Singles Day - A New Way

Seven years ago - I had the crazy idea to host a blog link up for Singles.  People could blog about themselves or a friend or family member who were single and then you could look at profiles and comment if you were interested.  Sounds crazy, right? Sounds like it would never work? Who would find someone on a mom blog?

Well  - over the last 7 years - ELEVEN couples have met and married.  I did a post two years ago that obviously needs updating (I will work on that).  http://www.kellyskornerblog.com/2015/10/show-us-your-singles-where-are-they-now.html  But you can read about these couples there.

ELEVEN

E   L   E   V   E   N

Well - times have changed and so few people are blogging these days.  So I wanted to host it again but I wanted to try something new.  I really thought about trying an Instagram hashtag and we even tried it a little last time.  But the thing is - most people are private on IG so the hashtag won't work.  And if we are all being honest - it would be a little hard to do a post on your public IG putting yourself out there.  Right?????

So I had a few people suggest trying a private Facebook group and that's what we are going to do.  If you are single or have friends or family who are single (especially GUYS) - point them to this Facebook group.  It will be private and you can leave email addresses for contact (or use direct messaging).  Who knows? Might work and might not but we won't know unless we try.

So share this with anyone you know who might be interested.  And if they roll their eyes or laugh - just remind them that this has better odds than the Bachelor.  Not that most people would want to be on the Bachelor.  But I'm just saying.  This can work and has.

Maybe someone you know will be couple number TWELVE!!!

Friday Fellowship - Jenna Buettemeyer

It's been a few weeks since I did a Friday Fellowship but I still have several to come.  I've been trying to talk Scott into doing one but I don't know if I can make that happen. ha!

Today's guest is my friend Jenna.  If you have read my blog for a while you will remember my friend Janet who died of Ovarian cancer and her daughter Jordan who has baby Lucy who has a heart issue. Jenna is married to Janet's son Bryan.  She is the mom of 3 boys and went on a big weight loss journey last year before getting pregnant with her 3rd son last year.  She inspires me and I thought she would be fun to share.

1.  What is your favorite Food?

I love all things Mexican food. Chips, Guac and Fajitas could sustain me for life. With a big ol’ diet coke. I also love a good freshly baked Chocolate Chip Cookie, thats probably my favorite food on Earth.

2.  What is your very favorite piece of clothing right now? (FASHION)

I’m in that awkward postpartum period right now where nothing normal fits and my maternity clothes are too big. I’m also nursing my baby, which makes getting dressed for nursing in public very interesting. I am loving long tunics with leggings for this interim period, and hoping my clothes start to fit before summer because it will be too hot in Arkansas for my yoga pants every day! ha!

3.  Tell us about your Family?

I dated my now husband, Bryan, when I was 15 for the first time. We met in youth group. We “broke up” shortly after and remained friends for years before the Lord brought us back together in college. I always laugh because I was such a heartbroken teenager when we broke up, but the Lord really protected me, both of us, by giving us those years to grow individually. We’ve now been married almost 9 years. We have three boys- Hudson, who is 6.5, Rhett is 4 and our new precious rainbow baby, Sawyer Anthony, who is almost 3 months old!

We are also very lucky that so much of our family lives close by! My parents and brother are just 20 minutes away and in-laws live about an hour away. Many of you might also know my sister-in-law, Jordan Street, who Kelly has featured before. My niece Lucy was born in October with a heart condition and has spent much of her little life at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

4.  What is the most important quality in your Friends? OR tell us something that a Friend has done for you that you can't forget.

This is a tough one because there are SO many qualities I think are important. I struggled for years after I became a new mom to find friends who “understood” me and that once you become a mom life isn’t about you anymore. You can't just drop everything to hang out at the drop of a hat and stay out until 2 AM anymore. I am blessed with an amazing group of close friends now that I found through a church group and I’d say the most important thing to me is that we can be real with each other. Sometimes life/being a mom/wife or whatever is hard and we share the hard stuff, cry together, support each other and pray over each other. I had a miscarriage in March of this year and one of my best friends took me to every blood work appointment at my doctor 30 minutes away in the horrible two week time span that everything was happening. She didn’t have to, I didn’t “NEED” her to take me, but she did, just to be with me and support me. And then after my emergency c-section with Sawyer, our boys were really struggling with us being in the hospital for a week so she left her four kids at home with her husband and came to stay the night with me in the hospital so Bryan could go home and spend some time with the big boys. That’s what true friendship is about, being there and supporting your friends when they need you.

5.  What's something you have learned recently in your Faith journey?  And/or share your favorite scripture right now and why or your favorite Bible Study or book you have read recently.

