Six and A Half Months

We had Harper's 6 month appointment a couple of weeks late today
We have a tall girl on our hands!
She was 27 inches long (90th percentile)
Weighed 16 lbs and 8 oz (50th percentile)
Her head is 17.5 inches (90th percentile)
She got her shots and did so good - she barely even cried. Everything else looked great and she is right where she should be. I'm so thankful for my sweet girl!

Scott told me that when she's older and has to have shots - we would buy her ice cream or a barbie doll. ha! I told him that might be creating a hypochondriac who fakes being sick to get rewards. ha! But of course I'm sure I will get her a treat. Since she couldn't have a treat today - I got one for myself - hey - shots are hard on the momma! I went to get a Pina Colada slush at Sonic and get this. The girl said "Do you want to add strawberry and make it a MIAMI VICE?" How funny is that. WELL - of course I did. So now I'm really going to throw your sonics for a loop if you all go out and try to order Miami Vice's. ha! (BUT It sure was good!)
(I don't drink so I didn't realize that was a name of a drink. I thought the Sonic kids just made it up). ha!
Do any of you watch "Army Wives" on Lifetime? I have watched the last two seasons but this year it has been so much better. The story lines this year have been really good and heart warming. The part with General Holden and Emmalyn made me cry (if you know what I'm talking about).

P.S. I just have to add something. One of you sweet bloggers left a comment and said I had it all together and I wish you could hear me laughing. Actually I WISH you could have seen me today at the doctor when I went to pay and couldn't find my wallet (it's always something every day- my phone, my keys, my wallet) so I had to drag Harper outside in the 95 degree weather in that heavy car seat and search my car and then realized I had been at the mall this morning and might have left it there so I called the one store I bought something in and they didn't have it so I drug Harper outside once more and searched my car and finally found it in her stroller basket (after spending many minutes panicking over cancelling cards and having to tell Scott that I truly was crazy) and then having to go back in and explain to the woman at the checkout desk. I was so CHAWED and SWEATY. ha! I'm a HUGE mess of a mom. (And don't get me started about yesterday when I was feeding Harper and she proceeded to poop all over me and her......)
There is probably nothing more humbling than being a mom. :-)

Harpers outfit is soooo cute. Glad to hear she is doing well. :)

Army Wives seems to be a good show. But I haven't been into it. I do like lifetime though!

I love Army Wives--it hits so close to home because I'm a Marine wife (different, but the same). Yay for Harper! My son is a month older and is in the 99th percentile for height, so we've got tall babies together!!!

SO cute:) Do you remember where her outfit came from that she's wearing in these pics?? I am in need of a girl baby gift and I'm thinking that will be perfect!

So cute in the pink bow! I'm glad she is doing so well.
I'm going to try a slush very soon. Yum! :)

Harper is such a cutie pie!!! My little boy is 1 month younger than Harper and I think he is about 28 inches!!! Hope you have a wonderful week!!

You dress Harper so cute! I love her little monogrammed outfit.

I struggled to get my Sonic to make me a pina coloda slushie, so I think the whole Miami Vice might REALLY throw them for a loop! Sounds yummy though.

I love Army Wives, I agree this season has been much better then the previous two.

I've never seen the show before, but that is a photo of the cast (above)? The guys don't look like any Army men my dh served with. Now, I realize this is just a staged photo shoot, but c'mon. They look way too preppy GQ and their hair styles are too long. Military men definitely have a certain something in the hot department, but I don't know, the male characters look like they could have been better cast. Oh Hollywood!

But that is just my little opinion and I don't watch the show. lol

No, she CANNOT be that cute! I mean, for real, she is just eat em up, want to nibble her toes and squeeze her cheeks to adorable for words. I don't comment often, but those pics just demand a compliment. And let me offer one to the mama as well - I think you are something pretty special to take so much time praying over others and lifting their stories up. Something pretty special indeed.

