What's For Dinner?

I don't have a lot to blog about this week because we have been snowed in since Saturday. I'm trying not to lose my mind. I know many of you live "up North" and laugh at the fact that 2-3 inches of snow can shut the South down. But it does. We received 3 inches of snow Saturday night and it closed Church and school has been out the last two days and is closed again tomorrow. We are supposed to get another 2-3 inches on Wednesday night so I'm thinking it will be at least Saturday before I get out of this house. (Can you tell I'm getting stir crazy?)
Anyway - I'm going to get up tomorrow morning and get dressed and put on make-up no matter what. I have been hanging out in PJ's and sweats and I am just starting to feel shlumpy. I'm going to dress up Harper too. And take some pictures. ha! And I haven't had a Sonic coke since Saturday and I'm trying not to shake. (I'm totally kidding). (kind of).
In the meantime - I have a question for you. Harper is totally on table food and I'm very lucky because she will pretty much eat anything but I'm sort of in a slump of what to feed her. She mostly eats carrots, peas, sweet potatos, grilled cheese, macaroni and cheese, peaches, pears, bananas, and mandarin oranges. But I feel like we just eat that over and over. Sometimes I give her turkey or chicken. And also yogurt and/or oatmeal for breakfast. I know there are websites that will give me ideas but I want to hear from REAL MOMS. So what do you feed or did you feed your one year olds? Clearly she also likes oreos but I'm trying to stay away from those. ha!

Any new ideas for me?

Oh and P.S. Congratulations to my sweet friend Angie on having baby GIRL #5 and a happy ultrasound today!!!!

Thank you Kelly for asking this! I had a little girl, Ellis Kate a month after Harper. EK is refusing baby food, but with only 1 tooth....I'm limited. This will help me out greatly!!

audrey (11 months) likes cottage cheese, lunch meat, toast, pancakes, and those are just what i can think of off the top of my head. i feel the exact same way that i am feeding her the same meal over and over!

I'm not a mommy yet, :( but a friend of mine has a 6 month old who loves mashed avocado. What about corn or steamed broccoli? Oh and don't forget green beans! (They are actually not bad cold, right from the can.)

I used to make a batch of pancakes with some sort of berry and applesauce and freeze them. I'd pull one out every other day or so and my daughter always loved them!

I have a 14 month old and she eats just about everything. I will sometimes make pork chops with dijon mustard mixed w/mayo and stove top baked in the oven along w/a veggie. Also, tacos minus the shell instead I give her some rice. I will enjoy reading your comments looking for some new things my daughter as well. LOVE reading your blog Kelly!!!

My son LOVES those Uncle Ben's bag of rice that you can toss in the microwave for 1:30. He LOVES rice in general and will eat it all the time if we let him :)

Hopefully you will be able to get out of your house soon! I bet Sonic is calling your name!

I have been a Toddler Teacher for 7+ years and I must say Ravioli day tops them all!! It's a mess to clean up, but well worth it to see the little ones eat so good.
I usually just strip them down to their diapers and let them dig in!

Hi Kelly!
I feed my two kids (1 and 3) pretty much everything we eat. Except nuts or any other choking hazards or thing too tough to chew. I think it is important to expose them to all foods. You are lucky Harper is such a good eater.
He oreo post the other day was hilarious!!!

I'm in the same boat as you. My little ones are eating table food and I feel like I feed them the same things over and over again.
Breakfast - mini pancakes, french toast sticks, oatmeal, toast with jelly, toaster strudles,breakfast bars, and fruit (blueberries...they will put an entire package away in one sitting, oranges, bananas, strawberries)
Lunch/Dinner - cheese, ham, turkey, chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, carrots, greenbeans, sweet potatoes, yogurt, fig newtons, grilled cheese, cheese toast, noodles, crackers, and sometimes jello! It's hard trying to think of things they can eat. And then, I will make something for them to try and it's thrown on the floor!
Good luck trying to not go crazy! The COLD weather is heading our way Thursday and I'm not looking forward to it! Oh, when you make the transition to whole milk, try adding a little childrens yogurt drink to it and she will LOVE it! If you find any great things to fix, please share!!

As a 1 year old, Craig loved avocado, green beans(just from the can), and cottage cheese(such great protein). We also found yummy healthy chicken nuggets that we bake in the oven. And of course, tortellini or ravioli. I aim for the ones with cheese in them...a little less messy. Melons are a great fruit, too...not too hard and still sweet. Good luck! Harper is so sweet. We just love looking at pictures of her each day. Have fun with your almost 1 year old!

I think this is the age where Cheerios in milk became a favorite (she eats this every day just about). Strawberries, cinnamon raisin bagels with cream cheese in small pieces, black beans are an absolute favorite (she could eat a whole can if I let her), right now corn from frozen mixed vegetables are a favorite too!

Reagan just turned 1 on 12/16 and she eats alot of what Harper eats day in and day out! I also do cut up hot dogs, waffles, she loves green beans. I know there is more but I cant think of anything right else right now!

My 15 month old eats applesauce, scrambled eggs, cheese squares and crackers. I feel like I am in a rut too. . .I look forward to reading the other's suggestions.

butter beans are my sons fav. sweet potatoes are good. i do bananas a lot for breakfast for him. cottage cheese is good. even mushrooms! i try to mix it up too and sometimes it's tough. you can buy a pre-made fresh fruit bowl at publix that has a good mix in it :)

I was just about to post on the same thing. This would be a great help for many of us! I do so much better at breakfasts than suppers. I love adding an egg to a package of grits and microwaving for one minute. Sometimes I add cheese too. French toast. Farina (sort of like cream of wheat.) Pastina (little tiny pasta stars). I cut up grape tomatoes, cucumber and pieces of fresh mozzerella cheese (that you buy in the deli section) and add a tiny bit of Italian dressings.

It seems like she has fruits and veggies covered so why not try some meats? Things like meatloaf, hamburger/cheeseburger bits (all of these things in small, easy to digest pieces of course!, shredded pork, etc. Also ravioli, piergoies, and when she is able try scrambled eggs. I have a very picky 3 1/2 yr old son who eats nothing green but loves meat! hopefully his 3 month old sister will eat both! good luck!

i don't have much advice as my 2 and a half year old won't eat much at all these days except mac n cheese and PBJ HA! if you run out of things to post, you could fill us in on those "projects" you mentionned you were working on and do you have any updates on harper's bday and that adorable scrapbook stuff you bought? i'm curious to know what you are making :-)

Kelly, I have a 9 month old...she is only eating table foods/finger foods. She will eat steamed broccoli, carrots, peas....chicken (rotisserie is very easy to chew), avocados, rotini noodles with marinara sauce, potatoes, cheese, but her faves of course are the graham crackers, puffs, baby cookies...and I am SURE if she could get her hands on an oreo she would be very excited! LOL

Many moons ago when my youngest of 1 (and she had no teeth) she insisted on "real" food - never ate anything in the Stage 3 Gerbers and barely any Stage 2's. She would eat anything we ate that was soft enough for her to chew. Hamburgers, fries, french toast, cheese, waffles, rice, potatoes, hot dogs - cut into quarters per round, nutrigrain bars, all kinds of dry cereals, oatmeal, oreos :}, all fruits even watermelon, cheese curls were also a fav in limited quantities.

Sorry! I can't remember everything as it has been 14 years....now I feel old :}

i have a breakfast food...when mine were little like Harper they loved NutriGrain bars in apple, strawberry, and blueberry. They were good for em', and they loved em' but now they don't cause I think they got sick of them. HA!

I feed my one year old anything I eat, really! He loves love loves fruit, so don't forget about strawberries, grapes, blueberries (his favorite). There's always string cheese, apple sauce, and deli meat from the deli counter sliced thick so she's less likely to choke, pancakes, or toast. It can be hard coming up with things, I think we all get in a rut with what our kids eat!

