Girly Girl

No big news to report today - Harper has been just hanging in there

I came to check on her this afternoon and found the nurses put a bow in her hair!!!!
I was SO excited to see my girl looking so prissy. But I think it may be time to drag out the big guns soon - that little bow just isn't going to cut it!!! :-) Oh I can't wait to put those big headband and flowers and bows on her sweet head!
And my mom brought her one of her little monogrammed blankets so we could have her name in there with her!
Her purple bow matches her purple blanket - love it!
I think we are going to have to break out the Thigh master on these little chunky legs! :-)
We were so excited to have our friends the Murrays visit today. Wells didn't get to see the bow - but he thought she looked very pretty anyway! He was styling himself in a monogrammed sweater - he knows what his girl likes.
This sweet girl Erika and her little baby Ethan came to visit me and brought me a sweet gift. We went to church together for a little while and she has kept up with my blog. I was happy to see them!!! Ethan is SO cute!

We've had a few visitors that we have missed - I think of all you read my blog - I'm so sorry I missed each of you - I got your cards and I plan to thank you!!! I hate that I didn't get to see you in person!

This is Harper's sweet nurse, Carrie. She takes care of her all day and I'm so thankful. We love her and Harper's doctor. We have been praying for them both as they care for our baby. Pray for those NICU nurses and doctors when you pray for the babies also.

I was a little discouraged this afternoon because nothing much has changed but Nurse Carrie just came out to give us a little lift and told us Harper's counts were good so they were going to try to dial her oxygen back again a little and hopefully get to 95% by tonight. Please pray that they can and that they can keep her there. That's our prayer for tonight.

Kelly, I LOVE Harper's chunky legs. They're adorable!
I think about you all ALL the time. I just feel such a connection to you since we just went through this with our daughter Blair. I'm so glad you are at the RMH. It IS a blessing! All of the information you put in your posts is so eerily familiar. I pray for you each day and pray for the nurses and doctors. Don't be discouraged by small improvements or none at all. God's timing is perfect. There may even be a day where she has a step back, but she will be well before you know it. She is precious. I love the bow too!

Hi Kelly! I'm praying that she will be able to breathe on her own--slowly but surely of course. So glad that you have a wonderful nurse--and so sweet of those nurses to put a bow on her head. She is gorgeous, Kelly. You have one beautiful baby girl on your hands.

I read that you are staying at the Ronald McDonald house--my aunt and uncle stayed at one when my cousin was sick with cancer and it was a huge blessing for them. I'm glad you're able to stay there.

We're praying for you, Harper, your family, the other babies and families and the nurses. I love that you've been able to use this time to thank others and ask us to pray for those other babies. God is good. You have an amazing spirit. I'm so impressed with you even more each day.

Hugs to you and Harper!

have been praying for your sweet girl but haven't commented until now.. first, she is beautiful, and i love those thighs!! it is unbelievable she came out of you "naturally", you are tiny! second, i am now 25, but when i was born i apparently had a very similar experience, life flown and everything.. i was premature, and my lungs weren't fully developed so i think that was a big set back in fighting off whatever infection i have, but i don't remember a thing {lol}, and it never ever was an issue or set back for me once i got beyond it. i hope that serves as an encouragement that Harper has a full and vibrant life ahead of her, and that she will not remember an ounce of this.. sometimes in the midst of something so trying and scary it's hard to see beyond it, but your sweet girl will take with her as she grows, the love and support and prayers of countless people and not how lousy she felt, or scary it was..
praying, and believing God has mighty plans for her life!

I have read your blog for months and have recently just started blogging my own life. You are an inspiration because your blog and faith are amazing. Please know that our family is praying for precious little Harper everyday. I teach in Fayetteville and I am an avid scrapbooker, there are many teachers and scrapbookers out here praying for you. May God bless you and your family as you get through each day. She is beautiful and I absolutely love the bow!!!

