Surprise 40th Birthday

Sunday my best friend Laurie is turning 40.  I told her I can't wrap my head around the fact that we have been friends for over 20 years. I feel like we are still the same early 20 year olds we were when we were living together.
I thought it would be fun to throw her a surprise birthday lunch.  Most of our friends have MDO on Wednesdays so I thought that would be a good day.  I told her I had invited 2 friends over for lunch.  I asked everyone to wear black and I decorated in black. I didn't' go too crazy with decorations but I wanted to make it a little festive.
My friend Robin made these cute cookies. This isn't the best picture but they were too cute for words. The cupcakes say "Laurie".

I got a chocolate cake and a white cake from a local bakery. They turned out cute and they were SO good!
I served tacos and chips, guacamole, salsa, taquitos and king ranch chicken along with the desserts.
Laurie is famous for wearing a big pink bathrobe so our friend Ginger and her kids wore their bathrobes over their clothes! I thought it was so cute.  Laurie was REALLY surprised! I think it was a very fun day for her.
Korbyn and Alex - sweet friends!
 Kacy, Amanda and Lela
Tracy, Vonda and Brady and Berkli
It was so fun to have Beth and Hillary here. Beth grew up with Laurie and lives her now and Hillary has been one of our good friends for a long time. She was a bridesmaid in both our weddings. She drove up from Little Rock to be here. That was a big surprise for Laurie.
Mary Avery and Kim.  Kim was another bridesmaid in Laurie's wedding and a special guest!
 Laurie, Maegan and Jessica
Bethany and Luke and Robin and Emily

 Rachel and Amanda

I was so nervous about today going okay but I think it turned out fun.  Laurie called me this morning and I just KNEW she was going to say Sarah Kate was sick and she couldn't come to lunch and I was panicked on what to do but everything was fine!

A group picture. I hope Laurie will never forget her 40th birthday!
I had all of Laurie's friends - even ones that live away and couldn't be here write Laurie a letter and tell her how special she is to them or tell a funny story or stories.  Laurie loves words of affirmation so I knew she would treasure this. I have a feeling she might sleep with it under her pillow. I put all the letters in a book for her.

I'm so thankful for a friend like Laurie. She is the sister that God let me choose for myself.
Happy 40th birthday Laurie!