HUGS to your cutie,

Oh, I had a Miami Vice of the alcoholic variety in Mexico a couple of months ago. It was at an all-inclusive resort so the drinks were really small, not much alcohol but so yummy. I always have the cherry limeaid at sonic but i will try the non-alcohlic Miami Vice next time, thanks for the tip. Cheers!

Believe and Be Satisfied
Everyone longs to give themselves completely to someone. To have a deep relationship with another, to be loved thoroughly and exclucively. But God to the Christian, says no, not until you are satisfied and fulfilled and content with living, loved by me alone with giving yourself totally and reservedly to me, to have an intensely personal and unique relationship with me alone. I love you my child, and until you discover only in me is your satisfaction to be found, you will not be capable of the perfect human relationship that I have planned for you. You will never be united with another until you are united with me- exclusive of anyone or anything else, exclusive of any other desires or longings. I want you to stop planning, stop wishing, and allow me to give you the most thrilling plan existing- one that you cannot imagine. I want you to have the best. Please let me bring it to you: you just have to keep watching me, expecting the greatest things. Keep that satisfaction knowing that I AM. Keep learning and listening to the things I tell you: and you must wait.

Don't be anxious, and don't worry. Don't look around at the things others have gotten or that I have given them. Don't look at the things you think you want. Just keep looking off and away up to me, or you will miss what I have to show you. And then when you're ready I'll suprise you with a love far more wonderful than any you would ever dream. You see, until you are ready and until the one I have for you is ready, you have to wait. I am working this very minute to have both of you ready at the same time. And until you are both satisfied exclusively with the life I've prepared for you through me, you won't be able to experience the love that exemplifies your relationship with me, and this perfect love.

And dear one, I want you to have this most wonderful love. I want you to see in the flesh a picture of your relationship with me, and to enjoy materially and concretely the everlasting union of beauty and perfection and love that I offer you with Myself. I love you utterly. I am God Almighty, believe and be satisfied.

First of all, I love your blog! You are such an inspiration to me. Second of all, Harper is adorable and growin' like a weed!!! Third of all, I LOVE Army Wives. I think I've cried at some point during every episode this season! :)

Hi Kelly! I'm a long time lurker--I've been reading since Harper was first born. She's absolutely adorable and has the sweetest smile!

I wanted to let you know that reading your blog is so uplifting. Today was kind of a bad day, and then I came on here and it was definitely a bright spot. Thanks for that!

Also, I'm a stay at home mom of two precious children (a boy and a girl who are 1 and 3 years old) and I live in Kansas City. We're trying for our third baby and it has taken nine months so far. It's a painful process, even though we have two blessings already. I'm certainly gaining some empathy for all the women out there struggling to have their first baby! I know you had a difficult journey before you got pregnant with Harper, and I'm starting to get a glimpse of that in my own life!

Anyhow, keep up the great blogging Kelly!

Your sister in Christ,
Sarah

Have to say Army Wives is one of my favorite shows!! That being said, as an Army wife, it is so not my life. It is funny but most of my Army wife friends are just now fessing up to watching it. It is like we are all embarrased that we watch something that doesn't accurately portray our lives. But what show does I guess?

I do love Army Wives mostly because my husband is a Captain in the Army and it is so nice to see a show that sort of shows the struggles we go through. The relationships between the ladies and Roland is a tad weird just due to the difference in all of their husband's ranks. I have no issue with hanging out with anybody but that is not the norm. I have to be honest and say that I cried during the General Holden and Evelyn situation. You may have addressed this earlier in one of your blogs, but do you own an embroidery machine? If so, which one do you have?

I have many days like that. The other day we had friends over for a BBQ. I was holding my 4 month old son on my lap. All of a sudden I felt something warm on my pants. I realized it was my son peeing on me. His diaper leaked through. Yikes! Then today, he had 3 outfit changes, he spit up formula on the first one and pooped on the second one. Being a mom sure does keep you humble. But as you know, it is worth every minute of it.

And as always, Harper is delightful!