My son would eat anything I put on his tray. I tried to give him as close to what we were having for dinner as possible. Also, fruity oatmeal, grill cheese sandwhiches, anything pasta...just some ideas:)

I have a 6 year old, a 5 year old, and a 7 month old who isn't on table food yet. I'm drawing a blank! OH NO! I'm just a few months away from this and can't remember what we fed them! AGH! I do remember that they loved soups... chicken and noodle was their favorite. Glad you posted this so that I can get some ideas to refresh my memory! THANKS!

We've just recently gave our 19 month old some of those Morning Star "chicken" nuggets, and he LOVES them! They're the ones that look like chicken, but it's all vegetarian foods. So he getting his veggies and doesn't even know it! He also loved the bean "burger" they make, and we just melted cheese on it and cut it up into small pieces. Maybe Harper would like those!

I will say to get whatever you can in her now!!! Avery ate most anything until18 months. Then she became a stereotypical kid eater, which frightened me as I am not picky at all. Try ravioli, tomato soup with crackers, also pot roast with potatoes and carrots, but I put the meat in food processor to mince it up real good. She also loved hashbrown casserole (of course really soft potatoes). It will seem mondane until about about 2 years old. Then you can open the door to most of the southrn dishes we would normally cook just probably a milder version. Good luck!

You can try sneaking healthy things like avocado, tomatoes and chicken/turkey into the grilled cheese. Same with quesadillas. I also make little meatballs with turkey and hide spinach and wheat germ in them. Then just freeze and heat when we need them! Also, smoothies are a great way to get fruits in, if she can suck well.

One of my sons favs is a sandwich: two pieces of whole wheat, slice of thin turkey, slice of cheese....trim crust...."smush" (helps it stay together when you cut it and when they are eating)it together and cut it into small square pieces. (He likes it this way because he can feed himself.) There is a Cinnamon Chex Mix (Whole Grain Cereal) that he loves as a snack too!

I have a 21 month old and he loves turkey/cheese wraps (no tortilla) cut into pinwheels! He just gobbles them up...he also loves pretty much anything dipped. We give him small chicken pieces with a little bit of sweet and sour sauce to dip into and he thinks it's the BEST! Lasagna is also a must around our house. I cut it into squares...he sometimes eats the whole square or will pick it apart and it the pieces separate.

Can't wait to get ideas from other moms too!

Kelly my 20 month old has been in love with food since she was littler than Harper. We do and did thinks like, home made beans, salmon or any fish, rice,grapes,tomatoes, bananas, chili, any kind sof pasta, ground sausage, eggs, stewed veggies, etc. thats all that comes to mind right now

I have two little girls, my second is 6 weeks older than Harper. We just feed her whatever we are eating at a meal. My older daughter will be three 4 days before Harper. We always gave her own meals until she was 18 months. This time around I am just really careful to cut up what we are eating and give it to her. She just had stomach surgery, so we have to be really careful not to get to big of bites, but most things go over really well. Watch out for the eggs if Harper has food allergies. My oldest is allergic to eggs and we didn't know until she was 18months and had developed asthma.

My daughter likes quesadillas...I take a flour tortilla, a little shredded cheese and the pre-cooked chicken strips, melt it in the microwave and cute into bite size pieces...she loves it!

Oh! I almost forgot... I've just recently found these Quakes Rice Snacks. They're made by Quaker. Similar to the rice cakes (you know the tasteless cardboard that we've all tried when dieting) but they're more like little rice krispy chips. They come in several flavors... Anden's favorite is the Apple Cinnamon and the Cheddar Cheese.

I also use to make my girls "Cold trays". Cheese cubes, lunch meat, oyster crackers, and grapes. My youngest still asks for them for lunch.

I’m not a mom but have a lot of nieces and use to work a daycare with little ones….what about mash potatoes, yogurt, jello (messy but they love it especially when I used cookie cutters and turned it into fun shapes, rice cakes, cheese sticks, to change up macaroni and cheese you could do a little pasta tossed in a bit of melted butter with parmesan cheese….this one was a big hit, blueberries which are not only healthy but will help her work on her fine motor skills as she picks them up, berries in general, avocado a good fat that will that helps digestion, cottage cheese mixed with fruit like pineapple, lunch meat rolled up with a slice of cheese. Hope this was helpful :0) I’m sure you probably thought of most of these already but I thought I would share.

Hi Kelly! My daughter, Riley, is 20 months old and I've been mostly feeding her what we eat since she about 11 months old. For breakfast I usually fed her whole grain waffles or pancakes, cheerios, strawberries, blueberries, mango.I tried to switch it up a lot with fruits and give her a variety. She is LOVING those little clementines right now. I fed her any veggies we ate, she would mainly pick over them, but I still always put it on her plate. For lunches I would give her black beans, rice, chicken, turkey, turkey burgers and some sort of veggies and grain....I started giving her a little fish and eggs around 1 year. For dinner I almost ALWAYS gave her what we were eating, unless it is shellfish or too spicy. She is also very picky and loves meat and carbs (definitely my girl!!), so I've used The Sneaky Chef cookbook and it's worked wonders. It is basically hiding pureed veggies in her mac n cheese, meat, spaghetti sauce, cookies. I know it sounds gross, but you seriously can't tell there is pureed veggies hidden in there!

Carson loved pancakes with just a little butter spread over the top and no syrup and fruit on the side. Also, he LOVES noodles. Blueberry nutrigrain bars are another fav.

Well I am on CHILD/baby number 3 and he is 14 mos. and eating table food too. Try applesauce, pieces of cheese, cut up little pieces of apple. (if she has at least 8 teeth) green beans (did you say that?) and whatever is on your plate for dinner feed her some of that too. HAVE FUN tomorrow dolling up no more shlumpy! LOVE THAT WORD!

My son is 14 months old and these are some of his favorites: Mashed potatoes, Gerber Pasta Pick Ups(ravioli), Yo baby 3 in 1 Meals, steamed veggies cut small (broccoli, carrots, cauliflower), & Turkey dogs. Hope that helps!

Cottage cheese, mini-pancakes, sloppy joe, any kind of fruit cut up small, pudding, mashed potatoes...but, actually, as you have seen with the oreo incident, if she likes it, she will find a way to eat it. Now is the time to give her everything so she will not be picky. Try pizza, chicken nuggets, any of those yummy dinners you make. She can do it! Good luck...besides potty training I always thought food introductions is the hardest - especially with nut-allergy kids like mine!

I have 4 kids -4,3,2 and a newborn. When my older ones were little, they really liked veggie burgers (in the frozen food section). They also liked cheese quesadillas. Another easy meal was cooking bowtie pasta and giving them some sauce to dip it in.

We are in the same boat so I'm glad you posted this. We need ideas around here too! Hayes will be 1 in 2 weeks and is mostly eating table food. The only thing she will let me feed her is yogurt. She's eating the same fruits and vegetables you listed, but we've also given her pancakes (but no syrup and the grandparents think we're crazy), scrambled eggs w/cheese (she LOVES these!) and I made a big batch of blueberry muffins to keep in the freezer and pull one out at a time for mornings when I can't think of anything. She enjoys them! She also loves the gerber cereal bars, deli turkey, and cheese. Hope that helps!!

