Date Night

QUICK QUIZ

Scott and I have the hardest time making decisions about important life things like where to eat and what movie to see.

My parents are coming Friday night to spend the night and keep Harper while we have a DATE! ;-) We are going to go crazy and try to do dinner AND a movie!!!

But the hard part is picking where to eat and what movie.

So.........if you have seen a good movie lately that you
recommend - leave us a comment and whatever gets the most comments - we will go with. (I really want to see "The Proposal". ) We try not to go to R rated movies so keep that in mind. Remember we haven't seen a movie in 7 months! And it could be 7 more before we see another one.

And if you are local and have a favorite restaurant - tell us that too - maybe we'll use your pick.

THANKS!

P.S. I don't know what this font is so big - but I can't get it to go smaller.

In regards to The Proposal nudity scene:

"The pair is completely nude, and the camera captures all but the most sensitive regions of their bodies. In essence, the filmmakers show us everything, while not showing quite everything. "

That report also says God's name is misused 20+ times.

We have a 2 1/2 year old and we RARELY go out to a movie. I actually took my mom to The Proposal for her birthday and it was a really cute movie. I would recommend it after seeing it. The Time Traveler's Wife looks good to me also but I have a feeling that we probably won't be seeing that in the theater. Have fun!

Teri said...

100% you need to see The Proposal. My husband and I have seen The Proposal and The Ugle Truth - THE PROPOSAL is MUCH better!!! My Vote is The Proposal!

I LOVED The Proposal!! My husband said that he has never heard me laugh so much and so loudly in a movie theater as that movie!! My husband was NOT excited about going to see it and after watching it he agreed that it was REALLY good! I can't wait to see it again.

Have fun on your date night!!

The Proposal is one of the funniest movies I've seen in awhile. I laughed like so hard from the very beginning. The man even liked it! As far as eateries go...I would say Noodles!

Have not seen The Proposal waiting for The Time Traveler's Wife. Last movie I was Dark Knight.

Great place to eat in NW AR is The Market Place. Used to come up for Razorback games. Great place for breakfast is Susan's in Springdale.

I loved The Proposal and even if you don't usually go see R rated movies... The Ugly Truth is so hilarious! Not sure what kind of movies Scott likes but Harry Potter is good as well as Transformers 2, but if you are looking for a romantic comedy I'd stick with The Proposal or The Ugly Truth. Have a great time Kelly! I love reading your blog!

My husband and I went on a date night with our good friends to see The Proposal. The guys were skeptical at first, but loved it as much as us girls did. It is sooo good and also super sweet and cute! Go for it!

Melinda said...

It's funny because I just posted something and deleted it after I read a comment from a Ginny. Her comment said ""The pair is completely nude, and the camera captures all but the most sensitive regions of their bodies. In essence, the filmmakers show us everything, while not showing quite everything. "

That report also says God's name is misused 20+ times."

I originally said "My vote is the Proposal, it is so cute". I did enjoy this movie with girlfriends. My husband and I are VERY cautious of what we watch as we do not want any hint of impurity to come in our marriage. It is funny how the world so easily sucks us in and what once was deemed as unacceptable is now wonderful...I did enjoy the movie. The partial nudity scene did not have to be and when I saw how many times they used our Lord and Saviors name in vain...wow. Anyways...have a great date night! I love following your blog!! :-)

My husband and I just saw The Proposal for our anniversary (our first date in 9 months)! We both loved, loved, loved it!! I highly recommend it (i've actually seen it twice, it was so good)! Enjoy your date!

Like many others said, The Proposal is soooo good! And absolutely hilarious! We went to go see if for our anniversary and my hubby laughed the entire way through. We also didn't think it was as predictable as alot of romantic comedies. As for dinner, Crabby's is yummy, and it has a nice intimate atmosphere. Have a great evening!!

Jill said...

I am not a big help with movies, but the eating part is right up my alley! I think you should go to Crabby's in Rogers - it is one of favs! If it's not too hot outside sit on the patio!
Enjoy your night with the hubby!

I vote for Julie & Julia. I have heard great things about this movie from people who got to see the sneak peek. :)

I'm also glad to see that the hubby and I aren't the only ones who don't get to do date nights that often...last weekend was the first one in almost 3 years!

I HIGHLY reccomend My Sister's Keeper. It's a tearjerker but my dad and I both loved it and that's a big accomplishment.

B.D.Riehl said...

My parents (who don't think twice about leaving a theater if the movie is offensive) said The Proposal is really good. Also, for our anniversary (and first movie out in years!) my husband and I went to see UP. Sure it's a kids' movie, but it was wonderful! Funny and even romantic. Very sweet. Good luck choosing and have a blast!

Kristen said...

No R rated movies here either! The Proposal was cute - a bit risque in a few parts but we liked it! Have fun on your date night!

Shelley said...

Our favorite date night restaurant, by far, is Theo's. It reminds of being back in a bigger city. It's pricey, but the food is delish (and beautiful). If you're looking for something closer to the movies, I would go with Mr. B's in Rogers. They have wonderful steaks...definitely just as good (or better) than Doe's in Bentonville.

definitely go see 'up' or '500 days of summer' which i saw at sundance earlier this year, both are great! have fun!

chesley said...

The Proposal is a very cute movie..go for it! Do not see The Ugly Truth! I'd only seen a few previews before the movie, but was absolutely shocked at the language in it!

I want to see the Proposal too some friends from church have already seen it and said it was hilarious!! Gotta love Olive Garden or Texas Roadhouse 2 of our favorites!

Michelle said...

Sorry, girl, but I have no movie recommendations. Maybe because I have two kids and never get to go to the movies? lol

I just thought your font was big because you were so EXCITED about your big date. Have fun!

