A Hair-y Issue

It's a gloomy pj's kind of day around here. I had planned for Harper and I to stay in our pj's today because we aren't going anywhere and I needed to catch up on housework. It's a good thing because we are having a glamourous day today - let me catch you up. First Harper spit up all over her and me. So we both got CLEAN pj's on. Then Dawson threw up not once but twice all over the carpet. FUN! Harper had been laying in her bouncy seat and I went to pick her up and she had pooped all over herself. Pajama change #2. Good Times. Can't wait to see what the afternoon holds! ha!

Speaking of glamour...................

There is an anonymous commenter who seems very concerned about my hair and has now left me a couple of messages letting me know that they don't like the fact that I tuck my hair behind one ear all the time and that it's time for me to change my hairstyle.

I thought I would just share that if you are really interested - you can check out my hair-u-mentary to see I've had several styles and colors over the years. The thing is my hair is VERY thick, coarse and naturally wavy and I can't wear it without putting it behind my ears because it's too heavy and hangs in my face, bangs just curl up, and long hair takes too long to dry. This is just the way I wear my hair - some times it's long and sometimes it's shorter. I don't like my hair in pony tails or half up because I have a chubby face - even more so now.

(But if you have nice suggestions on ways I could wear my hair - I'd love to hear them. )
My favorite hair right now is Kelly Ripa and Elisabeth Hasslebeck. (I think I have been watching too much daytime TV) ha!

I just kind of think there are more important things in the world to worry about like sick children and the economy and lost souls than how my hair looks. (Don't get me wrong - my hair is very important to me - even if it always looks the same! ha!)
(P.S. You don't have to leave me comments and tell me you think my hair looks good. I just thought I better address this before I get 10 more comments on it.) ha!

One last thing.... there is a family who lives in AL and has 3 cute little boys. One of their boys has to have heart surgery in Houston in a few months and they are trying to raise money to help with their expenses. If you live in AL and maybe could help with a yard sale they are having ....check them out. You could also please pray for little Dylon.

Your hair looks cute!! I have to wear my hair tucked behind my ear, because I am one of those people who absolutely can't stand to have hair hanging down in my eyes or face. That drives me crazy!!! Have a great PJ day, even if you are having to change them a lot today. Love & blessings from NC!

Those kinds of days are SO much fun!!! D pooped yesterday right as we were about to walk out the door to leave for church...GOOD TIMES!

I've always thought your hair looks healthy, shiny, and beautiful. (: My hair is also coarse, thick, and wavy. It gets tucked behind my ears a lot, too.

Kelly,

Sorry about the puke and poop. I would stay in jammies all day, too. LOL.

WOW that there are people out in the virtual who get all "bunched up" about someone's hair. I think they might be a little jealous of you. You just keep being beautiful you and keep the lovely posts coming our way. HUGS!

I happen to like your hair!! My hair is so limp I can't do anything with mine either, so it just hangs there..not very stylish!!

Love the new blog look!!

I always think your hair looks great! Ignore rude annonymous comments. Sorry your day involves so many changes and clean ups! Hopefully y'all can relax this afternoon.

Whatever. Your hair is adorable! I wouldn't worry about that comment at all, seriously.

Hope you have a productive jammy day :)

I think your hair looks great! I tuck my hair behind my ears everyday, because I don't like it right next to my face.

I had to laugh as I was looking at your hair-u-mentary, since I think we're about the same age, so it was like looking at MY pictures! What were we thinking??

That's crazy! I love your hair! Anonymous commenting really gets to me! You handled that much better than I would have! :)

I love your hair too.. guess someone has too much time on their hands to leave comments like that. We had a pj day here yesterday, the weather was HORRIBLE! Hope you and Harper have a wonderful rest of your day!

Umm I love your hair! Sorry about the poop/throw up :-) have a great day!

Why is someone complaining about your hair? It looks fine. In fact, Anonymous should see my hair right now, I'm quite the fright! Hence why there's rarely any photos of me on my blog.

Anyway, if that's all they have to say, then they should not post on your blog. Perhaps you should take anonymous option off your comments, then you won't have to deal with people like that anymore.

It'd be different if you were asking for advice about your hair!

anyway... don't you just love jammies? I wear mine all the time when I'm at home and not going anywhere. They are just so comfy. And these days they don't always look like jammies, so you can get away with wearing them at home on a casual day and not be embarrassed if someone comes to the door.

Jennifer W said...