You crack me up and make me feel so much better about being human! :) The "chawed" comment is hilarious. I ate at Denny's with my son last week, got up to the counter, and realized my debit card was in the bag I take to the pool...AT HOME! I had no other form of payment, either. I had to leave my driver's license and watch with the girl until I came back. I was mortified. I love Army Wives and agree it's SO good this year. I watch it with my mother-in-law and we get Starbucks every Sunday while my wonderful hubby puts my son to bed. We both bawled at the General Holden/Emalynn scene. :)

Harper looks precious in that little outfit! I agree with Scott, treats are must once she is old enough. I do them for my 4 year old and will for London too. I always got a toy when I got shots as a kid. I would get strep throat several times a year when I was little, even though I had my tonsils out, and HATED being gagged while they swiped the back of my throat as much as I hated the shot that followed. My parents called it being "Poked and Choked". I got a toy for each of them. So if I just had to have a shot for whatever reason, I got one toy, but if I had to get poked and CHOKED then I got TWO toys! haha! I'm not a hypochondriac and HATE going to the doctor. I never tried to go any extra times as a kid either.

All of our "not so together" moments as moms make for great stories later though....

When I took my twin boys in to the pediatricians office a couple of months ago a friend went with me. She was holding my son Alex and I was holding my son Ben in the waiting room ....when they called our name I grabbed the diaper bag, and Ben and stood up and turned to follow the nurse and managed to clonk my poor little Alex in the head with my massive diaper bag....I felt like the most horrible and crazy mom ever....

Hi Kelly...I read your blog every day. Harper is so adorable and I think you are doing a great job with her. I agree with your husband about the treats. Not expensive..just small treats. Our daughter has had to go through so many procedures that are painful and it is not fair. Start small...a sucker, gum, icecream. She deserves it with all the pain she has to go through. Oh and by the way "HURRAY...MOM GOT POOPED ON...IT'S ABOUT TIME YOU GOT IT!" Just wait till you are holding her and she throws up in your hair...I have been there an experinced it. It's comes with the territory. If you want to check out our daughters caringbridge site...go to www.caringbridge.org , then type in: mackensiegracecarter for the site name. Yes, I am right there with you as far as motherhood being humbling, yet wonderful. Thankfully, a number of years back into this wonderful parenting journey we learned and realized we no longer have to have it all together. Trying to have it together, with kids who have it all together gets exhausting! What a relief to know God is so big! We have two middle school age and one who is 8 and I continually see God's grace in our journey and I am learning to enjoy the journey God has for us no matter what it looks like along the way. His grace is sufficient for me and power made perfect in my weakness, so I will delight and boast in my weakness along the way!

The part with Emmilyn and Michael made me cry too...and I thought is was so sweet and romantic when Frank showed up on the motorcycle ;)

Hey Kelly, I just wanted to say that I really appreciated your little "PS" comment at the end of this post. It's so encouraging to know that we all do have our moments... and it can be easy to read other mom's blogs & think they have it "all together" but really, nobody is prefect! Blessings to your family & sweet little Harper as she recovers from her shots ~ I never liked having to take our boys for them either.

Harper is absolutely beautiful as always. She looks like such a joy! I just wanted to say that i have been following your blog for quite a few months and i am just so touched by your heart. I can see (from afar) that you care about so many of God's children. Your prayer blog touches so many lives. It has encouraged me to look around and pray and also to be so thankful for what i do have. Thank you!

Kelly,

Each time I think about Harper's journey beginning in the NICU last January and seeing her now with her beautiful and animated smile, I think WOW....our God IS amazing! Makes my heart swell!

Enjoy your gift from above...Harper is precious. I am loving the big bows and have forwarded the pics onto my mom (ha!).

I am in the crazy club, too. At least 1-2x a week, I will get into my van WITH keys in hand and somehow lose them before I am belted in and ready to go. I scurry around the car and have the girls on the floor searching for them...it is an annoying sickness that you just have to weather through. It gets worse at 40, so brace yourself! LOL!