My 18 month old loves chocolate animal cookies (stoffers) -I get them at walmart - A good substitute for oreos but she still feels like she is getting a treat. Also pancakes in the frozen section of walmart ( not sure of the brand) but they are already made , 1 min 15 seconds in the microwave and you girls are ready to start your day. My little ladybug's new favorite is bojangles mashed potatoes but I would not recommend that for every meal-haha :) Good thing is that I get my sweet tea fix

We don't have any snow here, but it is cold! and with a one month old we have been staying in lots! But today I had to get out and we went to Sonic for happy hour. :)

I have a semi-picky 2.5 year old and he really likes quesadillas. I use one small tortilla and put cheese, and some kind of meat - chicken, hamburger, lunch meat and heat for about 15 sec to melt the cheese. Slice with a pizza cutter into bite sized pieces.

I have an 18 year old and a 4 year old. My 18 yr old would eat ANYTHING we gave her. Whatever we were eating was great. She loved chinese food, any kind of pasta, chicken, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and everything everyone else has already mentioned.

My 4 yr old is a different story! She STILL will only eat a few things consistently. Any kind of pasta, breads of any kind, cereal, most dairy items, peanut butter, and of course anything with sugar in it. No meats, no vegetables, and only strawberries for fruits. Even as a baby I could only get her to eat about the same things. Sometimes she'll eat other things, but one day she will, then she won't ever touch it again. I've become a fan of Flintstones Vitamins, peanut butter (for the protein), and Deceptively Delicious (cookbook). I buy baby food and mix it in so she doesn't know. For example: I can mix in a jar of pureed squash with spaghetti, sweet potatoes with mac and cheese, etc. Not enough to taste it, just a little bit of vitamins! Good luck!!

I told myself the same thing: I'm putting make up on and putting real clothes on tomorrow!
JM eats hot dogs chopped up,fish sticks or lil chxn nuggets. Not the healthiest, but he hasn't been eating meat lately so I take meat when I can!
Also, blueberries or raspberries cut up and sometimes mixed w pudding or yo baby. Strawberries and grapes are good too! Also, for variety I make smoothies sometimes and put tons of fruit in it!
It's a daily struggle coming up with meals!

My older daughter also loved when I roasted a spaghetti squash, shredded it, and served it with some spaghetti sauce.

It's kind of messy, but I also would make stuff like ground beef with either sloppy joe sauce or taco seasoning, toss with some rice and cheese (and black beans if the taco beef). Cheap, easy, and they always ate it well.

Veggie burgers are also something that are easy to make and my girls ate well.

Oh, and scrambled eggs with cheese. My girls both still LOVE them!

Evie is almost 2 but she hardly ever ate baby food. We almost skipped straight to table food. She has always eaten whatever I cooked for us (within reason of course). It is so good to expose them to lots of different things now. We laughed one night when a friend mentioned that their child would only eat chicken nuggets and macaroni because Evie had eaten Tilapia and risotto for dinner. Don't feel like you have to plan just for her. Let her try everything you have.

My son (2) loves green beans, bananas, cereal Special K bars, fruit snacks, and dry cereal. I also make homemade chicken nuggets (cut up chicken breasts, dip in butter, and roll in bread crumbs). You just bake at 350 for about 10 minutes. You can also freeze these and make a lot at 1 time.

Moses loves casseroles. It's the way I get veggies in him. We do lots of pastas and stuff too. At Harper's age he loved steamed veggies as well. Good luck

my kids loved stovetop stuffing...i would take tuna or chicken from a can and pinch a little meat and put it into a ball of stuffing (the meat in the middle and the stuffing surrounding it)...stuffing balls. they are so tiny and soft that they are not a choking hazard. they loved them and still do. i would sometimes "hide" veggies or anything else i wanted them to eat inside of the stuffing balls. quick, can be eaten warm or cold, simple and easy!! win, win, win! :)

I have two little girls, a 26 mnth old and a 14 month old - 1yr & 8days apart!
We feed them both whatever we are eating for dinner. In smaller cut up portions. My 14month old isn't a fan of chicken but will eat beef.
They are both GREAT eaters!!
THey love peas, beans, cottage cheese, apple sauce, canned peaches, fruit cocktail, cut up tomatos, just to name a few.

Go ahead and experiment, if she turns her nose up just keep trying it. They usually come around to a food quickly.

But if all else fails go wit the oreo's! ;o)

My child loves rice!! He also likes waffles and turkey dogs cut the long way and then into pieces to prevent choking. Also brocolli, mashed potatos. He is not a fan of red sauce or pasta so no mac and cheese for us.

I don't know if you've ever tried it, but I like to give my daughter (who is a month younger than Harper) firm tofu cut up into cubes and sprinkled with cinamon. It's a nice snack. Oh and some toast with a little Nutella on it...it's messy, but sooo good. Hope no one's little one's have a nut allergy.
I'm kind of in a slump as well, but beans, fruits and veggies are always so yummy and easy. Plus, I hadn't thought about grilled cheese.

Try cottage cheese, waffles (make up a bunch and freeze them, then just pop them in the toaster one by one as you need them--better than buying the frozen ones!) lots of babies LOVE avocado--mine never did though, LOL!! String cheese was always a hit too!

We might be used to the snow up here in BearCountry but when it's been -10 to -25 for a week there's no playing in the snow anyway.

I really feel bad for you being cooped up in the house without a Sonic drink for that long! I am about to make my second run for today (so not rubbing it in) just letting you know that I suffer from the same addiction. The Sonic down here in Benton had gone up on their prices when I got there today....I was mad but I got over it because....as I said I'm addicted but this habit is getting pricey! Ha! Have fun playing dress up tomorrow!

Anything we eat, that is usually what Cash gets. Like Harper, he loves just about anything.

For breakfast...waffles, french toast, pancakes, dried cereal, biscuits, muffins, etc. I also either feed him a thing of yogurt or a banana.

For lunch...deli meat, cheese sticks (cut into cubes), chicken nuggets, pasta, hot dogs, cut-up sandwiches (peanut butter & honey) fruit, cut-up corn dogs (Sonic's are great :) ) yogurt, cut-up apples, tortilla with melted cheese inside

For dinner...whatever I cook... pasta (with spaghetti sauce), grilled chicken, hamburger meat, beans, peas, corn, yogurt

My one year old also eats waffles and pancakes for breakfast and he loves dry cereal - I feed him corn bran. For dinner he loves roast and steak - he eats pretty much whatever we are having - chili, goulash, etc.

My kids loved and still love (9, 7 and 4) risotto. I finely onion and fry it with small pieces of chicken. Then add any finely chopped vegies. Then add some arborio rice cook for a few minutes then add chicken stock. Allow this to boil then simmer until the water is absorbed. The rice should be soft. It is a healthy meal for all the family and especially good for toddlers feeding themselves with a spoon as the mix remains well on the spoon.

I have a 3 yr. old and a 16 month old and we do a lot of waffles,pancakes, and mini muffins for breakfast. We also do cottage chesse, string cheese, turkey hot dogs and lunch meat cubed up! Pasta is always good you can do a ziti or bow tie that is easy to pick up. Hum... Pizza also you can sneak in a lot of good veggies on a pizza covered in cheese! :) hope this helps!

At that age, my girls ate waffles, pancakes, toast, dry cereal, and various fruits for breakfast. For lunch and dinner, favorites included black beans, cream cheese and jelly sandwiches on thin bread, ham, tortellini, ravioli, and lots of veggies. My pediatrician always told me for the first year avoid nuts, shellfish, honey, and big pieces of food but everything else was free range.

Aside from choking and allergy threats, once my kids were on table foods I just fed them whatever we were eating. Sometimes I'd have to cut it smaller or give cooked veggies if we were eating salad- but this approach insures they are exposed early to a wide variety of foods and I think helps them not be picky. We also have a rule for the adults in our house- no food is said to be yucky and we're not allowed to influence our kids likes/dislikes, I.e. I hate fish/seafood and my husband hates mushrooms, but we still give these to our kids and encourage them to try them etc w/ out mentioning our opinion. Good luck! Seems like Harper is a great eater which is a huge blessing!!!