Um, I usually hate visiting your site because you look SO DARN CUTE in every photograph you post and I end up feeling like a lump of air dried, not-cut-in-a-year, no style hair. And I bet you would rock the pony tail - your face is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L.

Rachel said...

WHAT!? You have adorable hair! Who ever annonymous is, I'd love to see a picture of their own hair before they start judging yours! I think you look great! And you're right on with Kelly and Elisabeth, I too think they have great hair-dos :)

rhilborn said...

Hair is SUCH a personal journey:) but, I too have coarse, thick, curly hair and the best thing I ever did was to embrace the curls! I generally find that a mid length cut works best-short is too poofy and long is too time-consuming and heavy. I have to find creative ways to take the weight out without "thinning" it. I don't know if you've ever had a stylist try that on you but I basically turn into a foof ball, strike that, a sobbing foof ball because of how awful I look! So right now I get my hair texturized, embrace my curl, scrunch it wet and let it dry on its own or diffused. I have photos if you're really interested.

On a side note, I was surprised when I went to your mom's blog to see just what a raven haired beauty you once were! I like the blonde too but it just surprised me:).

Kelly | Fabulous K said...

Why is it that comments like that are always anonymous? I think your hair always looks cute! :)

Oh Kelly...I adore your hair. You do such wonderful things on your blog and I just can't believe that is what someone actually would choose to comment about.

I'm so sorry you've had a rough day with all of the mess! I hope your afternoon goes better!

PS: I'm LOVING Elizabeth's hair too!

Lauren said...

And these are the days of a stay-at-home, mom!!! haha :o)

Seriously, Kelly, people are always going to have a comment about something. Personally, you could where a brown bag over your head and you would look adorable!!!

Heather said...

You and I have exactly the same hair/hairstyle...so I think it looks GREAT! :) I know you're not looking for people to comment about it, but you are just so pretty, Kelly, and I pray that these crazy commenters don't get you down!
I SOOOOO wish I was having a PJ day today on this rainy day! But I will work today and then be off tomorrow....hopefully in my PJ's!
I bought some final "necessities" for Avery Kate today...we are getting SO CLOSE! Thanks for praying for me and I am praying for you and sweet Harper girl!

I am LOL about the hair thing. How silly that someone is so obsessed with your hair!

Your hair always looks cute to me. Of course, I guess I can't talk because I've had the same style for years now.

Bummer about all of the poop and puke you are dealing with today.

Wow!!...I never noticed the hair behind your ear so there! :) I also love Kelly Ripa's hair too! I just got my haircut with her hairstyle in mind. :)
My precious little man (3 months) and I had the same kind of day the other day. We had a nice bath early in the morning...he was hanging out in his bouncy seat while I was getting ready...and i walk by to see he has had an explosion in the diaper that has leaked out and spreading with his little bouncing foot! So we had to have another bath, a new outfit, etc. :)hee hee And of course when we are (FINALLY)ready to go somewhere he spits up ungodly amounts on my blouse!

Twin and I have VERY thick hair too. We are trying to grow our hair out and decided we could do so if we keep it layered. If it's not layered it seems to tend to flatten because it is very thick and heavy. We are going in on friday to get our new style. Our hair takes forever to dry too. I blow dry mine and it takes twice as long as the average person. I personally see nothing wrong with your hair and when you have a little one you really need something that is quick and easy. You could go with Kelly or Elisabeth. Yours looks so much like theirs already. Just need to shorten a few spears of your bangs.
If our hair comes out cute friday I will email you some pictures. I have a picture I am hoping my hair turns out like!

Oh seriously, some people need to get a life. Your hair is cute the way it is. You look like a young, cute, mommy!
I have been following your blog for awhile but have never commented. Oh, I can relate to spit up. I have a 3 yr old son and a 1 yr old daughter. I can remember being 9 hours away from my home. My son and I were visiting my husband/his daddy in great lakes, IL where he was in school for the navy. My son got the rota virus and we were in 7 eleven and I was getting a donut and a coffee for the trip. My son spit up all over me and that was my last clean outfit. He did is a few more times on the way home. No fun!!
Your daughter is so adorable and just plain beautiful. Enjoy your PJ day, those are fun times.

Don't change your hair b/c some blog reader tells you to! Do it b/c you want to. Who are these people who have time to sit around and notice things like that anyway? I love your adorable hair and mine too is thick and coarse so I'm right there with ya. Mine does however stay in a ponytail most of the time. Maybe I'm the one that needs a new do. You are right on with having more things to worry about than some hair tucked behind someone's ear! Have a great day!!!

