Play Date and the Cookie Monster

We had a fun morning. We had a friend come over and stay the morning with us so his parents could go for an ultrasound to find out if he was having a little brother or a little sister!!!

They played pretty well together. He is about 7 months older than Harper. And MUCH more mellow and easy going. ha! I love that they were both in their fleecy pj's.
Isn't he cute? I loved this picture!
This was CLEARLY taken with my phone and not my camera but I'm sure he doesn't play with a teapot at home much. ha! I told him it was coffee so he wouldn't lose his man card. :-)
Harper missed her morning nap and normally doesn't nap in the afternoon but we both needed some rest so after he left I fed her lunch, gave her a bath and bottle and put her to bed and she slept for two hours! When she got up a package had come from my Uncle Bob and Aunt Linda so I let her open it.
They got her this cute outfit and shoes! We love them!! They also sent a nice donation for the Ronald McDonald House that we are excited about.

AND:

I almost didn't post this next part because I told Scott I imagined I would get lots of comments about what a bad mother I am but I remembered that my 2010 resolution is to blog for US and it was also TOO funny not to remember.

Harper has a drawer in the kitchen that she can play in. It has tupperware and her bottles and snacks and she is happy to play in it forever. So she was in it this afternoon and I went right next to her in our laundry room to load the dryer. I was just there for a minute but I realized that she had gotten quiet and went to check on her. I couldn't find her but I heard a noise coming from our pantry. The door was partially shut and the light was out but this little mouse had found the package of oreos on the bottom shelf and was helping herself:
I gave her a little taste of Oreo a week or two ago and she liked it so much when I put the package away she nearly turned purple she was so mad. I guess she remembered the goodness. I know it's just awful but I was laughing hysterically that she was double fisting the oreos.
(I should explain that I just happened to have the camera sitting out on the kitchen counter so of course I took this before I got her out of there. But I had to GRAB those cookies out of the hands of steel. She did not want to let go. And then Dawson took off with one and I had to open his mouth with both hands to get it out. I sort of think they may be working together as a team).
I'm thinking that next weekend when she gets her own cake - she is not going to have ANY problems putting it away! ha!

Oh please if anyone comments about your parenting for this they have NO sense of humour. If you want to hear of a story of true horror when mummy turned her back I could tell you a few- just remember I live in Australia and (hint) there are plenty of creepy crawlies here.

Karo said...

Oh my word Kelly! That is just too cute. The look on her face is like "oh man I gotta hurry before Mommy gets back!" LOL Too, too funny!

Yes, like everyone else the double fisting Oreos (Double Stuff no less, your girl knows the good stuff!) with her "I've been good" jammies made me laugh out loud and share the story with my hubby. too cute!

Unknown said...

The most hilarious part is that she has on a shirt that says ... "I've been good".

Looks like she is her mothers own daughter ... loving some good ole Oreos!!

Very cute!

I Love love, LOVE! that picture of Harper eating the oreos... sooo cute. It's moments like that, that you just love being a parent. It's the best job ever! So glad to share your story.

Preppy Pink Crocodile said...

Oh that is just about the cutest story/photo ever! She must have been so proud of herself!

C said...

Oh that is hilarious!!! That doesn't make you a bad mom at all:) I often run for the camera to capture moments like that before taking things away.
My 16 month old was too quiet in the kitchen the other day, and I walked in to find her sitting on the floor with a bag of BBQ potato chips, just going to town:) My mother-in-law loves those chips (from Trader Joe's) and had just been in town sharing LOTS of them with my daughter...so I guess she figured "Grandma's gone, I have to help myself." I laughed so hard:)

Veronica said...

The picture with Harper on the floor shoveling oreos had me LOL! Love it!

I've caught Audrey in the pantry going for it from time to time, but her latest thing is dumpster diving through our kitchen trash can! I finally had to go out and buy a new trash can tonight with a lid because my child seems to think that food from the trash is so yummy! :)

aimymichelle said...

oh my goodness! that is so stinkin cute and hilarious.

Harper's "oreo moment" is so funny! How did she know to go straight to the oreos at the bottom of the pantry? I'd say she'll be up for a chocolate birthday cake!

Father's Grace Ministries said...

So funny!

My Mum tells me the funny story that when I was little, I got into her food cupboard (no pantries back then!), opened up the custard powder and spilt it everywhere, then my nappy (diaper US) leaked, and I peed through it all-YUCK!!

Love the oreo picture! We don't buy them because I can't stop eating them either

THAT is hilarious! We had to move all the food off the bottom shelf of our pantry so Leah could play "safely". I love that you shared that!

I love reading your blog and have followed and prayed for your family since Harber was born. I love that you are so real, dont change a thing! And if anyone thinks you are a bad mom because her daughter got into some cookies, then they need a life! There will be more and more things just like this happen! And I look forward to seeing the pics!

This is hilarious! I had a similar moment with my little one. I made monster munch for my 7 y.o's class and spilled some M & M's on the floor. I thought I picked them all up. I went to the bathroom and when I came out my 11 month old was sitting on the floor, very happy with green, red & blue lips and hands :)

Bethany said...

