Sunday

I wanted to give you a little glimpse at my future Miss Arkansas!
These are the best pictures we have of her right now because we have to be careful not to stimulate her by touching her or talking too loud or using a flash. We will get a MILLION pictures of her once she gets good and healthy - but for now we just want her to get well.
We think she is the most precious thing we've ever seen. I love her so much. I just can't wait for the day I can hold her and sing to her and feed her and dress her and play with her!

I'm sorry we are just now getting an update to you. My parents and I got to Tulsa about 5 yesterday. We were immediately greeted by a sweet couple who live in the area and had read my blog and had been in our situation and just wanted to comfort us and let us know they were thinking of us - they brought us a big bag of snacks and magazines and necessities. We took their picture but I'm having technical difficulties. Kuykendalls - thank you so much! Our Sunday School teachers came and sat with Scott most of the day yesterday and brought us a lot of things to help us as well. That was such a comfort to Scott.
And then out popped my blog friend Caroline and her mother! They had driven from Dallas all the way to see me. I had always hoped we would meet in real life one day and never dreamed it would be this way but we were so blessed to have them come and it just gave us a HUGE lift. (I am SOOOOOOOOO swollen from all the fluids I was given and from crying for the last 2 days - so excuse the way I look) (not that it matters).
We have had SO many people who have read my blog and are in the area bring us flowers and letters and cards and just give us encouragment. You hopefully know who you are and I hope to thank you somehow. We are overwhelmed with the outreach of so many people. I haven't had a chance to read all of my comments and e-mails. I may not respond to you right now but I want you to know that we have cried a thousand tears over how much each and every word of encouragment and prayer has meant to us. Know that we are SO eternally grateful. We would never be able to bear this if we didn't know we were covered in prayer.

We are waiting to hear from the doctor today and I will let you know what he says. Right now she is still stable but in VERY critical condition. They think she could be having heart issues. We may have a very long road ahead of us but we believe that God is going to heal our baby and He is going to use her in a very mighty way. We know God says in the Bible that when two or more agree in His name - He will answer. And we know we have 2 or 3oo,ooo people praying for us. Our prayer is that all who pray for Harper will see God's might and power and His love in the miracle we know He is going to do for us.

We love you all - whether we know you or not. Please keep praying.

There no worse feeling that having a sick child that is in the hospital. My son was born 6 1/2 weeks premature. He spent 15 VERY LONG days in the NICU. Its a horrible feeling having to leave your child there, but your faith in God will get you through this and she will be home before you know it. She is beautiful and I know you are very proud of her.

From one mommy to another, please know that I believe God hears a mother's plea ten-fold! I have just finished a heart-felt prayer for Harper, and for you and your family-for the doctors and all those who are putting every effort into Harper's health. You don't know me from Adam, but we are mommys, Christians, and beleivers in the power of God the Almighty...good enough for me to call you a friend! Hang in there. My daughters each have been hospitalized in the first year of their lives; and I know the heart wrenching of each unknowing minute. (and they are 5 and 2 now, and full of life and love-as will Harper be!) Someone told me: "When you are at the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on, because Christ will be there to hold you up in it all and get you through." You are in the midst of an Earthly battle, but with the grace and power of Heavenly forces. My prayers are with you and Harper-keep us posted on that beautiful baby!
Blessings,

Do not feel that you need to respond to everyone. I think they understand. I am Amy from Word from the Herd. I just read Rhonda at Southern Hospitality asking for prayers. I came over and see this gorgeous baby girl. She has such beautiful color and is so healthy. We lift you all up in prayer. I have seen many wonderful miracles in the lives of sick babies I know. I am so happy to hear of all the people in the Tulsa area who have been taken care of you. God Bless and I will be praying and checking in. Keep up your health and strength.

I've been following your story and praying for your family since I read that you were in labor. My youngest had to be in the NICU for awhile after birth and it was very difficult not to be able to hold him--I experienced alot of "liquid hormones" which is what the nurses called my crying. Though it's tough to see your baby hooked up to all sorts of monitors and poked and prodded, know that God has Harper in the palm of His hand and He hears the pleas of His people! My NICU baby will be turning 3 next month and we rejoice in the laughter and energy he has brought to our family!

Gina said...

I just emailed you directly Kelly but just in case you don't get it...I wanted you to know that I was in the exact same situation with my middle son when he was born. I mean identical. The paralyzed him so the machines could do all the work while his lungs healed...not allowed any noises to stimulate him and he was just about to be put on ECMO. Our son had PPHN, ask your doctors about that. Ours was due to a group b infection. It was nothing short of miraculous when our son made a turn for the better and he's now a stubborn 6 year old boy. I share this with you because I've been there and I'm praying for you and your family. You don't know me, I found your blog through one of my customers. May beautiful Harper stay strong and heal quickly.