This is another hard one. Many of you have been reading Kelly’s blog long enough to remember my mother-in-law, Janet Pate’s battle with Ovarian Cancer a little over three years ago. I lost three people close to me three years in a row after going 27 years and never going through a hard loss. My faith was rocked, and still some days I struggle with it, and have some severe anxiety and struggle with trusting in God’s plan for my family. My sister in law, Jordan, is now facing this with Lucy, and we’ve tried to walk closely with them because it is just hard.  I guess the biggest thing that the Lord is teaching me is that He has a plan for us even when we can’t see the end result. There have been lots of hard and bad days in the last three years, and more to come I am sure, but I am learning to continue to put my faith in Him. I think one of my hardest struggles now is anxiety over control. I’ve been learning that by me WORRYING, I am telling God that I don’t trust Him and that He has what’s best for me in store. God and I have been battling over this, of course He is winning… but I have to make a conscious effort to give it over to him daily.

6.  What is your biggest Fear?

My biggest fear is not leaving an impact on the world. I’ve tried really hard, mostly failing, at being intentional since Janet died. These last few months I’ve really focused on being intentional with my boys and family and I have seen a huge change in my boys and in our family dynamic. We left our traditional church to join a church plant with friends of ours about a year and a half ago, and our mission is being intentional in our community and it’s totally changed my mindset, in the best way. When I die, whether it is tomorrow, ten years from now, or 40 years from now… I want people to say that I made a difference in their lives, so my fear is succumbing to my own selfish desires and missing out on those opportunities that the Lord presents to me.

7.  What are some of your Favorite things right now?

Coffee, my Honda Odyssey (I said I’d never drive a mini-van, then I had three kids, now it’s my favorite car ever), Audible (I just discovered how amazing it is to be able to LISTEN to books, because I don’t have a whole lot of time to read), and Walmart Grocery Pick up.

8.  What has been your biggest Failure?

The first thing that comes to mind is the (many) times that I’ve lost my patience with my boys. I remember telling my mom several years ago that I felt bad for yelling or snapping at Hudson. She told me that many nights when my brother and I were little she prayed that we wouldn’t remember parts of our days when times were rough. It must have worked because I don’t remember my mom being short with us when we were little (ha) so that gives me a little comfort. I’m human and my boys push me to my every limit somedays and some times I yell and snap at them and I hate seeing the look in their eyes when that happens. But I also know that it’s a good teaching moment to show God’s grace and mercy to them through experience, and that’s what it always comes back to, right? Mom isn’t perfect either and I have to ask for forgiveness, a lot. So very thankful for that Grace, that I definitely don’t deserve.

9.  What do you do for Fun?

Well I have a three month old, so I don’t do a lot of fun things right now. Ha!! I do like getting my nails done, coffee dates with friends and girls nights/date nights with my husband. My husband has a jeep, and when the weather is warm we love going out cruising with the top off. We also love hanging out with our family- lots of time out at my parent’s lake house in the summer. I also really love to shop.

10.  Tell me about what animals you have? (Furry things)

We have two labs! Sadie, our yellow lab, is 7, and Molly, our black lab, is 5. They’re amazing with our kids and really good vacuums too. Rhett says Sadie is his best friend. We also recently acquired a beta fish who the boys named, Ralph.

11.  What is your favorite FILM? (movie)

My all time favorite movie is How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. I love a good chick flick. I also really enjoy comedies. I know it’s not a movie, but my husband and I have watched the whole series of The Office probably 10 times- it’s our favorite.

10.  What is one Fact we might not know about you?

I have my bachelor’s degree in nursing and worked as a nurse for 6 years before staying home full time with my boys three years ago. I now own my own fitness business, which is so crazy to say out loud. I started my fitness and weight loss journey in January of 2014 and lost about 45 lbs total before getting pregnant with Sawyer. I was doing numerous programs like 21 day fix, PiYo and T25, I also ran three half marathons in the last year and a half… and this business just kind of fell in my lap in the summer of 2014. I help others reach their fitness goals all online through fitness groups and help people get in the best shape of their lives in the comfort of their own homes. It is a lot of work, but it’s work that I love and that I can do while homeschooling/doing laundry/playing with my kids on my own schedule because I am my own boss and have completely replaced my full time nursing income! I’ve also gotten to travel and meet so many amazing and encouraging people in the last year because of this opportunity!

Since having Sawyer I’ve completely started over on my fitness and weight loss journey. I gained all of my weight back during pregnancy and have already lost close to 10 lbs of it with 21 day fix. I’m not at all discouraged about where I am because I have done this before and I am going to do it again. It’s so much easier when you have all the tools at your finger tips and an amazing accountability group! I’m starting a Mommy Bootcamp next week, and I’d love to have you join me if this is something you might be interested in!

So that’s a little about me and my journey. Thanks so much to Kelly for sharing my story! I’d love for you to find me and connect on social media!

Remedy Road

If you know me - you know I LOVE my town.  We have the best downtown area that is becoming such a hotspot.  (I really need everyone to quit talking about how great Bentonville is because it's becoming a little TOO popular.  The hidden secrets are no longer secrets. ha!)

