Technical Difficulities

In case you have forgotten her name or what she looks like - here is Harper today!
I swear she gets cuter and sweeter every day
This is our new home - the children's hospital. You didn't hear from us yesterday because the internet has been down. Mom and I are at the RMH doing laundry right now while Scott and Dad are watching the super bowl and trying to take care of Harper. (I just got a stressed out call from the new dad). ha! So I thought I'd do a quick update.
Yesterday- I got a visit from two blogger friends and two real life friends. Julie and Kate both came to visit us! We had a great time with both of them!
And Hillary and Josh came also! I was so excited to see them. We all went out for lunch! It was a nice break to be with such fun friends!!!
Here is the proud daddy and his girl. He is SO great with her. I never expected him to be this hands on of a dad. He is so in love with her. We just can't wait for the day we get her home and we can pick her up with NO cords or wires or monitors on her. It's so hard to scoop her up when she has so much attached to her.
Today has been a good day! Thursday night I stayed with Harper by myself. We did okay but she was up a lot - so I got about 2 hours of sleep. Last night Scott stayed with us and Harper slept the entire night long!!! She was so good! I'm so thankful that we get the practice of taking care of her in the safety of the hospital so when we go home - we will feel more confident.
Our doctor came in today and said we might take her off oxygen tomorrow and we could also start feeding from a bottle again today. She has been fed through a nose tube because her breathing has been a little too high but she is slowing down. This is me giving her first bottle - she took it really good. She took two feedings well - but her last two haven't gone so smooth. It's a slow process - but we are making GOOD progress!

Both sets of grandparents were here this weekend so Harper got a LOT of attention. She is a very loved baby - by both her family and all of you!!! We got the cutest outfit and hat for her that she will have to wear soon and the hat says "miracle". I'm wearing a necklace today that another blogger sent that says "miracle" - that is just what she is to us. Thank you God for this precious gift!
We got her a CD player with speakers for her crib yesterday and we have been playing praise music for her all day today. She loves it! I'm hoping God will give her the gift of music (it won't come from us so it will be a miracle if she CAN sing!)

Hi Kelly,

I am a friend of Rachel Harrison's up in the Northwest. I have been following your story and praying my hardest for your family. Our little girl was born in August and we also spent some time in the NICU and then the children's hospital (not nearly as long as you guys). I feel so connected to you as you give updates because I remember how exciting and scary each step was. The first night we were all able to stay in the Children's hospital, Zoe stayed up all night but I didn't care because we were all together in the same room and I didn't have to leave. I had to laugh when I read your comment about the cords and wanting to pick her up wihtout them. My husband and I were so happy when those stupid cords were finally gone. Of course then we were worried because we couldn't physically see her heartbeat on the monitor anymore. You understand it's a love hate relationship with the monitor. Anyway this message has gotten really long but I will be praying for you and it will sound weird but I love you and your family so much!

Aww...she continues to get more and more precious! It was funny because I have been checking your blog daily for updates and where there wasn't one for nearly two days *gasp* :) I started to get a little worried. So happy that things continue to go well! What a miracle!

Dearest Kelly, I too found your blog on accident, but now I know that God brought me to you for many reasons. I too am from Arkansas (Little Rock), and I love all things Southern, especially SEC football and the Razorbacks! I live in Nashville, TN now and love it, but I miss home sometimes. I want you to know that I will pray earnestly and often for Harper, for you and your husband, and all of your family. I do not yet have children of my own (hopefully, it is in God's plan someday soon), however in 1973, I was born early, at the end of the 25th week, and weighed 2 lbs. 2 oz. The doctors told my parents that they did not expect me to live. Through much prayer, many wonderful doctors and nurses at St. Vincents in Little Rock, the support of my friends and family, and a fighting spirit, I made it through and enjoyed a completely normal childhood. I am now 35, hoping to have a family of my own, and I am thankful everyday for all that was done to help me and my family during that difficult time (I was in the hospital for 3 months). Harper is so beautiful and I know you are enjoying every minute you spend with her. She can feel that love and will respond to it. Hang in there - you are an inspiration to many!

She is gorgeous! Praise God for every blessing each day! I remember feeding my daughter a "bottle" in the NICU the first time. It basically consisted of a syringe with a nipple on it - I was so excited to do it! We'll keep praying for your miracle...

I, too am thrilled with the latest update! You guys are all doing such a great job.

BUT!! Next time you have a computer problem, PLEASE don't give us a headline like "Technical Problems"! Maybe use "Computer Died" or something like that.

My poor heart almost quit on me when I saw that headline and then had to wait on my ever-so-slow computer to bring up the rest of your page! The relief felt amazing - but please don't make me panic again! :-)

Nothing can replace a great mommy and daddy . . . they let anyone be a parent - only special folks get to be mommy and daddy!

Dear Kelly,
God is so AWESOME!!! Harper is just so precious, and I know God has very special plans for her. We continue to pray for her and for your family. My nephew was diagnosed with a very rare virus called Transverse Myelitis this past year which caused paralysis from the neck down. The power of prayer is AMAZING - after three months of being in Children's Hospital and Baylor's Children's Place, Landon can walk with a walker and continues to improve. Please feel free to visit his caringbridge one day when things settle down...www.caringbridge.org/visit/landonlight. He loves visitors, too. One day Harper can look back on your family's blog messages and see the incredible works of the Lord. It has really helped Landon's spirits, as well as our entire family. We are just so thankful to hear Harper is doing well. She is a little doll!!!
Many continued prayers from Heath, TX, Laurey West

Oh Kelly, I came home from vacation last night and the first thing I did this morning when I turned on the internet was check on Baby Harper, oh Kelly, she is just gorgeous! I have tears going down my face getting to see her beautiful eyes and you are holding your beautiful little girl! Praise God! I am so thrilled for you! Prayers for you and your wonderful loving family!

Great to hear of Harper's improvements. Equally great to hear that she is on your milk. Bottle preference and nipple confusion can be introduced at this stage, so I would advise dropper, cup or syringe feeding instead of the bottle to ensure as much as possible that your nursing relationship will be successful.
