THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION

I get asked this question at least 25 times a day from all of you.......

"When are you going back to work or are you going to stay home?"

And I couldn't answer that for you.

Until today.

I went and met with my boss this afternoon and let him know that I had decided to take a better job. (and I had an awesome job to start with)!

The pay is a WHOLE, WHOLE lot less.
There will be no raises or bonuses.
No company car.
No annual reviews.
The hours are a LOT longer.
I have to work nights and weekends.
I don't get vacation time or sick days.
I can't call in for "mental health" days.
I have to work all major (and minor) holidays.

But my new boss? He is SUPER CUTE!
And the person reporting to me - PRECIOUS!

Meet my new co-worker.

The little person reporting to me and I plan to have lots of "working lunches", "performance reviews", "coachings" and "team building exercises". I can't fire her so we are in this for the long haul.

As of tomorrow morning, after I clean my office out and turn in my keys, company car, and credit card - I will be starting the job I have dreamed of since I was a girl.

I will be a Stay at Home Mom.

I've never been happier in my entire life.

Hello Kelly,
I came upon your blog right before you had Harper and have followed your journey up until now. My husband and I have a 7 month old and being a parent is the most precious "job" that anyone could have. I chose to leave my job as a registered nurse to be a stay at home mom but wasn't sure if I was making the right decision. Well, after the first week, I knew I made the right one! You will love it! Congrats on your "new" job! I will send you an invite to my blog so that we can compare stories! Congrats Again!

I have loved being a SAHM for my two girl- now a third unknown on the way this fall. It has been so GREAT to see my 3 1/2 year old grow and learn with me. I agree my boss is super cute too- and some days that makes the "job" worth while, always being home and available when my boss needs me! :)

Oh Kelly, I know you are so excited and so THANKFUL to be able to stay home with Harper. That is wonderful news!

Kelly,
I am so happy for you that you will be able to stay home with Harper. That is a wonderful experience that can never be again and you will love it. Harper will also thrive with your love and attention. Your husband is a great father too and he obviously agrees with you and will see the benefits.
May God continue to bless your family.

Kelly, I am so, so happy for you!

This is something I have a hard time REALLY talking about on my blog because I know of many friends/readers that have made different decisions as a mother and I hate to come off as braggy or judgemental, but let me tell you...

Being a SAHM is one of THE BEST decisions I ever made. Right behind becoming a Christian and marrying my husband. I think it is the most wonderful gift a mother can give her child.

I am just thrilled that you made this decision. I want to promise you that you will NEVER regret it!

Congratulations!

I've been a SAHM for the past 12 years and have never regretted it for one minute. At times we've had to make some financial sacrifices, but I know that this has benefited our family far more than any extra money could. I have been wondering about whether you would go back to work.

I really didn't realize how wonderful it was until I got older. I have so many wonderful memories of all the things my mom did with my sister and I while dad was working. I am so so thankful for that. It truely was a blessing.

By the way, a while back you said that someone had told you that they hoped that when you had your baby that you wouldn't only blog about her. I'm really glad that since she has been born you mostly blog about her. I think it shows your shift in priorities--and that is perfectly appropriate!

You made an AWESOME decision!!!! I, like you, have dreamt of being a mom since I was a child. When we thought that dream would never come true we were crushed. Then, along came our little Hannah and three others have followed. I LOVE BEING AT HOME!!!!!! I would not give it up for anything!!

You will have good days and bad days. But the memories are awesome!!! You will see every "first" she has instead of the daycare seeing them. You will love it girl!! I promise you that!!!

Congrats, It's the best job in the world. I worked for 6 years in a hospital as a nurse, and now stay at home with my babies. I love it to death, but there are times when I'm like I think I'll go to work tomorrow. Harper is so so lucky to have you home with her.

I am so excited for you and Harper! I love staying home with Ava, wouldn't trade it for anything. Just remember to get out of the house by yourself sometimes, it is so easy to get stir crazy. Sometimes I just go to the library for a couple hours on my fiance's days off. Makes a WORLD of difference! Enjoy that little squishy of yours!

I've had some demanding and high stress jobs, but none of them compare to the exhaustion and stress that comes with being a SAHM. But the rewards are SO worth it! It sounds like you have a great support system so hopefully you can get out of the house and have a little "Me Time" every now and then. It will help save your sanity. :) Way to go on the new promotion!

I haven't ever read a more precious post... how rewarding! I began crying reading this b/c I too gave up a 'job' with a lot of the aboves but I made the same deicision and couldn't be happier. I waited 8 years after being married to have Piercen and I'd never have it any other way. There was no amount of money to keep me and I get paid in hugs and kisses now!

Kelly, your payscale is eternal. I don't regret a single day. And one day you'll find an old cd, like I did yesterday, with photos you forgot about, and you'll sob like I did that your firstborn girl is 10 this week. It happens so fast. enjoy it, I know you are, I can tell. Sorry about the package, it got returned to my mom, a guy took it on a flight for me but it got addressed wrong! She'll send it this week!!!

yay for you. sacrifices can be made and being a sahm can be accomplished. okay, so there are 'toys' you won't get to have and trips you won't take - but it's all worth it. congrats to the two of you for deciding she's worth it :)

When I read this, in the wee hours of the morning while nursing my not-so-little 6 month old, I almost cried. I am so, so, so glad. There is no better place to be and that is the truth.

I am glad that there are so many people wishing you well because it will cushion the blow when you get the negative comments in real life....because you *will* get them. Hang in there...and thanks for all the pictures...I love them!!

Kelly -

Congratulations! This is one job where the pay may not be as competitive as most, but wow are the perks amazing, never-ending and incomparable to anything else on earth! As the mother of five girls, just wanted to offer one of my favorite quotes on motherhood...

"Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body." Elizabeth Stone

This is the best decision you'll ever make!

Congrats, I have been a stay at home mom for 24 years now, not always easy, but love it and after our 4 birth kids were 22-14, and a grandchild on the way, we adopted a little 4 month old. Now have 2 grandchildren. The best, hardest, exhausting job. But being able to be there for my kids when they did whatever was neat. We didn't have a lot. but I am glad I was able. It was the job I always wanted.

I am thrilled for you. After my oldest was born, I had to go back to my job as an engineer at 3months- but only to get us in a position for me to quit- which I did at 9 months. I was able to stay home till she started kindergarten.

I have NEVER regretted it.

I did have to go back to work, unfortunately, but I am so glad that I had that time at home. And I can offer perspective on both sides of the SAHM/WOHM...if you ever need to know more, you can just email me.

You will not regret it!