Jennifer said...

I like you hair now, I also liked the pics when it was just a bit shorter. I had super thick hair until a few years ago when the PCOS caused it to fall out!
I too had the BIG hair in high school and college. That was so crazy!
Sorry about your bad day. Nothing worse the cleaning up pet puke and baby poo! At least that doesn't happen every time :)

I think your hair always looks so adorable. I just don't get why someone would comment like that. I'm so sorry! I often push my hair back behind my ear for the same reason.

Sorry about all the spit-up, throw-up and poop in your life today. I feel for ya cuz I've been there!!!

Love your blog! My mother and I both have hair like your's (coarse, THICK and wavy). Hairstyles come and go but being a mom who is THERE for her baby is something you will never regret. So I think you are focusing your energy in the right place! Plus, I think your hair looks fabulous!

Anonymous said...

I actually like your hair and was asking my husband if he liked it so that I could cut mine that way. I also like that picture of Elizabeth Hasslebeck's!!

Anonymous said...

I am jealous of your pajama day! Even if it includes a little poop and throw-up! :)

Now, for the hair - I love yours! I just read your hair post, that was hilarious! Love all of your different styles. I've had lots too, in fact I just had 6 inches cut-off and I already regret it, ugh! Anyways, I love Elisabeth Hasselbeck's hair but hers is very thin. Kelly Ripa's looks thicker and I love hers as well. I think yours is great, I see no reason to change it! :)

michelle said...

You HAVE to be joking! I know it is a little obnoxious, but I just had to laugh when I read that. Hair behind the ear. Wow.

Happy PJ day! Maybe the accidents will slow down a bit!

Melanie said...

My best record poop/puke day was when I had a small baby who had a minimum of four blow-out diapers the same day that his older brother had diarrhea and vomitting several times a piece. Changing the diapers was very interesting and involved a plastic bag and a roll of paper towels to accomplish. I had to do a few loads of "special laundry" for that day.
Oh, and I firmly believe that if someone posts comments anonymously, then their comments don't really matter. If you don't have the gonads to fess up to a name, then you don't get an opinion.
Plus, you are beautiful inside and out, and it's amazing that in the midst of that, some people will still find something to complain about.

Emily said...

We're doing the same thing over here in Bartlesville! What happened to Spring weather?

And my five month old has puked on himself about 3 times this morning!

King J's Queen said...

Good Afternoon! I think your hair looks just perfect on you, and if you like it, it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks...especially not someone who hides behind "Anonymous".

But, since you brought up hair, I did get a bit of a chuckle from your post. See, I used to wear my hair down, too. I have a truly round face. So round, in fact, that if I were to use yellow foundation, I could go to work for Wal-Mart as the bouncing smiley face. Majorly round! So, anyway, I always wore my hair long-ish, usually in a bob of sorts. Okay, similar to yours in style but my hair is fine and limp, not like yours at all. I wore it that way until my daughter discovered my hair when she was 4 or 5 months old. It's like a rope connected directly to Mommy's face. What better way is there to climb up to see Mommy? I abruptly began wearing my hair in either a pony-tail or a french twist. She's 7 now, and well past the hair-pulling stage, but the habit is so stuck, I feel odd with it down. That was the image that came to mind when I read your post.

I hope your afternoon goes a little less messy than your morning!

Have a blessed day! (without anymore poop and puke lol)

Girlfriend, we are in the same boat with the thick wavy hair. I would wear mine without bangs just like yours, but I cannot wear contacts(just the thought of putting something on my eye-shivers) so with my glasses I can't seem to get enough of it behind my ears. And, I feel like a kid when I wear it half up in a barrett. (I have a chubby face too) So I know how you feel!

Debbie K. said...

Kelly,
I love your hair. Some people do not have anything else to do, but make ugly comments. My hair is thick like yours and it looks better tucked behind my ears. You are a beautiful young woman and Mommy!

On the subject of spit up and accidents, well some days are just like this. Just be thankful Harper saved it until today instead of yesterday. I don't have babies, but have two cats who have unexpected problems like Dawson. And their timing is usually not good.

Hope your day goes better. A nice, long nap sounds like a good thing to do!

That's random and crazy to me that someone would post those comments, but maybe this person is jealous of your "blog fame" and couldn't stand for you to have one more positive comment. :) Seriously though, could be. Not that it makes the person bad or anything. Just stinks for you to have to read the negative comments.

