"Hunting" for a win

UPDATE:
Bunco is just a game of dice throwing. It's really fun - you sit 4 to a table (or 3) and my favorite part is you constantly rotate partners and tables so you get a chance to visit with everyone that is there individually.
(I took this picture of I would have been sitting in that empty chair. I did have on camo pants!)

I was so excited last night because my friend Rachel hosted bunco and it was a camoflauge theme!!! Since a lot of us have husbands who hunt - it was a fun theme. After being inside for the last few days with a sick baby - I was SO happy to have some time with friends!

Rachel made the YUMMIEST food including some of my favorites - pigs in a blanket and strawberry cake balls! (I did not count how many I ate) She even had camo plates and napkins!
The recipe for the cake balls is HERE - just use strawberry cake mix instead of red velvet)
I love bunco - but mostly for the food and fellowship. Pretty sure we did more talking and laughing than serious playing ......but it's a great excuse to get together!
Kacy and Rachel - Kacy ALWAYS wins!
Mary Avery, Lindsey and Ashley
Caryn, Vonda, Berkli and Robin
The hostess with the mostess and one of her precious boys! He was even in camo! I just KNOW that in a few months she is going to be having a little girl (she doesn't find out).
Before I went - I dressed Harper up in her own little camo outfit and took her picture. She gets the camo for daddy but the big bow for me!
Does anyone else want to break out into "I'm a little bit country....I'm a little bit rock & roll"
This picture makes me laugh. It's like she's saying "Oh No you DIDN'T" when she found out I left her home asleep with her daddy to keep her while I was out having fun with my friends.

Do any of you have bunco groups that you play with? Isn't it SO fun??? We have done a sports theme, high school theme, Pajamas theme, camo theme, 80's theme, Hawaiian luau theme...........do you have any more fun themes for us in the future to try? I think the themes make it even more fun and everyone always participates!

(Okay - here I am in the empty chair - I was there. Wish you could see my camo pants!)

Am I the first to comment??? This Friday is Bunco for my group. I love going and talking to the ladies. We do the 2nd Friday in the month. I can't wait for January because I will be hosting for the first time. :)

I love our Bunco group. The hostess always picks the theme and we center our food around it. We don't dress for the theme b/c we ordered "Dice Divas" t-shirts w/ our names on them :) This months theme is "something pink" b/c of breast cancer awareness month. I host in December and am thinking about a Cookie Exchange theme...haven't officially decided yet! My favorite theme was for grandparents day, we did a "gmas favorite recipe" theme that month.

I played last night! It always so much fun. I like how your group does themes and may have to mention to my girls. Harper is too cute!

Love that you had a great time at Bunco! I have only played once w/ Mama and her friends! We had a ball! As far as a theme, what about a Mexican Fiesta? That's always fun! Or a Fall Fest (not necessarily Halloween but like next month you can still do something during Fall time! :) ). I was wondering, are yall loooking for anyone else to play bunco?? I would love to play if yall need anyone! ;)

kelly - unrelated to bunco (although love the theme idea)... my second little one is 6 months old and is a bit spirited. basically, nothing makes her happy. however, based on your suggestion i thought i'd give praise baby a shot. i have teared up twice today because she loves it. even if it's 5 minutes here or there. she's content for a few minutes and giggles at it and i love that she's hearing these songs and i can worship with her and get my head on straight for the day. thank you so much. love your blog.

Bunco is so much fun! Our group has a blast and our themes are more decor related rather than clothing. My month is June and I always have a hard time picking a theme. Thanks for the ideas. Harper is absolutely precious. My little Sophia is 7 months old and we enjoy seeing what's ahead of us. Have a great evening.

We have themes at my BUNCO too! We have done the typical Mexican, Hawaiian, pajamas, bridesmaid dress, Halloween costume. We have also done flip flops, chocolate night where you wore chocolate brown and then we had a chocolate fountain! That was a fun night!

I played last night too! I LOVE BUNCO!

How do y'all do your alternates? We started with just 12, but then quickly added 4 more as people had conflicts. I am afraid that after the holidays, we are going to have too many people. Ideas?

hey kelly...our bunco group has been going strong for over 5 years. every june we hold a kid's bunco. my friend reserves her church and all of the kids come. we bring a $5 gift per child and they actually "play" bunco, rotate tables, etc. at the end, everyone gets a prize and then the kids get to make their own ice cream sundaes. they LOVE it and always ask when we are going to do it again!

