Compassion

Haiti Donate Online

My heart is heavy for Haiti tonight. It was last night also. I went to bed so sad. After going to El Salvador and seeing the kind of poverty that is probably 100 times worse in Haiti - I can't bear to imagine what the people of Haiti are going through.

All day today as I put a diaper on Harper or fed her or just held her - I thought about all the mothers in Haiti who are looking at their babies and children and not knowing where they will sleep, what they will eat or if they will have clean water. My heart is so tender for those mothers.
I know you have all seen the devastation and I pray you realize how blessed we all are and that your hearts will be open to help those who have been destroyed by this earthquake. Even if all you can do is pray for them - God loves the people of Haiti and hears our prayers.

There are many ways you can donate - an easy way is to text "Haiti" to 90999 to give $10 to the Red Cross. It will be on your next phone bill. OR you can text "disaster" to 90999 to give $10 to Compassion's disaster relief program. They will be working directly with the local churches who know where these families live and will be providing immediate relief to them. You could also visit HERE to donate.

There is a blogger who has set up a website : Hope for Haiti - they are going to be doing giveaways to raise money to support the people of Haiti.

Scott and I know first hand after going to El Salvador that we are MORE than blessed. We feel like God has given to us so we can give to others. That is why for every person who leaves a comment on this post and lets me know that you have donated (Please share where you have donated - I know there are other organizations helping besides compassion and Red Cross) - we will donate $1 to the compassion disaster relief to Haiti up to $1000.

Please only comment on this post if you have given money to the people of Haiti. You don't need to share the amount.

P.S. (and no one has even mentioned this but I wanted to make it clear) - we aren't doing this to say "look at us - we are giving" ........it's just we have been blessed and we wanted a way to encourage others who can to give. I'm hoping that is the case and that y'all know our hearts!

"If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth." 1 John 3:17-18

We sat around as a family and all us us (including my 12 year old and my 9 tear old) donated. When our boys get $ they need to put some in a fun $ envelope, some in a charity envelope and some in long term savings. When something like this happens they take the $ from their charity envelope to donate but it is their decision on the charity and the amount. It has been a good thing to teach them.

I'm also compiling a list at Bloganthropy.org and will add your post.

I think it is important to blog about giving--you are inspiring others!

Hi Kelly! Your generosity is heartwarming. I wish I had $1000 to give, but I know that amounts are less relevant than the fact that people are willing to open their wallets to help others. I donated to the Red Cross via an election at the checkout register at Whole Foods this morning. Thanks for making my contribution go a little further!

Thanks for your support to Haiti. My 13 yr old son and dad returned from a mission trip to Haiti 1 week before the earthquake. I felt both relief and then guilt that I was happy it didn't happen when they were there. My 13 yr old Isaac was really impacted by the tragedy and worries about the people that he met while he was there. Please pray for Donkenny - a 20 yr old from Jacmel who has CP and is unable to walk. He was naked when Isaac met him and they sat on the ground together and played catch with a balloon. Isaac is most worried about him.

We have donated to an organization locally that my dad recently started. It is a Kids Against Hunger packaging site and they package meals that are being sent to Haiti. Today the SD National Guard collected the packaged 100,000 meals and will be delivering them to a drop off site where the Navy will be taking them the rest of the way to Haiti. Please pray for safe travels and that the meals will be a blessing.

Thank you for being selfless and generous with your money as you also give to the people of Haiti.

Blessings to you!
Kristin