I like your hair and think it's one of your cutest styles coming from your "hair-u-mentary". That was hilarious and I want to do one now. I LOVED your hair in the third pic from bottom. Short and curly. That was really cute also!

I am very finicky about my hair, hair color, hair dresser, etc. I receive some flack from time to time from others who are not so picky :) But, I agree that hopefully the commenter will focus his or her attention on other concerns that are more important than hair! :) Love your blog and love to see your sweet baby growing and thriving! My last blog post was about the unspeakable things pregnancy has done to my already troubled, enormous head of hair. I think yours looks great.

My hair was even bigger than yours in high school. True.

I changed Helena's clothes five times yesterday. I tried to figure out what in the world I could have eaten to make her such a fount. I think it might be ice cream and this makes me very, very sad.

My daughter Harper likes looking at pictures of your daughter Harper. Although my daughter Harper has, for the last few months, preferred to be referred to as 'Lightning'. She refers to Harper as her "old name".

I can't understand why people start leaving nosy or rude comments on blogs. Obviously, most of the comments like that would never be said to someone's face, but I guess people start feeling too free to overstep the line of politeness when it is the virtual world. I know Angie on Bring the Rain had to address many snippy comments and eventually changed her blog settings so that you can't leave an anonymous comment. Don't take it personally; people often criticize that which they are jealous of. Since you have a great faith, lots of friends, financial stability, and a beautiful home and daughter, someone got jealous and went for a hair issue. Why do women have to be like this?

I love your hair! And for the record, I ALWAYS tuck mine behind my ears, not because it's long, thick or wavy, but because it's thin and I can't stand it hanging in my face.

Jonnie Honse said...

I looked back at your hairstyles, which by the way cracked me up. And I have to say I like your hair blonde! I also have super think wavy hair, I'm growing it out for my friends wedding but after that I'm chopping it off.

Jenn Slayton said...

I love your hair. I think some of the posters are right...jealous! I have thick, wavy hair too, but I look like a helmet head if mine's too short. So I have to wear mine longer. But tucking behind my ear is the way to go to keep it out of my eyes! Especially with the side-swept bangs.

Anyways, hope your PJ day is wonderful and LOVED all of Harper's cute Easter clothes. What a doll.

You do not have a chubby face.. but I know what you mean. My hair has been the same since 7th grade... it's naturally curly and that's that. Nothing I can do about it. I can go straight for the shock factor.. then my husband has a different wife for a day! :)

I hear you on the hair though, I have very think course hair it gets wavey too.

I LOVE your hairstyle and wouldnt change a thing.... actuallly I am trying to grow my hair like yours!!

The natural colored hair looked good on you. It looked good curly as well.

I loved the second picture from the bottom as well(one of the more recent ones). That bang style suited you.

Hi Kelly-
I've been reading for awhile but haven't ever commented. So I'll comment on a few things here. First, I love your hair. I've always thought it was really cute and I'm envious of your bangs. My haircut is pretty similar to yours, but it's too fine to do the cute sideswept bangs like yours. I can't believe someone commented on that. And I can't believe you were so gracious about it! (I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have been.)

Second, I LOVE David Crowder and have many favorite songs, but one of my most favorite is "Come and Listen," and was excited when you posted it last week. We had it as the opening song and seating of the parents/grandparents in our wedding. Another fave is "Stars" from the Illuminate album.

Harper is precious and the way you have her all dolled up is exactly what I can't wait to do when we have kids! Hopefully I'll have at least one girl, because if not, my boys may be wearing big blue bows on their heads. :)

I'm making the Swiss Stuffing Chicken for dinner tonight and I'm excited about it! Thanks for the recipe!

I wasn't going to leave a comment, because you already had so many. But I just have to because I find this very funny. Every time I look at your picture I envy your hair - the color, the texture, the style. I wouldn't change a thing!!

I think your hair is cute the way it is....maybe that's bc I wear mine somewhat the same (yours is cuter though). Funny what people will comment on.

Have a fun jammy day

I have to admit -- I'm laughing my tail off at work today. Your post, from beginning to end (and then the hair-umentary) has me just in stitches.

First -- is it not simply amazing that one so small can so completely drench an outfit -- of YOURS, not hers. My oldest had no "stop" when it came to nursing. I knew she was finished most days when she had completely covered me in milk. Shirt, shoes -- down to undergarments -- all needed to be changed. And she'd just grin at me!

