Cold Icy Day outside - WARM day inside

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!

As soon as I posted - the nurse came out and got us and said she had eyes open and to come see her!!!!
I cried so hard when I saw this!
I'm sure she was thinking "my momma is crazy - all she does is cry"
This was such a special moment for us - we got in on video and on film
She gripped her daddy's finger - she knows we love her!

It is a cold day outside full of ice and sleet. It looks like we will be iced in here tomorrow! Luckily we are staying right next to the hospital. It's been a pretty quiet day but we got a lot of sweet cards and packages and we enjoyed looking at those. I wanted to share a few things with you. We are so grateful for the outpouring of love to us!

I got this sweet package from Footprints Ministry in AL - they send these to NICU patients and there were all kinds of neat goodies inside.
I got this neat basket from the Butchers in SC - they make these baskets and send them to NICU patients - there were the cutest things in here like Mary Jane socks and a bow headband and a rattle and blankets. You can see there website here.
This wonderful girl, Christina and her son Parker came to visit us today!!! We were so glad to meet them!
Cindy and Liberty Matthews heard about Scott promising Harper a pony - and she found this onesie and sent it to Harper - isn't it perfect??????
I got this precious necklace and these Paci clips ( are they not the CUTEST) from Brittany. I love them!!!!
And Brandi made me this necklace - you better believe I'll be wearing it!!!!
We went and ate lunch today with some other NICU parents. They are really sweet and have twin girls in here. It was nice to visit and have some friends in the same boat. (Well kind of - Harper weighs twice both of their girls put together - but you know what I mean).
Okay - you are probably wondering about a Harper update. You may notice in the pictures that my eyes are pretty swollen. I have cried a lot today. But they have been HAPPY tears!!! Harper is now on a regular ventilator - not an oscillator - which is WONDERFUL news!!!! HUGE! They have started waking her up and we just went in and saw her move her little fingers and toes and mouth. I can't tell you how exciting seeing those little feet move is to us!

We have never asked "why" about Harper. Not once. We believe everything happens for a reason. And that has been confirmed again to us today - I got THREE e-mails today from people who got saved because of the story of this little girl. Not because of me or Harper - but because of God working through us. Is there anything better in the whole world than that???? Keep praying - not just for Harper, but for the other families in NICU's everywhere, and for people's lives to be changed.

What a blessing! To be able to touch so many lives, and know that all the trials that you are going through right now will be all worth it when you are home taking care of that special baby. Those lives may never had come to know Jesus as their savior if it weren't for your precious little girl. I will be praying for you all and precious Harper!

has anyone noticed the "label" on one of the cords going to harper's tubes? i'm sure it means something medicial, but every time I see it, I read it "LIVE". You can see it really good in the picture with Scott in this particular post. i've noticed it several times over the past couple days.

Kelly, you continue to be amazing. I can imagine that your sweet baby was just excited to hear your voice as you are to see her eyes.

wishing you rest and comfort tonight.

PRAISE THE LORD! I am so glad to see those beautiful eyes! So happy for you!

I have been praying for you all every since I read your story the day after Harper was born.

I work in a NICU at a children's hospital, and I am just noticing that your little one still has her umbilical line in after 10 days. Please question the doctor about his plans to remove it, because after 7 days, risk of infection is elevated.

If Harper is not able to be supported on IVs until she is on full feedings, they will probably insert a PICC line which is quite normal in our NICU and is quite safe.

Please ask them about this, because I would hate to see an infection impede her progress.

Harper is absolutely gorgeous, and her progress is quite amazing.

Many blessings, Melissa

I know you've been deluged with new posters but I read Angie Smith's blog and found you that way this past week.

1. I love your blog and have been praying for you and Harper and your dh. She is beautiful and the pictures of her sweet little eyes open today made me cry. What a blessing!

2. I grew up in the Tulsa area and though we are a military family we still call Oklahoma our "home" and can't wait to move back there. My niece was in the NICU at St. Francis for a bit and I'm glad to know Harper is in such a great place with wonderful people taking care of her. We are currently in South Carolina and not missing the ice storm you (and all of my family) is experiencing!

3. We went through 4+ years of infertility. God is Who kept me upright through that journey and I'm so thrilled to be able to say I have two wonderful gifts from heaven...Matthew age 7.5 (don't forget the half!) and Nathan who will be 3 in a couple of weeks. They are worth every moment of our journey to parenthood so I understand a lot of what you've gone through. From one mommy to another, congrats and I know you are enjoying being her mommy already. Isn't it indescribable? :)

4th and last, please know I will continue to pray for sweet Harper. Today is my birthday (geez I am 38 though I don't feel it!) and I will send many healing prayers from one January girl to another. :)

Bless you and yours. Stay warm and if you have time or need to get out..check out Hideaway Pizza at 51st and Sheridan...the original is in Stillwater where my husband and I went to school (OSU Cowboys..we bleed orange ;) and it's one of our favorite places to go to when we visit family.

Hugs and prayers!

Your latest post makes me so happy to read, you are so inspiring and your regular blogging is helping you guys, your baby and so many others. I worked with babies and their feeding at Ark. Children's Hospital when i was in grad school for speech therapy there..Nicu graduates and I know how difficult it must be when you see others taking care of your baby and you can't do all of it yourself right now. My prayers are with you!

Our son Seth was born having to fight as well...he spent 122 days in the NICU and endured almost 20 surgeries. He came into this world weighing 1 pound and 10 ounces and is now an outgoing, rambuctious 6 year old who loves everyone he meets. God still performs miracles because we get to wake up to one everyday. We will pray for your precious Harper just as so many prayed for our Seth. Prayers work and God is GOOD!! We have infertility and one sweet little boy (IVF) so I was hoping for a girl so we started our adoption and then it all just became overwelming so we cx'd it. My faith has never been so "Off" but reading your blog has to give one hope that there is a reason to all this. I am so happy that Harper is doing better, you and Scott are wonderful people and harper well be a blessing to many. Thank you. Trayce SA, TX

I am soo happy things are going well for Harper. My daughter was born almost two years ago, she was fine and then we were being pushed to the next room and she started turning blue... next was 11 days in the nicu... I remember trying to will things to happen and then I just relaxed and realized that we were on Gods time and things would happen as they should. I had three others at home, so it was difficult... but just like you, I thought I knew everything about my husband and loved him more than life, but those 11 days I even grew to love him more... he was my rock, and for the kids at home. Just remember when you get home things will happen so quickly, take time to enjoy it, as I know this experience will change you for the rest of your life. God bless you all!