Please know I will be praying for Harper, you and your family and the dr. and nurses. The NICU is a scary place. My oldest son was in the NICU at Northside in Atlanta for 8 weeks the beginning of 2005 (10 weeks early) and my younger son was in the NICU for 6 weeks (8 weeks early) later that same year (9.5 months apart). One wise nurse once told me that some days you will take 2 steps forward only to take a step back the next day. It is hard but prayers help so much. Today the boys are healthy 4 and 3 year olds. I pray that Harper will be healed by God soon.

Dear Jesus, I thank you in advance for the plans you have for Harper and for the Godly woman she will grow to be. Touch her in Jesus name and do a miraculous healing in her body. Amen

I was crippled from Juvenile Rhuemetoid arthiritis at the age of 3. The Doctors outcome was not good. But, through the power of prayer I was completely healed and the Doctors were stumped. I have two beautiful children and have lived a sports filled active life. And, I believe God has great plans for precious little harper and I am anxious to hear the good report!

She is the prettiest little thing. My grandson had the same thing when he was born. He came out of it really good on day 7.His heart and lungs were healed. He came home on day 14. He was really bad at first. The Lord had his hand on him the whole time just as he does Harper.I know in my heart she'll be fine, just as Austin is. After a catch up time, by the time he was 4mts. you would have never known. Kelly you sounded tired. Take care of yourself. God bless you and Scott.I know the Lord also has his hand and love all over the two of you. Your a very pretty family.Still praying for all of you.

Kelly, I'm just now able to check your blog since getting back from church. I'm lovin' Harper's little bow... but you're right... she's ready for the big bows!! I still can't get over how beautiful she is.

You're looking great. I know how a gal feels (and hurts, and walks) after delivering a BIG baby... be sure to take care of yourself. I know it's not high on your priority list right now.

We're praying for you all and have you on our hearts all day long!!

You and your husband have a great new addition to your family. My brother and sister-in-law just had a baby girl on the 15th. She is going to be such a girly girl just like Harper. LOVE all of the monogramming and love the pictures of Harpers nursury. She is lucky to have great parents like you looking after her :)

We will all keep praying for your family, she is a beautiful baby!

Oh...she looks precious with her little purple bow! I see some wave in that hair...wonder if it will be curly? I know the days when nothing happens seem to be a downer, but I always tried to remind myself that hearing nothing and my son being stable, was much better than getting bad news! I pray Harper is tollerating her new oxygen level and will have a good restful night! She is such a little cutie pie!

I am so glad that she is doing well. I know that you don't know me, but i have been praying for you and Harper since last Friday. I know first hand how hard it is to have your baby in an NICU unit. My son was born 7 weeks early and was in the NICU unit at Baptist in Little Rock for 3 weeks and 1 day. I hope that she gets better soon. The thing that I always had to remember was that he was in the best hands and that was where he needed to be at that time. He is now 4 years old and doing wonderful. Please know that my prayers are with you

I found your blog through another friend's blog. A close friend of mine gave birth to a beautiful baby boy 1 year ago this past Tuesday named Harper. This baby, like yours, had many unforseen complications after delivery. He was in the hospital for 6 weeks! He was a little fighter though, and I know your Harper will be, too. He is healthy and quite active now. I trust that God is going to take care of you baby girl. I'm praying for you here in Dallas!

Hi Kelly! It is wonderful to see Miss Harper all dolled up tonight and you sound so upbeat and happy in your post! I am so thrilled!
Miss Harper is gorgeous. She is most certainly a fighter and what a blessing that she has a strong big body to aid her.
Her nurse looks wonderful. I am saying prayer upon prayer daily. I think of you all several times an hour. It is funny to feel like you "know" a complete stranger. I found your blog only a couple of months ago when they had a "blog baby shower" for you. I was so compelled by your beautiful life story. Your love, enthusiasm and joy just radiate through your words.
I can't tell you what a blessing it has been to me to pray for Harper. It has taught me so much about our earthly plans (I'm a control freak so that's a biggie for me.) But mostly it has led me to be a better mother to my own children (two boys--4 and 4 months) and to really appreciate their health. Thank you for continuing to share your story.
I hope you don't mind and its not too personal, but I've never experienced something like this in my own life. Do you mind sharing more about how a "typical" day goes? Do you get to spend most of it by Harper's side? I just find it so amazing what modern medicine can do.