Second -- with every single picture I've seen of you, my thought has been, "Man, I wish my hair always looked so perfect." My hairs not nearly so thick, and the style you wear is what I'd LIKE to wear, but my bangs didn't/don't cooperate.

And Third -- the hair-umentary. I'm with you all the way -- hair, outfits, braces. LOL! The only thing I didn't do was the big bows. And your "coolest shirt you've ever worn" -- I think I'm wearing one nearly identical in my senior picture. And I felt the same way about it. The 70's and 80's -- fashion highlights!

Why is it that people think because they read your blog, they know exactly what you should do all the time?! I've had comments about my hair too once before, someone told me I needed an updated style. I said...well, girl I thought I did have an updated style. You just can't please some people. PLUS, they have no idea what type hair we might have. Mine is VERY thick, very coarse, & naturally curly, so there are only certain things it will do. Right now I have to do major hair products along with the flat iron to get it looking decent. I'd kill for some fluffy silky hair that I could just pull back in a ponytail, but that's not what the good Lord gave me.

Hair, it can make or break us! ha-ha. :) Your hair is adorable, don't fret over those Anon comments.

Hi, ok I can't help but write and say that I love seeing Harper with her silky blankie. My son is 2 1/2 and loves his "dankie" and it is just like that (but blue or white of course). I showed him the picture of her and I said "Look Camden, what is that?" and he said " a dankie, I want my dankie too." That may be a life saver in the coming months and years. He has always been a pretty fussy, high maintenance, mama's boy and never would take a paci either so I am so glad he loves a blanket. She is adorable!!!

Love the new look to your blog!! Awesome job with it!!

Forget the silly comments on your hair girl. You look GREAT!!! I have LONG hair and it is either tucked behind my ears or in a ponytail. One or the other...ALWAYS!!!!!!!

If you get a chance you can check out my blog and find a pic somewhere on it of me to see.

Oh yes...we're enjoying a PJ day here too!!!

I am a hair tucker, too! Can't stand it in my face, but it does look better on me when it's not behind my ears. Oh, well, like you said, there is so much more important stuff to worry about!

You're hair documentary cracked me up!!!!! I graduated in 1993, so I totally had the same hairdos! Although you were definitely in style in those pictures, I laughed so hard, mostly because I look just as, um, silly, in my old pictures. Don't take that the wrong way, but what were we thinking! I think I had that very same striped shirt you wore to your sorority party. Oh, man, I thought I looked so cool! Speaking of old clothes, I just so happen to be wearing an old sorority letter t-shirt today. In its day, it looked "awesome," but now it's definitely an "around the house" shirt. Ha.

OMGosh! I look at your hair and love it and FOR REAL...I am always trying to tuck it to the side so that it looks like yours!!!!! I am not just saying it...but come on...I cant believe that is a comment topic!!!

Seriously, virtual hair police?!

So I looked at your hair-umentary and I am so with you- we're the same age. Monogrammed sweaters around the 4th grade? How about banana clips? Aqua net- I had the purple can as it worked like airplane glue and kept my Peanuts 'do' in place during jr. high. And then I switched between Rave and White Rain. Scrunchies in college. I'm vacillating between a "Mercy." and "Mercy!!!!!"

With all truthfulness, I JUST commented to my sisters on how cute your hair always is. Before this post! the colour is goregous, and the style is great. I personally do not think you need a change at all. Its up to you, not blog world. ;)

Harper looks beautiful as usual.

I will definitely pray for that family. (And the person so concerned about your hair! Lol!)

On the hair subject, I forgot my flat iron on vacation last month so we stopped in Wal-Mart. I just couldn't buy a cheap one (my hair is very wavy) so I bought a 3-barrel curling iron and I LOVE it! It's such a different look than my normal curly waves or straight hair. My hair is about the same length as yours and also super thick, so maybe that's another option for you...that is if you're really looking for an option. I think your hair always looks gorgeous! And who doesn't poke their hair behind their ear? I'd like to meet them and learn how they have so much self-control! Ha!

I loved the Easter pics yesterday!!!

Your day sounds similar to one of mine last week! My little guy - born February 24 - managed to spray the front of my robe when I attempted to change his diaper when we woke up. One outfit change later, I had spit-up down the front AND back of my shirt. How can something so little be so messy?! :) BTW... your hair looks great. With a little one to care for, you're doing good when you can actually wash your hair, much less fix it!