Have a great week!

xo,

Shannon

Indeed being a mommy is so very humbling and the reasons for it change over the years!

I DO watch Army Wives and love it! As a military wife myself it is fun to laugh about the very unrealistic parts and to smile and cry about the parts that are VERY realistic and hit home! And as a woman in general i have to agree that the story lines this season have been great!

What sweetness. Love the pics of Harper. Girl, chawed and all...you've still got it together:-)

Julia said...

HAHAHAHAHAH CHAWED!!! I hope you know I laughed OUT LOUD in my cubicle!!!!! You're hilarious! You really do seem to be so well put together, but as a Southern girl, I KNOW that is an important quality in life!!!

To quote Truvy: "I don’t trust anybody that does their own hair. I don’t think it’s normal." ;)

Harper just keeps getting cuter, if that's even possible. LOVE the outfit she's got on in the pics! :) You are a great Mom!

Kelly- no one can have it all together all the time. I can so relate. I am 35 on my 3rd girl but listening to all your stories puts me right back to when I had my first(I was 29) and was trying to figure it all out. love seeing pics of Harper-she's adorable

can you please reply to my email?

She is such a cutie! Don't worry about those mommy brain moments. It seems like I am having them more often every day, but then again having an almost two year old and being 9 months pregnant does ware on you a little bit! :D

Don't be too CHAWED! lol It happens to the best of us!

Army Wives...Do I watch Army Wives, you ask. My 2 kids and husband all know that on Sunday night this momma is busy with her show. I know what you mean about the scene between General Holden and Emmalyn. I cried too.

Crystal said...

Army Wives is my favorite show. I am SO glad that Frank and Denise are working things out and that Michael and Emmalyn are back to normal again. :)

I absolutely love the show Army Wives. I also love watching it and recognizing places from my home state where its filmed. I tried to order a Pina Colada slush last week from Sonic and they had no idea what it was and was trying to ask me what was in it, I had no idea. My daughter is addicted to "Flushies" and has to have a blue one after swimming lessons.

Cracking up that Scott thinks Harper is going to need a treat after shots. I've got Lowrey and Annie counting down the years until age 11, which is when they know is when they get shots next. No treats for them...just buck up and take it. I'm so mean.
I love the recent pictures of Harper...wish you would bring her down to the Rock and see us!
Love the story about the lost wallet and the poop. That's how I was with Lowrey...I remember not being able to figure out how even how to put her carrier in a basket at Target the first time we went shopping and forgetting to take diapers with me one time and her having a huge blow-out somewhere and there was nothing I could do but run for the house. I was a huge mess for a while. And it was summer and I seemed to just ooze sweat constantly. We both did.

I love Army Wives this season!! I cried at that part too...so sweet! ;)

Oh Kelly.....you are not a HUGE mess of a mom........you're just a mom. We all have those days where we think we're going crazy and it's absolutely normal.

I was cracking up reading you story about being chawed and sweaty and just lost it when I got to the poop part. It's those everyday things that make you the AWESOME mom that you are.

I'm glad Harper's appointment went so well.

Thanks so much for sharing your lives with me. You've encouraged me to start my own blog, I'm just stuck on find the perfect name for it.

I LOVE Army Wives... and HATE shots. I think I cried as much as my baby girl when she recently got her 2 month shots and did the same with my son. You're so right, there's nothing more humbling than being a mom. Always love reading your blog!

Yes, I love Army Wives!! I liked the Emmalyn/Michael story line too! And I agree with you that this season is the best!!

I LOVE Army Wives. It is one of my favorite shows. I have lost by debit card sooo many times because I will use it and just throw in my console or purse. My husband just does not understand how I can not keep up with it!

I have made my little girl addicted to Sonic. The only craving I had with her was Cherry Limeaides. This summer as a treat after daycare I would go to Sonic. She loves their sweet tea (my southern belle). Now whenever we are out running errands, she ask if we can go by Sonic and get a sweet tea with a straw. She will be 3 in October. The girl knows what is good! Watch out, Harper will be asking to go to Sonic before long.