She's almost 1 you can just feed her what y'all eat. I don't make anything special anymore (mine is 12 months) unless it's something super hard for him to chew and swallow. He will even eat steak with us! Go for it!

i buy those bags of frozen chicken tenderloins and will make up 6 or 7 of them at a time (just marinated in italian dressing). that way they're a good dinner, but we also usually have leftovers in the fridge that i can pull out for lunches too.

pita sandwhiches... cut up some lunch meat and stuff it in a pita along with shredded cheese. microwave for about 20-30 seconds and then cut up in wedges. my knox LOVES them!

anykind of hamburger meat is always good too... burgers, meatloaf, strained veggie soup, hamburger helper type dishes...

homemade pizza is also a winner around here too...

for breakfast we he loves cinnamon raisin english muffins, toated with butter. or those mini eggo pancakes. thin slices of apple...

I always had a hard time thinking of new things to give my daughter Haylee...I found that she ate everything to start of with too and then she got picky with her vegetables. So I found ways to hide them in her food. One her favorites was and still is Cambells Cheesy Chicken and Rice Casserole...I was able to mix in vegetables with Cheese and Chicken! And also I would make my baked spaghetti which is another one her favorites and cook in vegetables like squash, carrots and zucchini and she loved it!
I also make a pasta with bow tie noodles, peas, ham and alfredo sauce and she loved it. This is also pretty good cold suprisingly and is a good snack that doesn't need heating up!
Anyway, hope this helps.
I'm jealous you have snow!! They are calling for it here in NC for Thursday night so I'm hoping for the best...although I'm sure you are a bit tired of it by now. :)

My one year old just about flat refuses veggies unless they're pureed. :( Her big sis was the same. It sounds like you're feeding Harper lots of great stuff! Here are some more suggestions: plain macaroni, waffles and pancakes, shredded cheese, avocado, scrambled eggs. Somebody else posted about the Super Baby Food book -- I LOVE that one, lots of great ideas for healthy baby and toddler food.

My kids always loved mashed potatoes, green beans, a little biscuit and gravy... Pretty much anything we were having that could be mashed up suitable for the little ones. Oh, and if you really want to treat her some special morning fix her some chocolate dumplings. My 14 year old still gets all moony-eyed when I mention chocolate dumplings. :)

Kelly, thanks so much for your blog. I just love reading it! I have a 14 month old, so I completely understand where you are coming from. I feel like I am feeding him the same things too. Not sure if this will be very helpful, but these are some of his favorites:
avocado, peanut butter sandwhiches (I know some people don't give peanut butter til 2..but he loves it), 3 in 1 Yo Baby meals (yogurt mixed with fruit and veggies), blue berries, half dollar sized pancakes, scrabbled eggs.......hope this helps. She is such a beautiful angel!

When my daughter was that age she LOVED black beans! But beware, she will have black beans in her diaper and it will shock you when you go to change her and forgot what she ate. She also loved blueberries, fresh or frozen but they stain terribly so put her in play clothes or have the oxyclean ready when she's done.
I'm a fellow southern girl and have really enjoyed the snow too but like you, I'm ready for warmer weather.

Breakfast: Waffles, scrambled eggs, cereal that has been softened in milk(we've given her LIFE, and Mini wheats so far). Lunch: pieces of lunch meat, multigrain crackers and cheese, spaghetti noodles with parmesan cheese sprinkled on, and diced carrot. Dinner she usually has whatever we are eating minus some of the seasoning. Last night I made your swiss stuffing chicken and she loved it! The stuffing was a big hit.

I have 3 kids and one more on the way, and with my first I catered so much to her, but I learned quick that it's no fun being a short order cook. Now, I just give them whatever we're eating, just altered a bit if need be. Cutting it in smaller pieces, adding ketchup, or taking a little out of the pot before I add the spices.

By age one I pretty much gave our girls anything we were eating, but in tiny bite-size pieces so that they wouldn't choke. I would steam veggies, do pasta with a teeny bit of tomato sauce (messy, but one of their absolute favorites), jelly & cream cheese sandwiches cut up into mini pieces, chicken tenders or fish sticks again cut very small, etc. etc. etc. Good luck!!

My friends 2 year old Walt, who I've kept since he was a baby and who loves to see "Hapa on the puter" is a picky eater but loves hot dogs and corn dogs. We cut them length wise and then into tiny pieces. He also likes any canned pasta and Chex mix and cheese crackers for snacks. Also chicken nuggets, pancakes, and hamburger patty are always winners too. Good luck!

check out www.wholesomebabyfood.com It has some good recipes and menus that are age specific. I also bought "The Baby Food Bible" from Amazon and love it. It has recipes for you to use for your child but then recipes for you to use with the leftovers for the grownups. (like leftover bananas would be banana bread) Hope this helps, my little one has just started solids!

I have an almost 3 year old and a 9 month old so I completely understand on the food variety issue. My kids love chunks of cheese, sandwich meat from the deli (turkey, roast beef, baloney, etc), scrambled eggs, pancakes, fresh pineapple chunks, raisins, cream of wheat, and frozen chicken nuggets. I will also make my 2 year old little pizzas by slicing an english muffin in half and spreading on some spaghetti sauce from a jar and sprinkling on a little shredded mozzarella and pepperoni if I have it. He loves it.

With my girls we have pretty much fed them anything we were eating, once they got to be right about 1. Both girls loved potato soup and chicken and dumplings too. Or even spaghetti. We did lots of fruits and veggies for sure. Pancakes, even without syrup. Any casserole or meatloaf, they both ate them really well. Eggs (just about anyway you could cook them). Mashed potatoes with gravy or gravy and biscuits have always been a hit with the girls. The more you expose them to young the better they will eat for you, without being so picky! When I was an assistant director in the day care, our little guys from age 1 on, were served the same meal as the older kids. So that made me pretty much open up to any food the kids would eat.

My son Elijah love Country fried steak, hotdog, pancakes but I put banana or pumkin with cinnamon in them, green beans, chickpeas(but they are kinda firm), navy beans, beff and bean burritos (no torilla), Bananas, etc. He is 19 months with pretty much a mouth full of teach and can eat anything but I hope that helps.

When my son was Harper's age. I would do the little pancake (eggo makes them they are in the frozen section)along with french toast sticks, fruit bars. I know one of the comments someone said something about the lunchable jrs. Those things are fantastic! And of course ravoli Chef Boyarde makes a bite size ravoli mircowaveable bowl that is super easy. I would cook it then drain all the extra sauce so there is a little less mess. If you are browning hamburger meat for tacos or whatever set alittle aside before you season it.

P.S. you have never seen an oreo mess until you give your child a holiday oreo ( the ones with the red filling) it will make a red ring around your bath tub. That was a once and only once thing and he is almost 5!

My girls loved soup, (you, of course, will have to feed her this :) ), toast, fish sticks, canned green beans right out of the can, sliced berries, mangos, quesadilla, taquitos cut up, spaghettios and little tuna sandwiches cut in small squares. It is great that you are feeding her so many different fruits and vegetables! I did this with both of my daughters and it has made them very healthy eaters. The Dr. can't believe that I have no trouble getting them to eat fruits and vegetables. Good on you!!! Love your blog!

The only problem I have is that he wants to take EVERYTHING we feed him out of his mouth. It drives me absolutely crazy but they say it is just part of learning. Does Harper do that?