Believe me...after being bald for almost a year (from my chemo)...hair isn't what makes someone :) No matter how you wear your hair...YOU are beautiful!!! Praying for an easier day for you tomorrow. :) You are doing a great job being a Mom. Blessings from AZ

Kelly -
Started coming to your blog when Harper was in the hospital. Someone put your blog address out on our church e-group and ask for prayers. I was hooked!! Love love love Harper's cute headbands, etc. My little girl is 16 yrs old about to turn 17 and everyone use to comment on her big hair bows. I just loved them! Cherish this time~it just goes by too fast. Although, this age is fun too with proms, etc.
As for your hair, I think it is so cute. Don't change a thing. Back in October, I was watching Regis & Kelly with my sister and we saw a stylist on there who said that you should wear your hair behind your ears because it makes you look younger. My sister and I both immediately put our hair behind our ears (we are both in our 40's) haha!!
Have a great and safe spring day!!

Jennifer C said...

I know you said not to comment about liking your hair, but last week I seriously tried to figure out a way to tell my hairstylist about your hair, and to cut mine that way....he always gets it too short to go behind my ears, and that's the way I like my hair.
I want my haircut like yours....
I hate it that you got negative comments, and I really enjoy reading your blog!

Sounds like you had a wonderful day! I love your hair and can't believe someone would send you that comment. They just don't understand the power of thick hair, I have the same issues and am forever tucking my hair behind my ear!

Omg, i loved your hair u mentary! Oh, and your natural color is lovely! It must be difficult to dye such dark hair blonde! I would love to see you go back to your natural dark color. It really looks great on you! Honestly, I didn't want to say anything but I always thought you had a wig! Its always styled so perfectly and never seems out of place ever! And, always in same exact sytle! But, as for a new hairstyle, I think Elizabeth Hasselbeck's style would look fantastic on you! You could also try clipping your hair maybe on the other side for a change up from always tucking same side in. But, don't listen to anoynmous commenters!

I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I am so, so sorry...but this one has to come out and even as I sit on my hands--I still find some way to type this:

Hey Cyber-Blogger-Hair Tuck Commenter--"Mind your own bees wax."

Okay, I said it. Shew.

Kelly, you don't know me. I know you. That is weird, I know. But you get the "follow one blog, prayer request, pop over to another blog, pray and follow" routine. I usually comment on Angie's or MckMama's, but if I start writing on everyone's.....well, shucks, I'll never get around to putting mine together. With 6 kids and a busy house--my husband is lovingly not for me starting up a blog and running it in my rotation of life events.

Ah, nonetheless, I've been reading and praying for you since Harper was just a fat little biscuit in the NICU. (Ahem, been there and done that. It was tough. And, I swelled up like a huge marsh-mellow. All the standing around, worrying over a baby that I just wanted desperately to hold. She is out and 4 years later--doing GREAT!)

Anyway, I digress......

Just HAD to finally comment when I saw you defending yourself against some shallow dingy who has nothing better to do than be a hair critic. As if we don't have enough of those roaming around. Not a hater at all, in fact, I am desperately in love with our Lord....and I get the whole Agape thing. very much so. But, the new liberated woman in me has to say, that your fancy new hair critic probably has crappy locks--and feels better judging you.

Yes, Angie Smith, if you are reading this, I used the word crappy in a different kind of sentence. Not one that pertains to the cucumber melon cleaner from Target. Which, I ALWAYS buy now....and have even given away as Christmas gifts....in the shallow, silent hope it would somehow get re-gifted to me. :) Life is grand....

Kelly, Harper is totally cute. Don't give your hair critic a voice. (Whispering this: she is maybe just a little jealous.)

Humbly with total love in Christ,
Becky

Honestly- people need more to do to occupy their time, apparently. Girl- tuck away- why not even tuck both sides just for fun? LOL! I can totally feel your pain with the thick naturally curly hair. My hair is usually tucked behind my ear by the end of the day too- despite any good intentions that I may have at the beginning of the day! :) I am entirely too busy to worry about whether or not someone else tucks their hair behind their ears too much...that is so funny! Anyway- I'm sure there was another point I was supposed to make here but totally got caught up in the hair thing. Have a blessed day!

