Happy One Week Birthday to Harper!

One week ago today - we got up at 4 a.m. and got ready for the biggest day of our lives. We took this picture of my belly right before I left. Little did we know there was an almost 10 pound baby in there!!!!! Of course - I never dreamed all throughout the day that it would have turned out like it did. I thought I would be holding my little baby soon after delivering and we would all look and admire her and then take her home in her perfect white dress the next day.

God's ways are not our ways.

Last night I received an e-mail from a lady who accepted Jesus as her savior after finding my blog last Friday and praying for Harper which led her to re-open her Bible for the first time in years. Every second of the last week has been worth it for that fact alone. And we truly mean that.

And we are so blessed. We got here this morning and I almost started jumping up and down in the NICU because Harper is at 43% oxygen!!!! She is doing SO well and I swear she looks prettier today than she did yesterday.

Here she is with both her proud grandmas!!! This poor girl is going to be spoiled rotten.

P.S. Jennifer N. in NC - I got your beautiful flowers!!! And we took them to share with the RM house! Thank you so much!

I'll try to do a few more updates throughout today when I get time!

I just fund your blog a few days ago. I was asked to pray for you by another blog that I read regularly. I stopped and prayed immediately before I really understood what was happening. I have shared your blog with many others to ask for their prayers as well. I'm so excited to witness this miracle God is working in your life. Please know that you, your dear husband, Harper, and your dog are in my prayers.

Kelly & Harper-

Our prayers continue for you all from Colorado! One of my blogging friends had a link to prayer for Harper and that is how we found your site. I just done having an extremely high risk pregnancy where we had to continually fight fears that our little girl wouldn't be okay or make it. We are living proof that God is GOOD! She is doing great now. We are believing that Harper will continue to improve and that she will be home much sooner than originally predicted. May God give you His strength and rest!

Much love-
Craig, Diana, Bailey and Alexis

I thought of you as I awoke. How one week ago you were entering a day full of anticipation and innocence. Also with a belly FULL of baby!! One week later, you are finding new mercies each day. Just enough to get you through today - don't have to worry about tomorrow and save any. Isn't it amazing? Sometimes the Lord works through our 'smallest' blessings.....Harper is already a missionary.

Kelly,

From the moment I heard sweet Harper was sick, my mind went to the story of the man born blind.
"As he passed by he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither he nor his parents sinned; it is so that the works of God might be made visible through him." John 9,1-3
Thank you for sharing how His works are being made visible through Harper! She's so wonderful & beautiful!

I've always believed that it's in our weakness that God shows his strength (afterall, that's what we learn as toddlers in "Jesus Loves Me"). Boy, what immense power He has shown through little Harper. My God is still in the miracle business, and that's such a huge praise!

I've been so touched and inspired to see how your family, in the midst of your own crisis, could step outside of the situation and offer encouragement, hope, and prayer to others. Our God is a God of grace and mercy, and those qualities are shining through in your family.

I also have to say that largely because of your blog, my family decided to visit FBC last Sunday. We are looking for a church home anyway, as we're somewhat new to the area. But after reading your posts from this week and last, I really kept saying to myself, "I've HAD that (in a church family)... and I want it back."

Your transparent posts and inspiring faith has touched more people in more ways that you'll ever know. Despite the heartache you've experienced this week, thanks for continuing to be a vessel for the Holy Spirit to work through. I hope one day soon I'll be able to meet you and give you a hug of thanks in person!

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, a plan to prosper you, not harm. A plan for hope and a future!
Hebrews 4:12 For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any double edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
GOD IS WHO HE SAYS HE IS
GOD CAN DO WHAT HE SAYS HE CAN DO
WE ARE WHO GOD SAYS WE ARE
WE CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST
GODS WORD IS ALIVE AND ACTIVE IN US
WE ARE BELIEVIN' GOD!!!!
I'm pumped about GOD and will be for the rest of my days!

You're so right, His ways are not our ways. He's writing a beautiful story for Harper and for your family, thank you so much for sharing it with all of us! I've been reading your blog for a while now, we met several years ago through Hillary. I'm praying for you, Scott, and Harper...and for all of the people that come across your path through this story. I'm expecting our first baby in 7 weeks, and have just been praying that God would tell His story through our little boy too. We of course pray for health and safety, good sleeping habits and eating habits, and all of those things that new mommies worry about...but ultimately I know our baby boy is in his FATHER's hands. I would never want to change that, its the safest place to be. Dangerous, risky, difficult sometimes, but good.

Blessings to you.

Kelly, you just amaze me every day with the beautiful spirit that you have! Happy one week birthday to your precious Harper!

To think that this story is bringing so many people back to Him. I know it has helped me tremendously as I yearn to get back to Him and know Him better. What a testimony to faith and the power that our prayers really do have. I admit that I had been questioning God lately, before this happened. I was asking Him if He was really there....did he really hear me? And then this happened with Harper and I saw our prayers being answered and how strong you all were, and it was as if He was telling me, "Yes, I'm still here"

I can't tell you how amazing this walk has been to me, so thank you for allowing me to be a part of such a wonderful story of God's love. Your example has been what has made me want to be a strong Christian woman!