Hi Kelly, I am not sure if I've ever commented, but I've been following for over a year! My daughter is 18 months old, but when she was a year old, she was on all table food just about, she loved to eat what we ate. For breakfast, I used to make her scrambled eggs, she loved them and STILL does! Plus, it's so healthy! For lunch, she ate a lot of grilled cheese and mac & cheese, but spaghetti & meatballs were her fav too. Now, that she is older, she just eats small portions of what I eat, but if Harper does well with chewing, she should be able to eat small portions of what ya'll eat, too. Good luck!

okay this is so helpful!!! my 11 month old is severely allergic to eggs which landed him 2 trips to the hospital... so i am now paranoid about feeding him any table food. i read all the labels over and over again but baby food just seems to be the safer route at this point. he loves to eat what mommy and daddy are eating, but with only 4 teeth, that holds him back a bit, too! he does love love love some quesadillas!!!

Trying not to have too repeat suggestions... my 15M old daughter loves the Nutri-Grain (whole wheat) eggo waffles (plain). scramble an egg with a little cheese, microwave it for a minute. For lunch she loves quesadillas... you can find whole wheat ones and i typically slip some lunch meat in there too! And oh my... fishsticks... i really don't like them, but my husband suggested them for my 4 year old son and my ONE year old LOVES them. So every now and then we get those to change it up... i try to get the "better for you" kind... but is there really a fish stick that is "better for you?"

Looks like you don't really need more suggestions - you have tons of comments so far! But here are mine (didn't read all the comments so these may be repeats!). My 20 month old has always eaten pretty much anything too - she's always loved spaghetti especially. Also any pasta "filled" food, she loved to pick up with her fingers and feed herself (a bit less messy if it's not covered in sauce of course!). Meat and cheese cubes, 1/4 meat and cheese sandwiches (though she tended to take them apart and eat them piece by piece), graham crackers, toast, fresh fruit she could pick up with her fingers (blueberries, strawberry pieces, etc). That's about all I can think of right now - hope it helps!

My 16 month old loves the Gerber pasta pick-ups (and so easy bc you can drain out the liquid first and less mess!), any and all cheese, any deli meats, all soft fruits (especially berries and bananas - I also buy a lot of canned/jarred fruit in water (peaches/pears/manderin oranges/grapefruit - soft and easy and keep well), frozen waffles, pancakes, cheerios (esp honey nut), hot dogs, grilled cheese, cheese quesadillas, graham crackers, goldfish, cooked potatoes ... she's not a fan of red meat or a lot of veggies, but will eat broccoli and peas. I like all the suggestions - can't wait to try some new things as I also feel like we are in a rut! I wish I could give her what we eat, but since she eats at 530/6 and I'm usually just starting our meal to eat after she goes to bed, the timing doesn't really work. So I lean towards the quick and easy and things that she can pick up and feed herself while I am otherwise cooking.

My suggestion is this, feed her anything you all eat except for high choking hazard food and high allergy foods. I was always very nervous with my first but the pediatrician said anything goes except for those I just mentioned. My kids ate everything and still do! They are not picky at all. Good luck!

Kate loves pears, string cheese (cheese in general), bread, crackers, yogurt, etc., but eats pretty much what we eat for dinner--chicken, ham, beef, peas, potatoes, grits (thick cheese grits, with a consistency that she can eat by hand, no spoon). She had waffles with us the other day too.

I knowy you have a lot of suggestions, but other things that my girls eat are lima beans, black eyed peas, avocado, apples (sliced thinly so they can take bites), fig newtons, turkey meatballs, raisins, whole wheat ritz crackers, edamame (you can get them in the freezer section). of course, they also love nilla wafers and cookies of any kind. they would go nuts over an oreo! I feel like they eat the same thing too.

We pretty much let our 15 mo. old try anything we eat and she is a great eater! She LOVES broccoli, cauliflower, black eyed peas, chicken, apples, oranges, applesauce, peaches, lettuce(!), zucchini. Also, Gerber makes some great foods for toddlers like cereal bars, fruit strips or sticks, raviolis, etc. These are great b/c they feel like they are either an adult or big kid but they are still their size and nutritious! As long as it doesn't have peanuts or pure honey (according to my SIL who is a pediatrician), they can pretty much try anything as long as they have the teeth to handle it. Good luck!

My son, 19 months, loves chicken fingers and chicken or turkey pot pies. I will heat the pot pies up and mash it all together. He loves it.
He also loves loves spaghetti.
We buy the Tyson chicken fingers in the frozen section at Wally World AKA Wal-Mart.

I laughed so hard at the oreo story yesterday. My daughter would totally do the exact same thing.

Things that she eats and loves that you didn't mention - jelly sandwiches (broken into pieces), graham crackers, smoothies (yogurt/milk and frozen fruit), frozen blueberries, applesauce, beans and she loves any pasta/sauce combo.

Frozen bananas end up with an almost ice cream like texture when they are blended with just a splash of milk or a spoonful of yogurt. My daughter will eat more banana this way than she will fresh. Don't ask me why!

I feel like we are pretty monotonous with breakfast, lunch and snack and then she just eats whatever we're having for dinner.

I have a daughter who just turned one yesterday. She only has 2 teeth but wants so badly to be able to eat everything. I found that making soups or stews (using the slow cooker) is a great way to get both veggies and protein in the form of meat in her diet. Chicken noodle soup (which my husband and I will also eat!) is a favorite. Another dish that I though sounded terrible but she loves was pureed carrots with mashed up black beans. She couldn't get enough. Whole wheat waffles in tiny pieces are great. I've gotten pretty adventurous and tried pretty much all fruits and she loves them all, blue berries, grapes, mango -they have it in the frozen section so you don't have to bother with cleaning it--all cut small of course). I really try to give her leftovers of what eat so she has some variety with different textures and tastes. Hope it helps!

My girls are 21 months and 15 months, and I feel like I feed them the same thing every day too. It is hard to be creative sometimes, esp when one is a pretty picky eater. Favorites at our house include
avocado chunks
blueberries
string cheese
pancakes/waffles/french toast
applesauce
yogurt
pasta (I try to use whole wheat)
peanut butter and honey sandwiches
cooked beans (kidney/pinto/etc)
toast and butter


another thing that my girls love is 'green smoothies' - I blend up baby salad greens or spinach with some kind of fruit - frozen strawberries, an orange, etc and whatever else I have on hand (cucumber, avocado) with a little water in the blender or Magic Bullet. They will drink this with a straw and they LOVE it. I am happy that they are eating some fresh greens, and they think it is a special drink.

I remember being in that slump too and relied on the cookbook "Better Baby Food". It had so many great recipes that my kids loved. Our favorites were their french toast and chicken stir-fry recipes.

I also made a farmer's casserole (egg, ham, cheese) almost every Sunday so they could eat off of that for several days. I would cut off a slice, heat it up, and serve with fruit. It was a lifesaver because they loved it!

Black beans, dark red kidney beans, cheese cubes (cut small), rice, noodles, asparagus tips (fresh, cooked for 4-5 minutes and cut the tips off and give them to her..one of our favorites, apple sauce, turkey...my daughter had 14 teeth by 1 year so we pretty much ate everything! :) But these were and still are some of her favorites!!

I feed our 13 month old whatever we eat! We have no history of allergies, so that helps. Breakfast: pancakes, eggs, waffles, toast with peanut butter, oatmeal.
Lunch: Sandwiches, pasta, etc.
Dinner: whatever we eat! For instance, last night we had Beef Stir-Fry and she ate it up!

Make it easy on yourself, and just feed her what you eat at dinner. :)

I have a almost 4 year old and almost 2 year old. For breakfast, we do scrambled eggs, blueberry waffles, french toast sticks, nutrigrain bars to name a few. My 2 year old will eat cut up muffins too.

For lunch/dinner, I do turkey, cheese, and crackers or pb crackers and a fruit. Also hot dogs and chicken nuggets on days we have sitters. Costco has these things called veggie chips and my kids love them. My kids both love casseroles and they are thick enough that they can feed themselves easily with a spoon ... like poppyseed chicken, chicken pot pie, etc. My son loves cut up meatloaf too.