I do hope you are getting some rest and healing up.
Take care!

I can't remember how I found your blog half a year ago or so but nonetheless, I love it and have been praying tons all the way from Arizona. Even my kiddos have been praying and my husband calls from work mid day asking how Harper is.

I was thrilled when I read the entry yesterday when you said you were staying at the Ronald McDonald House. My Girl Scout, Brownie troop of 19 gals collects soda pop tops and donates them to the AZ chapter of the Ronald McDonald house to help lighten the cost for people to stay there (they recycle the soda tops). I can't wait to share with the girls that I "know someone" that is blessed by their hard work over the past 2 years!

Blessings to you. Do not lose hope! God is doing Mighty Things!

Kelly, even the little things...like seeing her face taped...make me cry these days. I just feel like I love her as my own...I think prayer must do that. Please know that from a mother's heart...I know your hurt must be deep to see her there, but I really and truly believe she is going to come home with you. And she will always be a testimony to a Great God. Not a day will go by that you don't think of that and give God the glory. Just think...you can tell your grandchildren about it one day...all of them sitting around realizing they would not be here unless God intervened. I am praying for healing. I had a dream about you, me and Laurie. I drove to see Harper and she sat up! :) Then Laurie didn't know how to give me directions home...I suppose it was more realistic than I thought. I love you, girl. Wish I could fly to you and hug you, but will just keep praying. Got lots of folks holding you up.

I have two daughters of my own, now 18 and 20, both in college in the US, so I know the joy of little girls. My youngest had the chunky thighs as a newborn too-they're the best!

I will continue to pray and look forward to hearing your continuing good reports.

KELLY,

I've been trying to figure out how to login here, but I'm having a heck of a time. Anyway, forgive me if this comes up "anonymous". I am in Tulsa (actually, Broken Arrow which is a suburb of Tulsa) and have been brainstorming on what I can do for you, your husband & precious Harper. I found your blog just a day after you gave birth to your gorgeous baby girl- she was born on my birthday, too~ LOL! What's really crazy is that I was born January 16th at 7:06 P.M. AND...I have a 10 month old son that was in the EOPC at St. Francis back in March. '08..and better yet, Carrie was one of his AMAZING nurses!! ;)

Kelly, my every thought & prayer are with you- and I plan to come see you soon (I hope you don't mind complete strangers stopping by!). I had planned to come today, but my "NICU baby" is sick with a viral infection and running a 103 degree fever. The fever started last night, and we have actually been in one of the adjoining medical buildings at St. Francis all day at his pediatrician's office trying to figure out what is going on. He's doing just fine now- but I can't sleep (yet again- it's been a LOOOONG year- lol).

Since I'm just rambling away, I will stop now, but PLEASE...know that my husband/family and I are wanting to help you and your family in any way we can! Just let me know what you need, and I'll be there in an instant! Even if I don't hear from you soon, I will be stopping by once I can.

Precious Harper is in AWESOME hands--God's hands are the greatest of all, of course, but the nurses, doctors, staff, etc. at St. Francis are absolutely wonderful!!! My entire family is praying for you all- and praying for strength and a speedy recovery for Miss Harper!

Much love and God Bless!!!!

I love her bow and blanket! You are too cute :) Harper will be well soon so that you can put all of those cute dresses on her. I can't wait to see that!