Being from the South, it is always fun to make fun of the stereotypes in the South so what about a "Redneck Rivera" theme?? You could dress up like country-bumpkins and have Vegas style decorations! Just an idea....wish I had a Bunco group. It looks like so much fun!

What a fun theme! I have a hunter of a husband too and would definitely have plenty to choose from to wear!

I throw silly girls night parties from time to time. I usually use movies as my inspiration. I threw a Hairspray Hop and we actually did big hair on each other and watched the movie. I also threw a Pirate Party in honor of pirates of the caribbean. We had an ugly bridesmaid dress party for 27 dresses - it's super fun. I haen't done one in a while, but I love theme parties AND the fellowship with my girlfriends!

We've had the normal ones, but we did GO GREEN in March and we play for money instead of prizes! So much fun! I love Bunco night!

Marley said...

We have eight girls playing, and have potluck or dutch dinner during the summer months. For one of the months at my house, I had each lady bring their favorite dish with the recipe printed out. I made them little recipe books from mini photo albums for a dollar. They got to try new recipes and take them home in their own recipe book. We win gifts, so I bought cookware and other related items as gifts. I also wrapped them up with mixing spoons on the outside. Everyone loved it. We also have had a salad night, each lady brings a different kind of salad, pasta salad, fruit salad, taco salad, etc... I had a green themed night for March on St. Patrick's day, since my married name is Sullivan!

I LOVE bunco night! We play next Wednesday...I always look forward to that night, even if it is only a few hours away, it's so nice to have the girl-talk and friendship! We never do themes - not sure we'd really get much playing done if we did! We always have fun finger foods and drinks and laugh until we are teary eyed! Instead of themes we have secret pals. Every month you can opt to bring your secret pal a gift and leave on the porch. After the games are over, the hostess brings in and distributes the gifts. At Christmas we reveal who our secret pals are...so fun!! :)

I wished I had a game night like that. Sounds like so much fun!

Most of the ones we've done have been listed, but one cute one I haven't seen was a "Back to School" theme. The hostess used styrofoam plates that have all the sections ... like a school lunch tray. It was really cute. Filled up some cute glass jars with glue, crayons, and pencils (she got it at all at the back to school sales when glue is like 25 cents). Anyway... she had lots of cute back to school ideas. Everyone got an apple to take home. :) Could be fun when your babies get a little bigger.

I love Bunco! I play with the NICU nurses who took such great care of my 6 year old when she was born at 25 weeks. They are the group that I just walked with in the Atlanta Breast Cancer walk, too. We don't do themes but I think that's a great idea! The first time I played, I did so bad that I stayed at the SAME table ALL night! I never left the first table - just rotated chairs - and no one really wanted to be my partner ;-) It was still fun and I've had several "Bunco's" since! Thanks for sharing your fun time with us!

Oh how I love my Bunco group! We get together the 2nd Thursday of each month. It never seems to come fast enough and then it goes by so fast once we get there. I love knowing that once a month I am going to get a couple of hours of just me time.

We dont do themes very often but we do have a big Christmas party every year. We reserve a room at a resturant and do an ornament exchange. We dont actually play that month but everyone is invited including subs, so it is a large group. We have a blast all getting together and laughing!

Harper is a cutie (I have 2 princesses myself and I love every minute of it.)

We don't do themes very much, but we have done Backwoods Bunco before which was a big hit. In my old group I did a baseball theme and served foods that you'd find at a ball park concession stand. Where did you get the Camo Cutie Onsie?
My husband is a huge hunter and when I found out I was pregnant I told him by giving him 2 camo onsies one was for a girl (but it wasn't pink) and the other for a boy. The camo theme is too cute!

Kelly, you actually inspired me to start my own Bunco group! I've never before played, but have a good friend that has (at her old church in Little Rock) and together we've gone and made us our own group from church and I am SOOOO excited. I know it's going to be great fun and bring us all closer together and I think inviting non church members whenever someone can't make it will be a WONDERFUL ministry opportunity. So thank you, thank you for inspiring me!!!

As for themes, we're doing 80s as our first one (tomorrow!) and I know it's going to be a hoot. Some of our other ideas are ones you've already mentioned, but I think a Nerd/Geek night would be HILARIOUS. Also, my friend's Bunco group did couple Bunco for the month of February and I am really looking forward to that. The thought of our husbands playing Bunco just makes me laugh. :)