Carolyn said...

I thought the Proposal was cute, but the nude scene stuck out like a sore thumb and was completely unnecessary. Good chemistry between Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds.

Star Trek was really good - and that's coming from a romantic comedy chick at heart who can't handle violent movies. Good characters and story line. You don't have to have any history with Star Trek in order to like it. Plus, if your husband is like mine, there's only so many chick flicks he can handle!

Have fun on your date!!

I have seen The Proposal twice and loved it both times! My husband and I just moved to the area not too long ago and we like Pesto Cafe or MarketPlace. Have fun on your date!

Megan {The Brick Bungalow} said...

We're going on our first date night this weekend and are having the same problem! We aren't sure even what movies are out there, let alone what looks good to us! And as for restaurants, the last time I was in Fayetteville (I thought that's where you live), we ate at this great Asian restaurant where they come to your table to cook. Can't remember the name but it was a chain and I think it was the only one like it. I don't eat sea food and I'll admit they had the best shrimp around! Everything was great. Have fun!!

Michelle said...

My vote would be for sure the proposal- awesome movie that even a guy would like. For dinner you should definitely go to bonefish! Soo yummy and nice. Plus they are running specials right now! Have so much fun!

khull05 said...

"The Proposal" is hilarious! Way exceeded my expectations and is not too "chick flicky". It definitely gets my vote. Of course, it's the only movie I've seen in approximately 3 years! =)

Janee said...

Both my hubs and I loved the Proposal!

Bethany said...

Looks like The Proposal is going to win! Just wanted to say that I hope you have a fantastic time on your date! I agree with the one comment at the beginning that the movie "Up" is also really cute!! But you could always rent that with Harper when she's a few years old and enjoy it as a family :) Have fun!

Leah said...

The Proposal is PG-13 and is very cute. Betty White is in and steals the show. She's a doll. There is a little nakey scene, so beware of that. I recently saw The Ugly Truth and the raunchy language made it very deserving of its R rating.
Yall have fun!!

hope ya'll enjoy your date nite!

The Proposal is great! My hubby and I went and saw it for our anniversary. Not sure about your restaurants there but we love going to the japanese steakhouse and Chili's or a good mexican place, we love mexican food :) Hope y'all have fun!

MacKenzie said...

It's a little old but if you haven't seen it, I would recommend UP. I know it's a kid's movie but my husband and I went to see it together and it was really sweet (I cried 4-5 times, but it was still good). Afterwards we talked about our life and what we wanted our life to look like when we get older, how we want to have spent our years and view our trials and hardships.

A Refocused Life said...

I'm way down on the list so you probably won't see this. But, have you eaten at Crabby's yet? The original is in Joplin, where I grew up and really good. Also LOVE PF Chang's. But did you see that Hugo's in Fayetteville was voted best burger in Southern Living this month?

Krista said...

I'd say go to The Proposal! I've heard people like it, and heck, if my husband wants to see it... then I'd say any guy would enjoy it! =)
I hope you guys have SO MUCH FUN! =) Can't wait to hear where you eat & what you see!

I will give you my two cents (for whatever it's worth)! First, I see people recommending both G-Force and The Ugly Truth and I have no idea why they would recommend either of them! I went with my husband and two kiddos to see G-Force and it was PAINFUL to sit through that movie. It had no real story and was just plain cheesy and BAD! Even the kids didn't like it, and that's saying a lot :) Second, I went on a girls' night to see The Ugly Truth and was honestly a little embarrassed to be in the theater. It is extremely vulgar. To me, they were pushing the limit on the R-rating. And that's all I have to say on those! :) Happy date night!

The Proposal! It really was funny. I have 3 kids 5 and under with another one due in a month...SO needless to say I hardly ever get out and that was the last movie I saw. It was great fun and just what I needed on a night out. Have fun!!

You and your husband will enjoy The Proposal. We went to see it on our anniversary in July and my husband loved it just as much as I did (he usually tolerates the chick flicks!)

Hi Kelly,
I love your blog! I have never posted a comment because I am a terrible lurker, but when I saw this post I had to tell you that "The Proposal is one of the BEST movies I have seen in a very long time! I have actually seen it twice and would have gone a third time with my girlfriends, but I had a time conflict on the night they were going. My husband actually liked it too and he is not a big romantic comedy guy (as most men aren't)! Hope you have fun on your date! I cherish those. We don't get them very often since we have two children ourselves! I actually found out about your blog from Amy Compton. We go to church with her and Doug. Amy and I grew up in the same town, so we have known each other for quite a while. And Doug....well, he is just a hoot and a great Godly man! Glad she told me about you.

You have GOT to go see Julie and Julia! I got to go see a prescreening of the movie and it was great! It was clean and both women had wonderful husbands and marriages and it was based on two true life stories. It was funny and at the end of the movie everyone in the theater clapped because it was just that good! I even wrote a post about it. http://abbysugarandspice.blogspot.com/2009/07/julie-and-julia.html

"The Proposal" was hysterical, I laughed 70% of the movie, the only thing I was concerned with was a semi- nude scene. It doesn't actually show anything and it's not a bedroom scene. It's supposed to be funny, but they're naked. Just a warning! Let us know what you see, hope this helped!

Hey, Miss Kelly! We're local, live just north of you. On the rare occasion we get out for a date night, we LOVE Crabby's. Ask for Jose, he's the best waiter. They have INCREDIBLE food, fresh flown-in seafood and he knows what to recommend. Trust him! They have a great happy hour with half price appetizers til 6. The calamari is incredible!!!! I know there are a lot of good places around, but if we're going to go out, this is our favorite. It's a little pricey, so we sometimes do the half price apps and share a dinner.