I wanted to tell you about a fairly new store in case you live in the area or you can shop online.

It's called Remedy Road and it's very unique in the fact that 100% of their items they sell are fair trade and/or give back in some way.  And not just overseas but also here in the U.S.

They have super cute stuff from clothing to jewelry to gifts to kid items.

Things like jewelry by the Shine Project that goes to help inner city youth.

Or socks that help the homeless in Austin, Texas.

Some of you have seen my awesome Sseko bag and have asked about it.  Remedy Road carries a ton of really cute ones! These bags and shoes help women in Uganda go to college.

Lisa is the owner.  She and her husband actually work in the medical field but she got involved with a friend who was selling one of the lines that carry in their store and she ended up going to India to see the purses and saw how selling items that give back or give good wages to people all over the world can make an impact and she knew she wanted to do something so they opened this store.  Lisa's daughter is one of Harper's best friends at school and I'm so glad I have gotten to meet her this year.  I love what they are doing and wanted to share it here with you!

If you come to Bentonville - it's right on Central!

And if you don't live nearby - you can shop online! Buy cute things and help others at the same time! Now that is a great concept!

You can also follow them on Instagram here.

Rainy Days and Mickey

Thursday I went to a fundraising luncheon for a great organization in NWA.  Saving Grace helps girls who have aged out of foster homes or group homes.  Foster care is a huge issue but it's also hard when these kids become adults and are thrown out in the world without any guidance.  Saving Grace takes girls in and they go to school and get jobs and get counseling and are assigned mentors.  They are given life skills.  It is such a needed organization.

Our weekend was miserable weather wise.  It was pouring down rain and cold all day Friday and Saturday.  The good news is it was a good weekend to slow down and catch up.  It's been so busy lately and I was so happy to be home and actually be caught up on laundry!!!! Harper had choir practice for her musical on Sunday both Friday night and Saturday morning but other than that we stayed at home.  I took the little two with me to Lowe's after we dropped Harper off at church Saturday morning.

And then to Walmart where by this time Will Holden had had ENOUGH! And so had I!

Our big excitement for the weekend was Scott and I spent over two hours cleaning our kitchen floor.  He was on his hands and knees scrubbing and I did the pre work and the drying.  It was worth it but it was hard work! At one point me and all the kids were just laying in our bed.  I love those kinds of weekends.
Sunday night was the kids choir musical at church.  This is always a big production.  It was so good!

Harper loves being in the choir! I'm excited for next year when she and Hollis will both be in it.

I wanted to send Will Holden some treats to school today and his teacher requested fruit so I made tiny little mickey fruit designs and because Will Holden LOVES cheese - I cut it out in his initials.

Riding home from school with a BIG mickey balloon and a mickey doll his good friend Remington gave him.  (We were actually in car line when I took this so I wasn't driving! :-))

When Harper was two I threw her a huge mickey themed party at the local jump place and invited about 25 kids.  Which was great.  But I learned along the way that a two year old barely knows what a birthday is and we can celebrate just as well with just our family.  Now if you throw huge pinterest worthy parties every year - that's awesome but for us - it was easier this year to just celebrate as a family!

The girls loved helping him open his presents!

We had two huge birthday cakes in march since we have two March birthdays so I decided it would be fun to have a cookie cake.  I called Walmart and just asked for some kind of Mickey cookie cake.  This wouldn't have been my pick for design but it worked.  I was just happy his name turned out.  I had to spell out his name no less than 14 times over the phone and at point she kept saying "Will and Holden?" so I had no idea what we would end up with.  It was really good thought I have to say!

When I was putting him to bed I said "Did you have a good day buddy?" He nodded his head several times and said "had a good day".  And I had a good one too.  Because of him.

Two

Will Holden - how is possible that you are TWO today????

It really seems like just yesterday you were born.  And we all fell in love with you!

And we have been on a wild ride ever since.

I can't believe that I have a white headed little boy.  I will never get over what a gift you are! You smile at me and I am just mush.  You have the best belly laugh and the cutest sense of humor.

You are BUSY.  Oh my WORD.  Even my hair hadn't turned gray when I was a lot younger - it would be completely white by now.  You don't walk - you RUN.  You are constantly climbing on things or running our doors or writing on walls.  Rest is a word that is no longer in my vocabulary.  :-)

You wear a size 2T and a size 8 shoe.  You weigh around 34 pounds.  You LOVE Milk (or "nuk" as you call it).  You love cheese and yogurt more than anything. I guess you are just a dairy man.  You also love eggs.  Other than that you are hit or miss on what you like.  You are the BEST sleeper.  You still are very consistent with naps.  You love to play outside more than anything else.  And you are OBSESSED with Mickey Mouse.  (or as you call him "dot dot" (as in the hot dog song))

You go to MDO three days a week and it's been SO good for you.  You love going and you love "Ms Sassy" (as you call your teacher).  You are the only boy in your class but you are used to being surrounded by girls.  You are almost the only boy in your church class too.  You are ALL BOY so you make up for it.  You love balls and tractors.