I vividly remember the day I saw myself as a "real mom"...Amelia was about 8 days old, and I was sitting in the backseat of our car in the parking lot at Joann's trying to nurse her...when I got done, I was leaking milk all over my shirt, she spit up on me, and her diaper was leaking and I had baby pee and poo all over my pants. Ahhh, it was a rich moment! Haha! And that BF poo is something else, isn't it? Seriously! I'm sure you have already learned to keep an extra outfit in the diaper bag! :o)

And I know you told us not to tell you how cute your hair is...but I just can't...Kelly, it's cute. You look like you have great hair, and I don't think you need to change it AT ALL! I have the frizziest, biggest, coarsest, thick hair EVER. It takes a lot of product, the right cut, and a lot of heat action to maintain that type of hair...so I know what you're working with! I can't help but be tickled that the fact that you "tuck your hair behind one ear" is what someone noticed on your blog!!

I started reading blogs of parents going through the NICU experience when my daughter and son-in-law were airlifted from Canada to Tacoma WA last April to deliver our identical twin grand-daughters at 25 wks. It was a real comfort through the four month ordeal which encompassed the loss of our darling Serenity at 9 days of age (May 3 - May 12, 2008). Her sister Willow is doing really well and we're so thankful...but we miss Serenity.. every day.

I'm definitely HOOKED on reading the blogs now and really enjoy yours! (and your HAIR!)

It sounds like we have the same hair problem. Mine is so thick that it pulls any style out of it. I go from a shorter bob to a little longer bob, to a little shorter bob--- but I have to have a ponytail in the summer. Hi, I've been reading your blog for a couple weeks and just have to say, like I'm sure many others will as well, it is obvious from your blog what a huge heart you have and how much you care about people. How awful that someone would take the time to insult /question your hair. And, in all honesty, when I saw your new blog layout yesterday with the new photo up top, I actually thought "ooh, that is how I want to cut my hair." I'm sure you'll have too many comments to even read them all, :) but I just wanted to say please don't listen to that mean person. Your hair is adorable, and you're right, there are way more impt. things- and that is what you always focus on anyway in your posts. So sad this anonymous poster can't see the bigger picture- and can't say something nice!
Anyway, happy Easter. You have a gorgeous family and I am so happy your infertility and Harper's illness at birth have gone away!

Your hair is just lovely and I love how you tuck it behind one ear and if it works and you look fabulous why change? We have very similar hair, but you DO NOT have a chubby, take a look at mine, oh my word it's huge!! My husband once referred to me as horse face and never has since cause it hurt my feelings. I forgave him, it was in a joking sense too.
I love PJ day, sometimes too much and I go to pick my son up from school in PJ's alot too! Keep us updated about the family whose little boy has to have heart surgery in Houston, that's where I am. Praying for them!

I can't say I ever noticed you always have it tucked behind an ear. I do the exact same thing though. Try as I might to break the habit, it doesn't happen. I have fine hair... but lots of it... so it is always in my face, or worse... full of static.
I can't believe someone who doesn't even know you feels they should tell you how to fix your hair! *I* still see you as a brunette! I don't think that will ever change!
and oh my goodness, would you believe the 'word verification' I have to type now is "hairrini"
no joke.

Honestly, who is so bored with their own life that they criticize someone's hair? Sometimes I just don't understand people! ha!

I read your blog nearly everyday! You are such a beautiful person inside and out. I'm so sorry that someone has been giving you such a hard time about your hard.

Hope your day went better, but thanks for sharing! I laughed out loud about your day's happenings. :)

Kelly you're precious, and as for your day..welcome to motherhood...this is why God made our babies so stinkin' cute, so we wouldn't mind changing them for the 30th time:)Hope the rest of your week goes better!

We LOVE, LOVE, your hair! We are so happy that you share your love for God, your husband and Sweet Harper with us.

I think those two styles that you show are pretty much what you already have. I say, if it isn't broke don't fix it!! I have had the same style for a really long time, I have hair like yours and only certain things make it look decent so that is what I stick with. :)

I can't believe that someone would say something about your hair. It always looks fine.

I LOVE Kelly Ripa. I bet she is cute when she climbs out of bed! If I had the chance to meet two people in the whole world it would be her and Beth Moore (okay three but Me and Jesus will meet when He takes me Home! Ha!)

Forgot to comment about the whole spit-up/poop episodes. Nothing better than the poop surprise when you pick the baby up. Oh and yesterday, both of my kids lived in bibs for like the first year of their lives. HUGE droolers. My second had to have hers changed like three times a day!

her momma must have never told her if she didn't have anything nice to say, not to say anything at all. there are so many other blogs out there, if she doesn't like looking at your hair, she doesn't have to:)

Oh I have the same problem! I have never noticed you tucking your hair but I do it to mine because I have the same type of hair! Very thick, full, coarse, and not straight, but not curly! I always try to leave it out but it never happens!