I am praying every day for your family and the other families there. God bless you and I can't wait until the day you get to hold your precious little girl!

Like you, Kelly, I assumed our first born would come in to this world with no complications. After all, our family histories and my perfect pregnancy gave me every reason to believe I deserved that perfect baby. Soon after his birth, I was quick to realize that it's God who is in complete control, not I. While a surgery fixed the defect, he will live his life with social, developmental, and academic challenges. Our dreams for his future, however, have not been shattered ... just altered. He is unique. He is our son, our gift from God.

You have been blessed with a sweet girl for a whole week now. You are Mom forever! And you will love every minute of it, even when life throws you a few curve balls...

Yesterday is history
Tomorrow is a mystery
Today is a gift
That's why it's called the PRESENT!

Praying many "presents" are heading your way!

43%!!! Praise Jesus. I can't wait to see her big, beautiful eyes, wide open! Happy One Week Sweet Harper! Kelly, you have had such a graceful honesty throughout this whole ordeal and it has really encouraged me. I have been praying for Harper all throughout each day, and it has helped me get back into the habit of "praying without ceasing," and the Lord has reminded me of many other things I need to be praying for daily that I've neglected. You know, Harper is not going to remember any of the pain and heartache of this time, but what a sweet foundation she will have to build her life upon. She will hear of the miracles and stories and prayers of the first weeks of her life and she will have such a heritage! Her memories of this part of her life will only be the sweet blessings, the amazing love, the overabundant grace of God. She is such a blessed baby to be shown the power of God, her God, her Creator, so early in life! Continuing to pray...

Kelly and Jenna,
Each day when I read your blogs my eyes fill with tears. Not for what you are going through - though I pray for you daily - but for how God is using your two families and your little ones to reach others. I also can't help but to think of the day when you both get to take both of those babies to your church. And with the way they are improving, it doesn't sound like that's too far off. I just can't imagine the rejoicing there will be in your church when those two healthy babies get to go. And what a connection Harper and Brayden will have starting out their lives. Praying for all of you from Jonesboro.

when i read your post a week ago about harper i asked god why? i couldn't believe he might take your baby after you'd waited so long for her.

then i read your dad's post and i realized you all are there for a reason only god knows. he has you there for a reason and hearing about this woman's salvation makes me more sure of it.

i told your story to my girls last night to emphasize the power of prayer and the way god works in our lives even when we can't see it.

you're an encouragement!

I heard about you all through Angie's website. Just wanted you to know your family, especially sweet Harper is in our prayers. My heart aches for you as I know what it is like to have your baby swept away from you shortly after being born and not being able to go with them. But I also know the sweet peace of our Heavenly Father that sweeps over you in moments like this. One day you will look back on all of this as a faint memory, one that completely re-shapes who you are as a person, and as a child of God. I will be reading faithfully and praising the Lord along with you with every piece of good news. The fact that someone has come to know the Lord through Harper's life is such a testament to the purpose her life holds.
Your sister in Christ,
Lisa

In some ways Harper's story sounds so much like my little Jonah. I never dreamed I would go home from the hospital without him....but God is so amazing and has an incredible plan for ours lives! During his stay in NICU I learned so much about myself, about my husband, about our love, about being a mama and about the community that enveloped us when we needed it most.

I'm continuously praying for you and your beautiful family.

Kelly, I keep checking the blog throughout the day and am so excited when there is an update especially with pictures! Can you fill us in a tiny bit about Harper "activities"? What I mean is, do they have her sedated so she'll not fight the treatment, or does eh move her little arms and legs? Just wondering if you are getting to see those little toes wiggle yet. Also, maybe I missed it somewhere, did you get to hold her after her birth and see her little eyes? or did they swoop her off? I hope it's okay to ask these things, and I apologize if I missed any details somehow, but I have read every word! I am sure there are others wanting every little detail about Princess Harper! Much love to you all!

Ok. I just came across your blog - so you've never heard of me.. but when i read this my heart just sank. I know the feeling of going full term, having your baby, thinking you would come home the next day and then it doesn't happen that way. My baby boy's lung collapsed when I had him and we stayed in the NICU for 10 long, excruciating days. While I was happy to have my baby, it was a dark time for me because like you, I went through "what if we never take him home?" thoughts. It was glorious moments to watch the oxygen levels be turned down and for him to breathe completely on his own. God knew what he was doing though - even though I truly thought I was alone at the time. God knew.. I have never, not once taken that baby for granted. We will celebrate his 3rd birthday in March, but reading your blog makes it feel like it was yesterday. God is good and HE is there holding Harper in HIS arms. Thank you so much for telling your story and keeping us updated. Y'all will be in my prayers.
