Another Great Day in the NICU

Here's our family of three (Harper Looks thrilled to be with us, huh? ha!) We had another good but busy day. I'm afraid I'm getting worse and worse at replying to (and reading) e-mails and you can see my blog post is coming extra late tonight. Now that our little pumpkin is awake and alert and feeding - we are trying to spend as much time with her as we can - plus we had a parenting class today. So if you don't hear from me - I love you and I'll try to get to you as soon as I can - but I am a momma now - and she takes first priority!!! (Can you blame me?)
Harper had a good day! She got all of the tubes out of her belly button. She was weaning off her pain meds so she got a little cranky today. We finally heard her cry! She sounds like a little lamb when she cries. It made us laugh. She was easily soothed with a little food or a paci.
This is our lactation specialist, Tina. (or as we like to call her - "Lac-tina". ha! She is SO nice - she helped us nurse this afternoon and Harper did pretty good. (She is not choking Harper - just burping her!) She was mad as a hornet at first and turned red and cried. We know we have to be patient. We bottle fed the rest of the day because she got so worked up - she was breathing a little hard and I want her to be able to breathe well so we will try again tomorrow!
Harper got moved to a cute pink crib today! She also got to wear clothes for the first time. Tomorrow I'm going to take her something cute to wear. This was me sad when she was throwing a fit. I wanted to scoop her up and kiss her all over. (I eventually did).
This sweet girl, Amy, came and saw me today and brought me the cutest note cards I've ever seen in my life that she made. SO thoughtful!!!! I got SOOOO many cute things in the mail today. I wish I could put them all on here but it might get out of control. I can't believe how nice all of you are. You REALLY don't need to send me things.........but I know it is all sent out of love and I can't express how much it has touched me.

Please pray for my friend Amy. She has a one year old girl and is expecting twin girls - Molly and Ruby. She is due the end ofApril but started having contractions and dilated today. They have given her medicine to stop it but I'm so worried. I've spent the last week looking at tiny babies and I'm praying her girls won't join that club.

P.S. Harper weighs 10 lbs and 9 oz! I love her so much!!!!

my cousin has a blog and was kind enough to show me yours, for we have something in common. 1st of all we both gave birth on January 16th to beautiful baby girls, both named Harper. Both who have been transfered to other hospitals and in the nicu. my little girl right now is in surgery to fix a coarctation in her aorta and a pulmonary band placement. we still haven't heard anything from them and we are so worried. this is the first of two surgeries. our little harper will have to undergo open heart surgery in the future, they will send her home in about a week or so (if everything goes well) in order for her to grow. the surgeon would like for her to be at least 6mths or older before doing the open heart surgery for the hole in her heart. i read most of your blog and we totally understand what you are going through. we also feel very blessed especially after seeing the more unfortunate babies in the nicu. we will be praying for your little harper as we pray for our own. both are beautiful baby girls and have been overwhelmed with all the prayers that have been sent our way through abby's blog. please check out her blog to see details about our little angel and i will keep a check on yours. my prayers are with you. dang Kelly! I can't believe how much she has gained all things considered. It would be normal for her to just be back up to birth weight, and in a bigger baby... it'd be normal if she weren't even back up to that yet!

Kelly,
I just found your blog from a friend's blog. I'm a pharmacist at WCWH, but am out on maternity leave. I wish I could have met you while you were there. I'm praying for Harper and your family. You have been such an inspiration! Harper is absolutely adorable and I hope you get to bring her home soon.

Thank you, God, for the sweet miracle that is Harper. You are all so blessed, and deservedly so. One word of advice ( all right, maybe a coupla words) from a mommy and grammy. Do, indeed, keep up with the nursing. BUT, if it is not to be---don't beat yourself up about it, and go full tilt with the options. Bottom line : It's all about a healthy, happy baby!!

What a beautiful little girl - her chubby little cheeks and her big eyes - you would never know there is anything wrong with her. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you that Harper goes home real soon and you can all be together at home.

God Bless

Kelly,
I am still hoping to make it to the hospital before you guys leave, but I picked up a cold last week so I know you wouldn't want me around. :( I have been praying that nursing will go well. I'm not sure if you started today or not, but hang in there whenever you do! I hope to see you soon, Dana