That oreo story just made my day!!!!! Don't feel like a bad mom, feel like a NORMAL mom! My kids have done so many things like that and I try to write them down, but sometimes forget. One day when she's 18 and going off to college, you will cherish this memory and be so glad you wrote it down. Go Harper, enjoy those oreos now while you don't care how big your booty is!! ha!

Amy said...

that is seriously one of THE funniest things I have ever seen!!! I'm so glad you posted this - it made my day. I love the look on her face like, "what....haven't you ever seen a lady double fist some oreos before???"

Laurie said...

That is NOT bad but PRICELESS!!! If it makes you feel any better, I have pictures of both of mine covered from head to toe in Oreos. I even have a picture of Shawn when he feel asleep w/ 2 donut...one in each hand! At least she has good taste!

Stephanie said...

That is the sweetest thing I have ever seen! LOVE IT!!!!
If anyone has the guts to judge you they clearly aren't a Mother. We have ALL been there! I have my 15 mo old a lollipop as he was screaming at the store and I heard the woman behind me discussing that I gave a baby a lollipop. Like it was crack or something! :)
You are a great Mom and that is a HOOT!

Bridgit said...

Bad Momma ...NO! That story is hilarious ...reminds me of my cousins daughter at the beach one year ...caught in her grandparents room ...hidden by the bed ...with girl scout cookies ...eating as fast as she could shove them in!

Spicy Magnolia said...

That is totally awesome!! She's my kinda gal! :) She really does like oreos...I mean, look at that grasp. It totally has me smiling this morning. What kinda cake are you going to make her (or buy)?? I can't decide about Brennan's!!

Trish said...

That is hysterical! You never know what they are going to get into.

I like the looks on my kids' faces when I catch them doing something like this, but instead of getting mad I just crack up. They always look at me like I've lost my mind.

Great story!

Kelly, the pic of her and your description have me laughing more than ever before at 7:10am. What a riot!

I have a pic somewhere on my blog of our Meredith munching on toilet paper around age 1. I prefer Harper's choice in 'bad loot'!

P.S. It appears she might have been after a package of Keebler's too(?)...what a funny, funny girlie!

Oh my gosh! I was reading before I scrolled down the picture and when I hit the arrow button and that picture came up, I about fell out of the chair laughing. That is too darn funny and cute, I'm glad you just happened to have the camera sitting on the counter to get the shot. Bailey gets so mad when i take stuff like that away that she does turn purple and her forehead gets splotcy.

And then I just imagined you having to chase down Dawson while Harper sat without her oreoes.

Really, Kelly, that is priceless!

I didn't read that 200 plus comments before mine, but if there is a person out there that would leave you a bad comment about this, well then they obviously don't have a sense of humor or children. So I hope no one did!

Oh how funny about the Oreos! You are NOT a bad mom at all....kids will find a way to get into stuff you never thought possible. That sweet girl has just learned already how good chocolate really is! And a few Oreos won't hurt her! I would've never said that with my now 7 year old, but I'm a lot more laid back with my 2 year old. The oldest one didn't get to have chocolate milk until he was 3 or 4, because I was afraid he wouldn't drink the plain milk anymore. Well, my 2 year old has had chocolate milk a couple of times, but he went right back to the white milk. I was really strict with the oldest one about what he ate, and it turns out the little one is a better eater, even though he gets treats that the other one never got. Love your blog, and thanks for keeping it real!

Well somebody's got the right idea. Now I want Oreos. Harper, you lucky little thing.

Those pictures are hysterical! If that's the worst thing Harper gets into when you aren't looking, you're in good shape! When I was about 18 months old my parents found me standing in the toilet (yes, IN it!). My mom laughed and left me there while she went to get the camera! After she took my picture and took me out of the toilet, I did it again! Hey...what do you expect?! She laughed AND took my picture! I thought she was proud of me :) The picture cracks me up everytime I see it.

That's not a sign of a bad mom, just a sign of a toddler! Ours works with our dog too to do all kinds of sneaky things. :)

I loved the story about the oreos!! It sounds just like something my daughter would do! Isn't it funny how they get so quiet when they are doing something they aren't supposed to do?

I rarely comment, but regularly read you blog. I love seeing what Miss Harper is up to and it makes me excited to know what to expect with my Harper (she's 6 months now). I LOVE that you posted her Oreo treasure! And most of all that you have decided to blog for YOU and not the world. You are a WONDERFUL mom. Oreos or not!

KateO said...

so cute! Now, why would that make you a bad mom? We've all been in a similar situation before. I left my boys unattended for 2 min. while I switched the laundry over and I came back to nail polish on the younger boy and on his truck (and my hardwood floor). I didn't even know I had nail polish...whens the last time I used that????

You are NOT a bad mother! My daughter did the same thing with one of those big tubs of Animal Crackers...she dumped them out and ate the off the floor!

My camera was no where near by, but I found it and took a picture anyway!

She is adorable and this post made me laugh out loud!

HILARIOUS!!!! I was reading this while in the doctor's office, and I laughed out loud at Harper's face with oreos! Precious stuff right there!!!! Thank you so much for being REAL and sharing it with all of us!

Love, love, love this post. Harper is so innocent looking double fisting those Oreos. When my sister was not much older my mom found her sitting on top of the refrigerator eating the chocolate icing off a chocolate cake that was in a cake container up there. My sister is 53 now and we still laugh at her over that. A woman will do most anything for chocolate!