By the time my daughter was 1, she ate the same meals we ate. Usually it was just the 2 of us for lunch so that's when I would make her favorites. The only change we had to make was on her meats because she still only had 2 teeth on her first birthday! Green beans, mashed potatoes, spaghetti, kiwi, apples (cut up w/no peel), grapes (cut in half), any type of pasta, rice, cheese quesadillas, fish sticks, chicken nuggets. Seriously, just try anything you guys like to eat.

Our little girl Maggie (2 years) has always enjoyed the Gerber graduate meals. They almost look like a toddler little TV dinner...but they say "no preservative, loaded with vitamins...blah, blah". I love them 1. convenient 2. VERY well balanced meal (they all have a carb, protein and veggie). They have about 10ish different varieties and I buy them at any WalMart, target or grocery store.

Maggie still eats one practically every night for dinner with a fruit cup. I feel like it is a great way to give her exactly what she needs, even when her dad and I are eating Wings! Ha!

They are great for on the go too. I just heat it up right before leaving the house and put it in her little monogramed cooler bag.

We also eat alot of Lunchable jr's, bean burritos, cheese quesadillas, cheesburgers and corn dogs. For breakfast we do lots of waffles/pancakes, eggs/sausage, nutrigrain bars.

When my little guy started on table food I gave him green beans,avocado, apple sause (they make pear sauce too), butter beans, sandwhich meat, and nutrigrain bars (that is the only breakfast food he will eat)! He will eat veggie sausage now but he is two and will eat a lot more than he would a year ago! Ravoli is good too! Along with realy person pasta and tomato sauce!

Abby Lu turned 1 on 12/29. She also eats- string cheese, pickles, blueberry waffles, TLC fruit bars (like Nutrigrain), baby goldfish, craisins, graham crackers, kidney beans, green beans, sweet potato fries, cucumbers.... you have lots of options!

my 18 month old loves all foods as well. breakfast its usually mini pancakes or waffles with peanut butter or just plain butter, a fruit usually strawberries (he LOVES), nutri-grain bar or mini fig newtons, he still eats puffs and yogurt melts (he LOVES), cheese toast or oatmeal.
Lunch-cheese, lunch meat, ritz crackers, fruit cup, yogurts, apple sauce, grilled cheese, smooth peanut butter/jelly, Gerber meals(those come in very handy), Gerber ravoli(pasta pickups), mixed vegs, i just buy frozen and cook a cup. lunchables Jr., chicken nuggets
dinner-its usually whatever we eat, spaghetti, chickens, meats, pasta (i cook bowtie pasta its easier to pick up with little fingers), breads, pizza's, anything i cook he just eats. hope this helps.

my LO loves loves loves the morningstar farms veggie patties. you can see the veggies in them! he also loves the veggie nuggets and meatballs. all-beef hot dogs are good, too. tater tots, sweet potato fries, etc.

Have you tried the little graduates? My son loved them. They have one that has mashed potatoes with soft pieces of chicken and carrots. Also at walmart they have green beans, carrots, and peas in individual containers like fruit. You just put them in the microwave and you don't have to worry about opening a whole can of something. Hope this helps!!!

Hi Kelly! I cracked up so hard at Harper stuffing those Oreo's in her mouth, oh my gosh, hilarious! I would recommend Hummous..lots of protein and is healthy. My daughter LOVED Hummous sandwiches in which I cut the crust off and spread Hummous between two slices of bread...she gobbled it up! Good luck with your almost birthday girl...what a fast year it's been, she's so stinkin cute! :O)

I have not been by your blog in a while, sorry. But, I am so glad I found you again, Harper is too cute! First, isn't it amazing that people in the North live with snow all winter and in the South, we shut everything down and the Walmart shelves are bare? Next, you have a pretty good array of food and it is all healthy, I know it gets boring but if she is alright with it, don't add stuff just to add it. You will end up putting not-so-healthy stuff in the mix and regret it later!

I think you are getting some good ideas already, but I wanted to remind you to use this time wisely as you are introducing her to food. Like giving her whole wheat breads and pastas, and lots of veggies. Even if she doesn't like a certain veggie right now, keep trying it every few days. If they start from the beginning eating healthy stuff it helps with the complaints later.
Sounds like you have a great eater!!!!

squashes (all different colors), with seeds removed - butternut was a favorite here

fresh avocado

mashed or refried beans (careful with whole because of the choking hazard)

salsa - I kid you not, my daughter LOVED mild tomato salsa at that age (and still does). It's loaded with good veggies...unfortunately, it can be loaded with salt, too.

applesauce used to induce screaming fits because we couldn't shovel it in fast enough

GRITS! - Girls Raised In The South just hafta eat grits :-)

seedless grapes are good as long as you cut them in quarters...major choking hazard if you don't...and only small quantities because they can cause tummy problems

chopped olives

corn chex/wheat chex/rice chex...easy to self feed, minimal choking risk, flavor variety

cauliflower - cooked and mashed

Some of these things don't sound good at first, but little one's sometimes really like them. If they don't, you can still keep trying a bite now and then, because they often develop a taste for them over time.

Well, I didn't want to duplicate, but I also don't want to read 150 comments! ;o) I have a 2 1/2 year old...and I think she eats the same things every day! Ha!

Favorites:
*scrambled eggs with cheese--I introduced her to this when she turned one and it is by far one of her favorite things.
*cheese, cheese, cheese
*pancakes w/syrup
*green beans (this is still her fave--she picks out the little peas inside, eats those, then eats the outside...lol)
*spaghetti o's (and now they're made with veggies!)
*chicken noodle soup with veggies
*french toast w/syrup
*turkey bacon (though Harper may not have enough teeth to chew on that)
*I think Hallie had Chick-fil-A for the first time when she turned one. Nuggets with ranch...a big hit!

*Hal loves the mini Lunchables (everything is bite sized)

*rice w/butter

My girl loves salsa and guacamole...and really anything with flavor.

I guess you live on one of the roads that just aren't getting cleared? The main roads in NWA aren't that bad, but I don't know EXACTLY where you live and I've heard Bentonville is pretty bad. We drove back home from Little Rock yesterday and went to Wal-Mart today. You might want to just do a Wal-Mart trip if you can...a case of cabin fever is NOT fun! :-)

Try eggs. I know she's not 'officially' one yet, but Colten has been eating them for the last week and LOVES them. Plus, they are FULL of protein. Basically though, he gets whatever we eat. He's not big into chunks of meat (texture, maybe?), so I always have to pair it with mac and cheese or something softer that's on our plate (or I fix some just so he has it).

Honestly, once my kids were eating table food, I gave them whatever we were eating (unless it was just too spicy but my kids like spicy) just cut up into little tiny pieces that they wouldn't choke on.

two? three? years ago we got 15 inches of snow and I still went to work!!

now we're supposed to get some snow weds into thurs and wind, wind is really the only thing that will shut down places here in Indiana. I hate driving in snow, and I even have 4wheel drive.

Here are some suggestions :)

Canned beans of all sorts: kidney, white kidney, pinto, red, black. Canned/frozen corn, green beans and peas, Gerber Graduates treats like the apple pieces, yogurt bites, corn, etc. Cheerios, soft toast, bread, fruit cocktail pieces (natural juice) but we rinse the juice off. Deli meat, sliced cheese in small pieces, raisins and craisins(with supervision) softened potato, noodles with spaghetti sauce, tomatoes, olives, baby goldfish, scrambled egg, blueberries, strawberries cut up, bites of oranges like the Cuties, gnocci, tortellini, steamed and softened broccoli, puffed wheat and rice, rice cakes(some), whole wheat waffles/pancakes, string cheese, oatmeal with fruit.