Even though you said not to, I don't see any problem with your hair! Your a great momma with great hair! :)

I just realized I tuck my hair behind both ears because my hair is thick and heavy too. I know you don't want to hear this, but I think your hair looks great! Great color, great style and super great person! I think your hair looks much better than Elizabeth's or Kelly's. Don't let bad people get you down!

Please, please, PLEASE tell me people have better things to do with their lives than worry about a stranger's hair style! Really.

Hi there! I am one of your blog staulkers in California!! I've been following you everyday since Harper was born, I think I came to you either from Bring the Rain or Mckmama, can't remember...anyway, I love your faith and your honesty, and I adore your daughter and all her cute outfits!!
I am in Nursing school and plan on working in Labor and Delivery or in the NICU, and I'm a Christian so I was very interested in Harper's story...To make a long story short, I'm actually writing to you to say I cannot even believe that some "wench" would even be so rude as to comment on your hair, for cryin' out loud!! I think your hair is adorable and besides, in the grand scheme of things, how important is that anyway?? I seriously don't think God has an issue with our hair! ha ha! I guess just got a little protective of you, kinda like a big sister...I'm 44 and have two teenagers, a boy and a girl, and I so remember those baby days:) You just keep doing what your doing, being a good mama and a wonderful witness!! Love in Him, your cyber sista!! Pamela

Girl, I read the link, and you are so lucky because you look good as a blonde and a brunette! Don't worry about the comment. (Unless it was Scott who left it!) Haha! Have a great night!

They are jealous of you. Plain and simple. You're gorgeous...I wouldn't change a thang!

Oh dear. I remember those days when all it seemed like we did was clean up messes and change clothes. Hopefully it got better. Too funny that someone thought to comment on your hair. I never notice things like that.

I guess you have officially reached the celebrity status of an anchor woman. Don't they say that their hair is what gets more attention than their news reporting? Ha! You already know I adore your hair. It always looks fantastic. I guess I'm a little jealous because I'm a thick, coarse, wavy girl, too, and I can NOT get mine as smooth as yours EVER. It is my goal though!

I'll never forget when EG threw up on me at the doctor's office and I had no other clothes for myself, so it was not pretty when the doctor finally came in. YUCK!

seriously? someone takes the time to critique your hair? wow. i'm with you... i'm all about quick and easy. my hair is ALWAYS in a "tree sprout" on the top of my head. like you said, there are way better ways to spend our time than fixing our hair. like blogging...

Kelly, you are precious!
I know you weren't looking for compliments, but I wanted you to have some anyway. I love your hair and your wonderful attitude.
Keep being just who you are.
Enjoy every minute with sweet Harper because what they say is true, "The days pass by too slowly and the years fly by too quickly."

(p.s. PJ days are my favorite!)

You know I think when people visit your blog regularly they feel like they really know you and can tell you whatever they want. If this person saw you in real life she would probably keep her thoughts to herself but whatever, your hair always looks cute. I am always saying I am going to do a Sinead O'Connor and just shave my head (if only I had the guts, it would make life easier, lol).

My daughter was CUT out of a onesie once because she blasted out of the front and back of her diaper - total nightmare. There was no way I was getting that over her head without the nastiest mess ever so out came the scissors!!

Here's to many more pj days with less eruptions from the 2 and 4 legged varieties!

I can almost "live" in your moments of Harper crying...My daughter Meri Ellis did the same thing. ONLY ME would make her happy. What I finally figured out was wrong with the grocery store was, she was cold and the loud noises bothered her..until she was almost 5 months old. The people that worked at the comissary, military grocery store, would see me and come and get her to hold while I shopped...of course she still cried but didn't scream. Oh and she didn't take a pacifier, hated it, she "found" her fingers at about 3 months and it looks like your sweet little girl is doing the same! I really enjoy your blog and I rejoiced with you that you get to stay home with her! Blessings to you and your sweet family, E

Way to stand up! I think that person or people commenting on your hair are the ones with the problem! I mean they can't even show their face (name) to tell you something! Keep your head held high b/c I think you look great and I am always amazed at how cute you look with a newborn! I have an nine week old and I'm lucky if I brush my hair!

caknitter said...

Your hair is lovely. I can only dream about having hair like yours. My hair is on the thin-side and curly and am constantly tucking it behind my ear. I think whoever left those comments must be having control issues with their own hair. Just let it roll off your back, girl.