I dreamed you were kneeling down and talking to Harper, and she was about 4 or 5 years old. I just know that God is going to heal her, and her story will be a testimony to God's word and the power of prayer. All of us out here who don't even know you, feel like we do, and we are praying and praying for strength for all of you. (By the way....you look wonderful!) I'm so glad that so many people have come to comfort you. I wish I was near so that I could. Just know that I'm sending hugs your way! Harper is so beautiful. I will pray that the day comes soon where you can scoop her up and snuggle her in your arms.

I just kissed my 10-year-old daughter (my baby!) goodnight as I was reading your blog (found you via BooMama). That same sweet little girl I just kissed was born with serious issues like you describe. She had a pneumothorax (collapsed lung) and pneumonia. Thankfully she was born in a Level 4 hospital, so she could stay in the NICU there, but she spent a week there, alone. It was scary and sad.

But she was BIG--not even as big as your daughter--and strong and had the prayers of so many behind her. Just like your daughter.

Hold on. In a week things could look much different. Please use this time to get yourself rested and stronger. Especially after the doctors tell you she's going to be fine. And they will.

Trusting God for you.

They are 5 now and healthy girls as can be. Good luck and I know you will keep us updated.

I just wanted to let you know that our family is lifting up Harper and your entire family in prayer.

On Friday while you were in labor I read the story about how long you tried and how Harper was conceived and a part of me thought I was reading my own story, of how I finally got pregnant with Princess. God has blessed you with the wonderful miracle of this daughter and be reassured that, yes, He does know what He is doing.
May God continue to bless you and help those treating Harper to bring her to good health and your arms.

Kelly,
I am adding sweet Harper to my prayer list. I am a friend of Faith Kuykendall's. We became friends because both of our sons were born around the same time and both had difficulties at birth. Your story really struck me because my husband and I were like you and Scott. We went to the hospital expecting a compeletly healthy baby and when he was a day old he was being life-flighted to the NICU at Baptist hospital in Little Rock. His story is long, but I will tell you that the doctors expected very little out of him, and because of so many praying, he is a healthy 2 year old and if you didn't know his story, you would never suspect that anything had ever been wrong. There are a million verses that I clung to when he was sick, but I just want to share a few with you.
Isaiah 43:1-3
Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior."

I later found this verse:
Romans 9:20-21
"But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, 'Why did you make me like this?' Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use?"

Harper is made for a very noble purpose, and it is already so evident what that is. She is bringing so many people to the Father and bringing so many people to their knees before him.

I praise God for the improvements that she has already made! I am praying that she continues to get stronger and that you will get to hold that sweet baby girl very soon. I am praying for strength for you and Scott. I will add Harper to my prayer list on my blog. God bless, Kelly Julian

Not only is she as gorgeous as her mother but she is as strong. Hun, you are an inspiration to women everywhere tonight. Just thinking about you and reading the outpouring from people all over the world has brought me to tears. Its simply beautiful in itself. God is holding Harper in his loving arms for you tonight until her Mommy can. I personally cannot wait until I meet the most lovely little girl I have ever seen.

Hi Kelly,
I just put my sick little 4 year old to bed (middle ear infection) w/daddy sleeping next to him. We prayed together for "baby Harper." I found your blog through Angie Seaman from Angelica Grace Designs (her blog requested prayer for you)

I just want you to know it was November 24, 2004 when they wheeled me over from my hospital bed in a neighboring hospital to tell me that my newborn son (who I waited 11 years to conceive) might not make it through the night. I know how your life has probably flashed before your eyes and the panic and fear that you will never survive if you lose your child.

My prayer is that God will give you the same peace he blessed me with.....I stook in the ICU watching my child. They had sent the chaperone to pray with us...friends came to stand with us and pray (one of our friends passed out) and I just felt what I have heard a million times.....like a flooding of peace and while I was still fearful---I had this confidence that he would be okay.
We have had our bumps in the road and 2009 holds some medical treatments and things for us, but OH HE'S AWESOME and he's 1000% our miracle angel.

We will continue to pray and look for updates!

God Bless you and your family,
Melissa

P.S. No apologies on how you look because.....You look GORGEOUS. I had had a C-section that dehisced (came open.....ugggggh) and looked like a rat that had been dipped in grease when I was out and about!

Please know that there are prayers coming your way all the way from Wyoming!

I found your blog through My Charming Kids and have been following it for a few days. My cousin had a daughter 10 years ago with the same things going on as Harper - she's 10 now and thriving! She spent a few days in a NICU - about a month and like Harper was many days overdue. Harper is going to prevail. Here's to many years of joy for you and your family.

Many, many prayers from Wyoming,