Hi Kelly,

Try getting some ground turkey and mixing it with a little baby cereal and egg whites (or is it yokes that babies can have allergies to? Whichever it is, use the opposite!). Roll them into small meatball shapes and boil them in a pot of chicken or vegetable broth. Our kids LOVED this! We also started giving our daughter tomatoes at a year and even to this day, she will ask for tomatoes instead of a "sweet snack". We are not big tomato eaters here, but she definitely is and they are SO healthy for little ones! Good luck!

I'm also glad you posted about this dilemma. I have a daughter that is 21 months old and we just discovered that she likes cucumbers dipped in humus. She also likes corn and broccoli bites. They are not the healthiest thing for her to eat, but at least she's getting a few veggies in her!

I feel like we're in a slump too:), but my 16 month old eats pretty much whatever we eat -- she LOVES spaghetti and homemade mac n cheese, and eats a lot of black beans. pinto beans, and broccoli, and toast.
Avocados are my fave baby food...and Mommy food:)

Hey Kelly. I have 3 boys, ages 8, 6 and 6months and a 2 year old little girl. Anyway, I always try to feed my kids the same thing we are eating. There is no way that I could cook everyone their own separate meals so if you just start off doing it that way then you will be in a good pattern. I always want my children to be prepared to be dinner guests in other people's homes and to eat what is set before them. Anyway, you can cut most everything up into small bitesize pieces that are easy to grab. Of course as you know there are some obvious foods that are choking hazards but you can figure that out.

I agree with Loren who commented earlier. Ravioli is always easy. It's messy so just be prepared to take her directly to the bathtub. Just strip her down to her diaper and let her go. Nothing like a quick can of Chef Boyardee.
One of the best tips I ever got was to use my Pampered Chef chopper and use it to cut up the spaghetti noodles whenever we had spaghetti. It makes it easier to grab and then also easier to get on a spoon when they get to that step.

I didn't mean for this to be so long, sorry. I started reading your blog because your daughter was named Harper like mine. And it's a name I haven't heard often.

London is 15 months old and has a mouth full of teeth, she eats pretty much whatever we are having, in small cut up portions. Favorites for her though. Her favorites though are cubed avocado, string beans, cheese, bananas, tangerines, and she loves to have cubed up sandwiches at lunch! We started feeding both of our babies straight off the stove (meaning what ever we ate) around a year. Dylan, my son, is five and will eat anything and everything. So it worked out for us!

Waffles cut into bite-sized pieces or into wide strips that she can work on with her teeth! Toast/English muffin/etc with cream cheese (you can even mix in a bit of jam or mashed/pureed fruit to flavor).
Dice potatoes and roast or cook in a shallow pan w/olive oil (delish!!!)

Too many comments to read all of them, but thought I'd leave my thoughts. Super Target carries a organic frozen baby food called Peas of Mind http://www.peasofmind.com/ They have these great little muffin consistency things with veggies and stuff. At 1 my daughter's favorite things were deli ham sliced 1/4 an inch thick cut into cubes (ask them to cut it for salads), lentil soup, strained vegetable soup, all beans (still loves pinto beans), hot dogs (cut up of course), bologne, and oatmeal (real oatmeal). Don't be surprised if she eventually gets more finicky, I thought I was going to have a super eater and by 18 months she was definitely expressing an opinion about what she would and wouldn't eat. Her absolute FAVORITE food (from probably 15 months on) is a Sonic Corn Dog and tator tots! HA! You can get your coke and she can get a corn dog. You are so lucky to have so many women willing to share their insights!

I only cook one meal, and inevitably, not all my kids ever are happy. We eat ( and I make it work for my baby to eat): tuna hotdish, taco meat--I just give him the meat with cheese on top), pancakes/sausage, chicken, steak, popcorn shrimp, fish sticks, macaroni and cheese,spaghetti, ham/scalloped potatoes, and anything else...he isn't a fan of veggies.

My girl loves GRITS! And I boil lots of eggs...she eats the white's & calls the yellow "egg parts" and throws them to our two dogs. :) She eats tons of raw almonds, raisins, turkey sticks, (she has a milk allergy, so I have to get a little creative) and she loves pnut butter on a spoon.

One of my favorite meals for this age is to buy a can of regular chicken noodle soup. Make sure you buy the real kind, not the Campbell's Chicken and Stars. You want one with those twisty type noodles, chicken chunks, carrots, etc. I would drain the broth off and stick it in the microwave for about 20 seconds to take the chill off and it is done! The noodles and veggies are so mushy and taste yummy and babies/toddlers go crazy for it!!!

I also did the luncheon meat torn into small pieces. My girls still love that.
Also you can buy some cheese ravioli, cook it and serve it cut up into small bites wihthout any sauce.

Enjoy the snow! In SC we are still waiting to see if we will get some this year.

One thing I can remember making my kids was the acini de pepe pasta (little tiny balls) with a little butter. They LOVED it! I did have to feed it to them, but they didn't mind.

BTW - I feel like I feed my kids the same thing over & over at lunchtime and they are 3 & almost 5. It doesn't get better, just different food!

Bennett is 1 and we feed him pretty much what we are having for dinner..is it is "baby friendly." No sushi or anything like that.. He ate roast tonight! I have not found 1 thing he won't eat.

Mine is 13 months and eats anything and everything that would be appropriate for a child her age which is almost anything. I typically cut everything into bite size pieces still though.

I go to the deli and have them slice a few slices of the least rare roast beef or fresh turkey for the week. She hates the packaged kind. Frozen chicken nuggets or fish sticks. Hamburget meat, usually in something like spagetti. If I make a casserole or pasta dish I use rotini or penne and cut that up to her size and often give her some of the sauce or meat too. Sweet potatoes or regular potatoes that I slice and bake for the week. Mac and cheese. I buy the small cans of veggies for her and use those for a couple days as well as offer her the ones we eat too. Same with the fruits in syrup and cut in half usually as well as blueberries and bananas. Grilled cheese. Planning to offer PB in a few months.

A dinner usually consists of a meat, vegetable, fruit, and carb for her. She doesn't always eat it all but often does. I just keep the portions small so I can offer variety.

At daycare she gets a wide variety as well and they feed her cereal in a bowl with a spoon. Cinnamon rolls, french toast etc etc.

The most important things to remember are to watch for allergies and to make sure nothing is a chocking hazard or that it is cut small enough for her to handle.

I'm kind of jealous, because I have a heck of a time getting my girl to eat anything besides bananas, applesauce, yogurt, and grilled cheese!

But she does like these Toddler French Toast Sticks. They have butternut squash in the batter, so I consider them a triumph! I will also try to put just about anything in a muffin, since she likes bread! Here is one of my muffin recipes.

My daughter just turned 2, but when she was about 8 months old I got a GREAT book called The Petit Appetit by Lisa Barnes. It is loaded with information on feeding babies and kids and providing exactly what they need nutritionally. The recipes are grouped into age appropriate chapters from about 4 months to 4 years. I make the recipes all the time and my husband and I even enjoy some of them!

I have a 6 year old and a 7 month old. My older son lived on brown rice, barley, kidney beans, black beans, any fruit but especially mago and avacados when he was little. He still does love them! My little guy just had black beans for the first time and he couldn't get enough of them. Eggs were very big with my older son, he ate scrambled eggs for breakfast for almost a year! I roll little pieces of avacado in flax meal and they are easier to pick up and healthy too! Got that one from MckMama.
A cut up Peanut Butter or Almond Butter and Jelly Sandwich is a messy but nutritious option.
Lucky you with the snow...we've had none in the NW at all this year!