My favorite thing of being a mom is watching how much you and your sisters love each other.  I told Hollis I was so glad we had you because she is the BEST big sister.  She just adores you.  Her teacher showed me her kindergarten journal and EVERY page was about her "and her brother Will".  Your sisters are FIERCELY in love with you.  They mother you to death.  I often have to remind them that I'm your mom and not them.  ha! And you just ADORE them.  It's been the sweetest thing to watch and I pray you three always stay close.

You love for me to sing you songs at night.  And you also love to pray when you go to bed.  You are the sweetest snuggle bear.  And you LOVE your momma.  You love daddy but you are very attached to me.  (It's hard for me to ever leave a room if you are in it. )  I will admit I secretly love it!

You are growing too fast! I can't even talk about you without getting misty eyed because I'm so crazy about this boy of mine.  You are the best gift! Happy day Bubby!

Friday Favorites

I'm going to get back to the Friday Fellowships next week.  I have taken a little break from them but more to come!

I thought I would link up with Erika, Narci and Andrea for Friday Favorites this week for Friday Favorites.

My girls have these gold tennis shoes I got from J Crew and I LOVE them.  I'm not a fan of tennis shoes but gold ones? Yes! I'm planning to get myself a similar pair before we go to Disney in the fall.

Last night we had Tacos and Testimonies at our church.  If you want to hear some powerful testimonies - take this link and watch.  I promise you will thank me.  P.S. Grab some kleenex.

I'm still doing Hello Fresh meals and it's been a real life saver for me! And I feel like I have taken a cooking class.  I've made roasted parsnips, couscous, mashed cauliflower, and polenta.  All things I would have probably never made on my own and it's been delicious.  I'm actually so impressed with myself. ha ha ha! You would be impressed with yourself too! Take $20 off a box and try

Harper's teacher announced yesterday that she was expecting to their class.  Harper wrote her this note and Mrs. E sent me a picture. I haven't stopped laughing since.  She also wrote her husband Jake a note that said "My parents have been through this three times - what are you scared of?" She is the funniest kid.

All three kids are my favorite.  But I'm posting a picture of this one because he is just so cute and sweet.  And he sat and let me take his picture for 3 seconds.

Happy Friday friends!

Crepes, Tacos, and Pine Trees

Last Monday Scott and I got to have a date.  Our favorite sitter was in town and that was the only free night we had.  We had thought about having a nice dinner somewhere but the weather was absolutely perfect that day so instead we went downtown to a little crepe place.

And then we walked for an hour on a trail by the museum in town.  It was so great just to be able to have some time alone and be able to walk and talk.  And the dogwoods were so pretty!

Our house is SO LOUD all the time so it's nice to have a little quiet time with just us.

And then it was back to normal rockstars routines.

We took kids another night to walk the trail.  We take for granted how amazing it is to live so close to a world class museum.

Will Holden got his school spring pictures taken.  How adorable is this little boy???? He is the only boy in his class.  (thanks to Michelle Gonzalez Photography)

Will Holden and I had friends over for lunch one day last week.  We ate lunch and talked and these two boys fought over their favorite mouse.  How cute are they? They are both OBSESSED with Mickey.  I'm hoping they stay BFF.

Today we had a luncheon to end our Bible Study for the year at church.  Our women's council made soup and salad.  Since it's 80 degrees, I wanted to make a lighter soup and my absolute FAVORITE soup of all times is Taziki's lemon chicken soup.  I know this is a greek soup but it reminds me so much of the cuban lemon chicken and rice my grandmother made us all the time which was my favorite meal growing up.  (My dad's family lived in Cuba for a while when he was young).  I found the recipe and made it for today.

I love Tuesdays at Bible Study with women of all ages.  I love that I get to be with women in their 80's and women in their 20's and everything in between.

We gave away cute pots of geraniums as door prizes!

An owner from the local boutique, Kate Austin, came and shared with us on spring fashions.  She is so sweet and has the cutest store.  And my friend Maegan shared on decorating. Maegan is basically the NWA Joanna Gaines.  She is so multi talented.  It was just a fun afternoon.

If you are local - I would love for you to come join us at Tacos and Testimonies tomorrow night.  It's completely free! Free Tacos and the stories you are going to hear will be SO real and SO full of hope and encouragement.  Come and bring a friend!

One more picture because I can't get enough of this boy! ha!

Harper's class has been studying Arkansas.  They had to make dioramas that represented something of Arkansas.  Harper made the flag and the state trees - pine trees.

And that's what we have been up to.
