PLEASE PRAY

Update:
Just talked to Laurie - they did x-rays and it's not in her bones. They put her on another NEW antibiotic and she is going back Thursday for surgery if it's not better by then. I feel so much better about it but it's still very serious and scary. Please keep praying it goes away.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

If ya'll have read this blog at all - you know this is my best friend Laurie. She and I are more like sisters than friends.
Laurie has had a staph infection in her finger for the last few days and has been on several antibiotics and it just kept getting worse. She saw a doctor this morning who scheduled her for surgery this afternoon.
I just talked to her husband, Steve. He didn't know a lot of details except the surgeon wouldn't do the surgery because it looked so bad and he thought it might possibly be in her bones?
PLEASE, PLEASE - I'm begging you to pray for my sweet friend. I'm scared to death right now and I know she is too. PLEASE PRAY!

i will definitely pray for her! just fyi, i am a PT with experience in wound care and if it is "in her bones" it is likely only in the bone of her finger right where the wound is. just didn't want you to freak out and think that meant it was in all her bones! still scary for sure and nothing to mess with but maybe not quite as bad as it sounds.

I am and will continue to pray for Laurie and her family. I can hear the hurt in your words. My husband had this on his foot just a few weeks ago. It is very scarey and sometimes hard to diagnose the exact kind of staph. God is bigger than all this though, and He will hear AND answer our prayers.

I'll be praying for wisdom for the doctors and the best course of treatment for her. About a year ago, the doctors thought I had staph, but all of the tests came back negative. That was such a stressful time because of all of the tests I had to endure, so I know where she's coming frpm.

I'll also be praying for peace for Laurie. Even when things look grim, the report of the Lord is what matters the most. The doctors only know so much. God has the final say in every situation.

I forgot to add to make sure she is being referred to an infectious disease doctor. When the surgeon didn't know what else to try, he referred me to an infectious disease doctor. They have expertise in that area, so they may know another treatment to try when everything else fails.

I completely understand on a close level (I am an athletic trainer and husband a physical therapist) the overwhelming scare that both of your families have at this moment. If it is in her bones strong medicine will get rid of it. This will probably consist of a hospital isolation stay (scary in itself with staph and a hospital) A cousin of mine had it in her spine and after a hospitalization she is so much better. I hope these words give you hope and I am praying for her.

Will do! Keep us posted on her condition!

Hi Kelly - my husband & I each have had 3 staph infections (including surgeries!), so I can offer some tips (that she probably already knows) -

1.) Her entire home needs to be disinfected (with a cleaner that states it kills staph) - numerous times. Let the cleaner "sit" as the directions state, in order to kill the staph. Spray all light switches, doorknobs, phones, remotes, etc. w/ Lysol spray.

2.) She needs to purchase & use Hibiclens soap - can be purchased @ CVS/Walgreens. Personally, I love this soap now! Feel so clean.

3.) Antibiotic - Bactrim - this is the only antibiotic that kills the staph.

4.) Bactroban Ointment - this is an ointment antibiotic - put on a q-tip & apply in each nostril (as far up as she can get it) 2 x a day for 5 days. It is icky! But, the nose is where staph lives. This ointment can also be rubbed on any suspicious "bumps".

5.) Bleach (add 1 cup of bleach, rather, to all loads) all towels, washcloths, panties, etc. We are past our staph infections, but I still continue to do this.

Her doctor probably has her doing all this, but I thought I would toss it your way, just in case! Staph is one of the most painful things I have ever experienced! Will be praying for her!

Papa-God, You are the Great Physician, and we ask for healing for Laurie. Anoint her doctors with wisdom and insight into the situation. Use their talents and gifts for Your honor and glory. Beyond that, we ask that Your incredible peace that truly passes all understanding blanket Laurie right now, as well as those who love her. Allow them to feel your assurance as they wait for answers and results. Banish fear and replace it with faith and trust. We ask this in Your Son's name. Amen

Hi Kelly~ I got goose bumps when I saw the title and preceding picture of this post. If my best friend were going through this right now I would feel just about as lost as you probably feel right now. I will definitely be praying for Laurie and her friends and family. As the day comes to a close here, this is what I will be praying over your dear friend:
"When the sun was setting, all those who had any that were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them and they were healed." Luke 4:40

And I pray she will never get this again.

Lord, we know You are the God who answers prayers in Your perfect time. We trust that You are with Laurie and ask You to heal her body of this infection. Father we ask that You would provide the best medical team to care for her, and ask that she would be able to avoid having surgery, but if surgery is required, we ask that You guide the hands of her surgeon(s) with skill & precision for the best outcome possible for Laurie. In Jesus' name, amen.

Praying for your dear friend and her family. I know you may think I'm crazy and that's ok with me ;) but I use cleaning products through melaleuca and just recently got my book all about their products and I just read not 2 hours ago about how all the products people use are breaking our body down and leading to staf infections, etc. The FDA does not have much power over these companies and they're allowed to not even say everything that's in their products, which is literally breaking our bodies down and making us more suspetible to infections such as MRSA and other Staf infections, etc. It's honestly been an eye opening night for me. I've been using the natural products for about 7 years, but didn't even realize all the damage that the harsh chemicals that we can buy in the stores do to our bodies and our children, etc.

I am NOT soliciting, seriously..but if you want to learn more I am happy to share the book (well the website where I ordered it) and can share about melaleuca (plus the best cleaning products I've seriously EVER used and they don't hurt us!!!). Anyways, feel free to email me: my3gifts@aol.com and please know I'm truly on my knee's for Laurie.

Oh my goodness--scary--praying for Laurie!!! Keep us posted.

I am at that point about nursing and I change my mind every 30 seconds--time to quit, no, I can't quit, yes, time to quit...Knowing this is our last child (unless God has a BIG surprise for us) just makes it SO hard to let go...I'll never ever get to do this again, and it's been such a sweet bond for me with all three kids. I'm about to cry just typing about it. I thought I'd do 6 months. Today C is 7 months. And I still can't make myself buy formula (partly because it costs $25!!!). I'm going on a one-night stay in November, but C is going to be in the same town, just not in the hotel with me, so I'm tempted to try to make it work and not quit yet. I'm thinking out loud here...thanks for posting about your experience, it makes me feel better!

Definitely praying! I feel for her. My family has battles staph {MRSA} for 3 years now. My daughter was hospitalized at 3 with it, had emergency surgery, my husband was hospitalized in March, and I was hospitalized in July with surgery. Mine was a very severe infection, and after a 6 day stay and surgery, I went home fully healed! PTL! We met with the infectious disease team, and we have been great since. You had a lady comment, I believe her name was Melissa, and she gave all sorts of tips...the same things we did. The only difference for us was that Bactrim didn't even put a dent in our infections, we had to go with the strongest available, Vancomyicin.

I know what a scary time it is for her and the family, as well as you...praying for complete healing!
