, so I'll pause for a long time and then say, "Uhhh...two?" Sometimes the doctor even asks, "Are you sure?" which makes me feel like such a dummy. I've even gotten up to, "Which is better, 13 or 14?" I think that's how long it takes for him to realize that I'm never going to get it "right." :)

I had not watched any of this season on the bachelor until Monday night. My husband, who thinks it is a ridiculous show and I'm inclinced to agree, watched it with me. We had a blast because we made up our own lines. What if the bachelor had a "keepin it real" version? In our version, when they got back from commericial break, the bachelor would have scratches all over his face, a bloody lip and black eye because Melissa wasn't having all that nonsense! :)

I just started reading your blog a couple of weeks ago. I am glad Harper is home and healthy. As a former NICU nurse, I have prayed many a prayers for little lives hanging in the balance. But thankfully, God is a good God! I look forward to reading more about Harper as she grows.

I have been gone for a couple weeks and realized how much I missed reading your blog! I don't mind the eye doc, but I hate the dentist and that electric toothbrush...like nails on a chalkboard to me!

I usually don't watch the bachelor but did watch the finally and felt sooo bad for Melissa and thought Jason came across as a wimp!

As always I love seeing Harper's outfit of the day...you have inspired me to do the same, going to start tomorrow!

Thanks for your prayers Kelly, we are definately at a crossroads right now. Harper looks so cute in her little bows! And that dish looks so good...even after it's been frozen, you would never know it! Much love, Becky

I hate going to the eye dr., too. I'm in graduate school and have a 4.o and I feel like an eye exam is harder than any other test I've taken in my life. What if I say the wrong lens is sharper? Blurrier? Will they think I have some eye problems? And seriously, I CANNOT READ THE EYE CHART without contacts. It's so stressful. Ugh. I'm sl glad I'm not the only one who detests it!

ps. My mom and sister are looking for a place to relocate too, in the Chicago area. They are currently living down south. Please pray for them as they try to follow God's leading! Thanks so much!

Okay,so I really hesitate to even ask this because the last thing I want to do is offend you or hurt your feelings. But I am going to ask so her it goes. What is the deal with the size of Harper's hair bows?Is this a southern thing?I am in Indiana and I don't recall ever seeing a baby with a bow like this. Now please don't get me wrong.I think that they are adorable(but then again she could make a paper bag look adorable).I guess I am just a curious yankee!I am so glad that she is continuing to do so well!

Kelly, Harper is a beautiful girl with such a special story. I have a little one, Jack, who is 9 weeks old today. He had the same type of rash it looks like Harper has. He did have the infant acne that looked just like acne...but also had a rash that I thought was more acne, but turned out to be "cradle cap gone bad." Our pedi said to use Selsun Blue shampoo (mix 1 capful shampoo and one capful water), 2 X a week and brush, brush, brush his hair. She also gave us an Rx for U-Cort, a hydrocortisone cream that we used for a week. Jack's skin looked like a baby's again the next day!!! We have discovered that his skin is very sensitive and when he gets hot or doesn't agree with the fabric of whatever the person holding him was wearing, we see some redness and irritation at times...so, like you, I have learned to keep things cool here and drape a soft cotton blankie if fabric is hot or "itchy." Sorry so long, but did want to share...Harper's story illustrates how amazing medicine is, but more importantly how amazing the Lord is! He is our healer, and he does work everything to his good. Psalm 139 tells us our days are planned for us. With this start, can you just imaging what wonderful plans God has for Harper to minister to others in the future! Blessings from South Louisiana

If you are into the meal freezing method, Don't Panic Dinner is in the Freezer, is a must have. These recipes are not only easy to make but sooooo good and they have a great variety. I'm hoping they make a squel!!!!!( Oh yeah, I joined the Cary Hairbow club and I love the first bow, CJ got.

Life is going to be great for all of you when Dawson returns. You don't need to worry about a thing. He will love that sweet baby girl and protect her beyond anything you could have imagined. I think you'll be surprised at how well he will adjust to life with Harper. Do not be anxious! By the way, I just posted yesterday about our Bichon Frise, Charlie, and one of my readers suggested you should read it for encouragement. Also, I just watched you Dad's videos...that Dawson needs to come visit us in Mississippi...Charlie would love it!

Barb M. says:

If you signed up for a reality show wouldn’t you expect the ending to be on? I mean really……………………. I don’t understand all the fuss. Everyone that signed the contract to be on the show did it of their own free will and they are all adults over 21. ABC is running a business………do you really expect them to not air a show that has sent the airwaves to such a high frenzied level of buzz?

Melissa put herself on National TV. Jason didn’t do it. ABC didn’t do it. How many other people on the show have been embarasssed? How about every guy that was on bended knee proposing & being turned down? We have seen other contestants embarrassed by stuff…………….how mortified was Jason when he was on bended knee proposing to Deanna? Why did Deanna let it go that far? Why did she let him stay on his knee so long before she finally told him…….he wasn’t the one? Her response when Jason asked that question? “I guess I got caught up in the moment”. What about when Charlie was turned down by Trista? Think he was embarrassed? How about when Jenn got 2 proposals. How many times have there been double proposals? How would you like to be the one on bended knee being turned down? Do you think they are hurt & embarrassed? I don’t see why this is any different from hurt & embarrassment to any other signee of the show. Every season someone gets hurt & hurt bad. Melissa put herself on National TV. She signed up to do the whole show & not “part” of the show. Melissa is responsible for being on National TV…..she’s responsible for being hurt on National TV. No one did it “to” her……..she signed up freely & knew that anything could happen.

One of the great things about reality shows is that it is so raw. All reality shows are for the shock factor because people are people. They make mistakes, they do stupid stuff etc. I’m sure that alot of the people on reality shows would just love to be able to pick what airs on them. That’s not part of the deal. Melissa showed up for the “after show”………….I have to believe that she was under contract to do so………..she knew it was over before she came out…….look at her face. Why did she come to the “after show”? Probably because she had to legally. Same for Jason.

I did the same thing before my second son was born. I spent 4 days cooking and freezing and my husband thought I was crazy. But he was appreciative later when we had good meals on the table night after night. I was already used to batch cooking and freezing baby food, so it was just like that but skipping the pureeing step (he also appreciated that). I've joked with my friends that I should make a cookbook of meals to cook and freeze.

HA! I went through withdrawal from my doc too -- at the six week appt I almost cried, I was so happy to see her. I saw her SO MUCH the last six weeks of my pregnancy, it was hard not to see her smiling face all the time after I had him. I totally get it -- I love my doc and always will -- she was a part of the most glorious moments of my life.