I've told you this before on a comment, but I have the same dress you wore yesterday and when I saw it I just had to smile because if we were together yesterday we would have been TWINKIES! I wore the SAME thing...the dress with a long sleeved black shirt underneath! How funny...your girl is looking great!

Harper is holding her own and looking so precious. Grateful that in addition to caring friends you have a wonderful nurse who is with her as well. NICU nurses are special people.

Kelly,

I am a Tri Chi at OBU and Hannah and Kayla told us about your baby, so I came to read more. I am praying faithfully that God will heal her! So are all of your other sisters! Harper is going to grow big and strong and beautiful because God is faithful!

Harper is absolutely beautiful! Someday you'll be showing her these pictures and she won't believe that she was in that tiny NICU bed! Thinking of you and your family.

She looks so sweet in her bow! NICU nurses are so thoughtful.

When my brother and I were in the NICU, we had one nurse each. My mom still taalks about how careful they were with us. I always say you have to have a special place in your heart to be able to work in the NICU. Not just any nurse can do it.

Well, hope you are making time to rest. You've got to have enough energy to go and see Harper each day. The hospital really wears on you after awhile. My mom and family had to drive over an hour each way to see us. They did this for months.

Scott, Kelly, Baby Harper, and family!
Being able to read, and watch how you all are dealing with Harper's sickness has been incredible. Though you all are torn to pieces over your little miracle being sick, you still find strength to reach out others, and to be open about your families story. The image of Jesus is shining through these times, and I know you are overwhelmed with the amount of prayers, gifts, and kindness brought your way, and still you come back wanting all of us to pray for the little ones who may not have 30,000 plus (so much more!!) praying for them. Your faith has been so evident through the past 6 days of Harper's life.

Scott and Kelly, you guys are the proud parents of a beautiful baby! I was 9lbs 2oz when I was born .. Skipped the newborn diapers right away .. =) Continue to lean on one another and remember to take care of yourself, so Harper can only have the best of you!! Can't wait to see her in all her outfits!!

Praying so hard for you all. Blessings from Arizona!

I came across your blog today and just wanted to share my story with you. I went through this same thing with 2 of my 5 children. Both were large baby girls with pneumonia. The older one actually had heart issues too. And after many prayers they discovered it was nothing. I know prayer works so I will be praying for your family. Oh and the doctors couldn't tell us how long they would be in the hospital. But both of my girls got better enough to come home after an 8 day stay. It was a long 8 days for me. And the most recent one had to be on oxygen at home to keep her levels up but at least we did get to bring her home. I totally understand how you feel and pray that you continue to be as strong as you are right now. You don't realize what an inspiration you are to many many people. Good Luck and God Bless!

I have been reading your blog for several days now and praying for Harper and all of your family! When I saw the post today with the monogrammed pink dog, my heart dropped because my 18 month old little girl, Myla, has 4 of those because she became so attached to hers as a baby! In fact, I am a little panicked b/c we lost one in wal-mart today, but I guess we have 3 backups. So sweet! I hope Harper continues to improve. Your faith has been such an encouragement to me. Also, my dad and his family live in Yellville, AR. Can you believe that? I live in Oxford, MS, but it is such a small world. My dad is the minister of music at FBC Yellville and he knows your dad. I called him to tell him about you so he could be praying as well! Thanks for all the updates.

I'm sitting on the couch with my 4 year old, and I wanted to check in to see how Miss Harper is doing today. My daughter looked at the photo and asked, "Who's that?" I said, "That's baby Harper." She asked, "But who's the grown up?" I told her, "That's Ms. Kelly. We don't know her, but her baby is sick, so we need to pray for her." My daughter got all excited and said, "Well, God can take care of that! We'll pray for Him to help the doctors!"

From a 4-year-old's mouth to God's ears... :)

So glad to hear the positive report today. You're all still in our prayers.

We NICU nurses just LOVE baby linen. The goal is to always have the cutest bed in the room. Loving the bow: I think I'll have to do that with my little patients!