Once Kayla was entirely on table food (around 9 months) she ate what we ate for all meals. I've never once cooked a separate meal for her. I think that makes them better, less picky eaters. And it made us make healthier choices too!

My daughter just turned 1 and she eats literally everything we do! She eats eggs, chicken, turkey, even steak, I'm not even lying! She only has 4 teeth and does sooo great on table food. She's been on all table food since she was about 8 months due to some weight issues, and seriously will eat EVERYTHING we do!

I made a big ole batch of beef stew in the crock pot and then put it in cupcake tins and froze it. Now if I feel like we need a change I just pull out one of the big giant cubes of stew and microwave it for 1 min. Asher LOVES it!

At a year old, my daughter was eating quite a variety of foods.

She's always loved all kinds of fruits - mango, blackberries, kiwi, as well as the ordinary grapes, apples, pears, peaches, etc sort of stuff. She also loved avocado. I'd put out an assortment of diced fruits on her tray and she'd go at them.

At a year, I started giving her whole eggs (I gave her egg yolks at 9 months). I would do them scrambled or just hard-boiled, and she would gobble them up.

When she got to the point that she wanted to pick everything up herself, I got creative. I used pureed fruits and veggies and would make fruit/veggie pancakes with whole grain baking mix. She loved one that I would do with pumpkin or squash, carrots, and apples, along with cinnamon and nutmeg.

Waffles with cream cheese spread on them quickly became a breakfast favorite of hers.

I made all of my daughter's baby food, and I was repulsed by the idea of pureeing meat (not to mention that the nutritional value of chicken after it is that cooked and watered down was nill), so I never gave it to her until she could chew it. Around a year, I was giving her bits of cooked chicken or turkey breast and I also started giving her white fish. She loved (and still loves!) fish, and it is actually a much easier meat to chew than poultry.

Veggie burgers were also a big hit and made for a lot of quick and easy lunches and dinners for her. I could quickly cook a frozen veggie burger and then just crumble it for her. Eventually, I started adding a little cheese to go with it.

I also did a pasta dish that continues to be a huge favorite of my daughter's. I call it veggie leftover pasta. Any time I am chopping veggies for a dish and have some leftover, I just go ahead and dice it into really small pieces and freeze it. Then I cook up some orzo pasta (or pastina) along with the diced veggies (I dice the veggies about the same size as the pasta). I use all kinds of veggies - bell peppers, squash, broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, carrots, eggplant, corn, whatever. I cook the pasta and veggies together, then drizzle it with olive oil (or pesto mixed with some cream...or a cream sauce with mozzarella or parmesan).

When she was a little older than a year, I started doing quesadillas. I use whole wheat tortillas, cheese, and the same principle of veggies as with the pasta above. Similarly, once she'd done well with eggs, I started doing veggie omelets for her the same way.

My best advice is to expose her to a lot of different tastes and textures and to not fall into the trap of thinking that little ones won't like certain foods. I avoided all nuts until she was 2 and only did peanuts and shellfish after that when she had to have allergy tests for other things and we got an all-clear on those things too (she was already 2.5 yrs at that point).

One thing he does enjoy, thankfully, is thin wheat crackers with fat free laughing cow cheese. I make them into sandwiches and he loves them! I ejoy your blog so much! Besides fruits and veggies and other things you mentioned, at that age, mine loved pancakes (I used to cut them with a pizza cutter and it was so fast and easy), quesadillas, beans mixed with rice, all kinds of pasta with or without sauce. I never bought baby food brands, just adapted 'regular' food for them.

My kiddos have always loved hummus. It makes a great dip for their veggies now that they're older. But when they were Harper's age, I would put in on bread and make a sandwich out of it (cutting it up into bite size pieces, of course). Heck, my 4 year old still eats hummus sandwiches.

Our daughter is 14 months and we feed her the following:
Chicken nuggest
Fish sticks
Sandwiches (we will do a lunch meat and a cheese melted in the microwave for 30 seconds and then cooled in the fridge for 20.)
Mini-pancakes
Scrambled eggs
Really thin hamburgers/cheeseburgers
Bean burritos
Cheese quesadillas
Cream of wheat
Perogies (the cheese and potato kind that are in the frozen food section)
Jelly sandwiches
Basically anything that isn't "saucy" because that makes a mess and requires us to feed her every bite. We will do those things on occasion but we like to choose things are are pretty self contained so she can feed herself.

Also, pick up a couple pizza slicers, you won't be sorry. We have 2 and we use them to cut up everything including her sandwiches. It is so much easier than tearing everything or using a fork and knife.

Oh, have you tried cottage cheese and fruits mixed together. Ava loves cottage cheese. It is a meal you have to feed them, but she really loves it so we don't mind so much. You can also do noodles with a little butter and Parmesan cheese.

I hope this list helps a little. We are always on the hunt for new foods to introduce Ava too.

Well, one of the best tricks is to get a low sodium veggie or chicken noodle soup. drain the broth, and I pick out the meat unless it really falls apart. it will have noodles, veggies, etc all together.

Also, have you tried beans? like black beans or kidney beans?

Also lunch meat is easier to eat many meats

I am a fan of just letting them try it all. I made beef enchiladas the other night and I let Helen have some of the ground beef mixture... she LOVED it!

also shredded cheese is easy for them to grab and chew up vs cut up block cheese

i would get cheese and lunch meat sliced on a 10 (or whatever the thickest setting is) from the deli at the grocery store. then i would chop it into little cubes once we got home for finger foods for adelaide.

My kids love beans and rice (I usually do black beans, but FYI it makes a mess) We also do waffles, sausage (you have to cut it up really small) pasta is always great, with or without sauce. Hope some of these ideas help.

Both of my boys loved and still eat applesauce, Gerber pasta pick-ups (easy to fix for lunch), cinnamon toast, lima beans, and tortellini.

We live in TN and are hoping for that snow on Wed night. My little boy wants snow for his birthday (Thursday, January 7). Praying hard for some "snowman" snow!

My son Jack loves canned green beans. He would eat a whole can if I let him. Plus string cheese is a big hit too. Of course any kind of dry cereal is good too. As long as she's able to chew really good I would say give her everything you eat and she'll be less picky. Of course I also serve the kids less healthy things too for a treat every now and again. There favorite is probably toaster struedel for breakfast.

I have a 14 month old that loves to eat too! Some of his favorites are blueberries, strawberries, cheese, grapes, avacado, toasted mini blueberry bagels, grits, sweet potato, mango, canteloupe, honeydew melon, corn... He will eat just about anything, but for some reason isn't the biggest fan of meat.

Cantaloupe, dry Honeycomb cereal (great to take in Ziploc bags for a quick snack while you're out, too) and Nutri-Grain bars have been big hits with all three of our boys. One tip: you do NOT want to let her eat a Nutri-Grain bar in your car. MESSY. But she can be very self-sufficient with it otherwise, and our boys love to be independent!

Since you mentioned that this is a low blog week, I thought I would ask if you would do a post about soldiers and their addresses. I am doing a project with children ages 7-9 and they are each adopting a soldier. The only problem is I can't find updated addresses for deployed soldiers. I am sure your other readers wouldn't mind sharing their soldiers's addresses. We are currently ready to send out over 100 care packages. I just need addresses. Thanks! Tiff

Emily Rhyse turned 1 in October and she STILL has no teeth!! BUT, we still give her just about everything we eat and she seems to not have any problems. Scambled eggs and strawberries are absolute favorites for her as well as bananas!! She eats pretty much all fruits and veggies and loves blueberry pancakes and she sometimes has bites of waffles w/peanut butter. Spaghetti is a big hit too and we just cut the pasta up into smaller pieces so she can manage it better. Good luck and I'm so thankful you asked this question! I've made out a new grocery list from all the ideas, ha!