Erin said...

I haven't watched Army Wives, but I may have to start. I have heard great things about it. Love the outfit that Harper is in today. Taking them to get shots does not get any easier but my little one seems to cry less now. Hope you have a good one!

erika said...

Kelly you make me miss the south and all things southern every day!!! I need sonic now!!! They are allegedly building one within 20 minutes of my house and I can't wait!!! This Miami Vice business sounds yummy! And yes, I agree, there is nothing more humbling than being a mommy. That is for sure! As a mommy I will even get into a maternity swim suit at 9 months pregnant to take my little angel to the pool to play :) Now that is humbling (and maybe a little scary too?!)

I totally know what you mean about feeling a little crazy when you think you lost something. The other day I took all 3 of my girls school shopping and you should have seen me digging through my stuff looking for the keys. I was in 100 degree heat with my girls in the parking lot looking, while my oldest daughter was holding the baby and making sure the other sister wasn't running in the street. I felt like a mess!

Just a quick comment to tell you that I think Harper has to be one of the prettiest babies that I have ever seen. She is just a doll!

Army Wives is definitely one of my favorite shows ever. I know hardly anybody who watches it though so I can't talk to anybody about it but I totally agree - the story lines this year are so good!

Loved the Emmalin and dad scene too! And I love the way they are dealing with the mess between Frank and Denise.

We finally have a Sonic open in the area & I was so excited to get a Pina Colada Slushie and guess what they didn't have that flavor... I had to settle for a Blue Coconut one instead... Harper is the cutetest... Where did ya get that outfit??? I would love to have one like that for my little girl. Oh and welcome to motherhood, everyone has experiences like you did at the Dr. today and if they tell ya they didn't ya know they are lying... Ha! Ha! Ha!

Funny I read that post about being pooped on and scroll down and see Harpers adorable grin, like she thinks it's funny. Even tho it's a previous post I still thought that.

Ditto on the "not having it all together" thing. My first daughter was always clean and pristine and perfectly dressed. Til the second daughter came along. Now #1 often has a dirty shirt (unless we're going out I make an effort then) and messy hair. #2 is ALWAYS pooping in the middle of a feed, up her back and on both of us. When they say how good breast feeding is, they never mention the multiple daily explosions that come along with it. HA...ahhh good times guys....good times.

I've only watched Army Wifes a few times but I always thought it was good, just never have the time to get into it, or remember to tivo it.

I'm glad that my comment gave you a good laugh....and then your response gave us a good laugh!! That's all the more reason that you do have it all-to-together! Even with days with that, you're still smiling, laughing and loving on sweet Harper! Yes, Motherhood is humbling, but there is not a better job on this earth!!
Keep on sharing your funny stories...believe me, we've all been there and done that!! (and Harper will love reading them one day...she will have different reactions througout the years..first embarassment that her mom would do such a thing...but then one day she will so appreciate them bc she's in the same situations)

I found your blog through my friend Sarah's, and I just wanted to say I'm a faithful follower of Army Wives! I love it so much. I'm an Air Force wife, and they do a great job of accurately depicting military life. Great show! :) Love your blog, too. :)

GIRL! My mom and I are ADDICTED to Army Wives! I LOVE it! I know exactly what you mean about the scene with the General and Emmalynn. What's funny is my dad happend to be watching it with us this week, and I looked over and saw him wiping away tears during that scene! So sweet!!!!

Your story about loosing your wallet at the doctor's office is an all to familiar scene for me too! Just wait until you have that happen to you while you have a two and five year old running in opposite directions because they can see you are disctracted and they think they can get away with something! AAAHHHHHHH!!! Not my most gracious moment by far, but it's all part of being a mommy and I wouldn't trade these days for ANYTHING!!!

God Bless you girl!

P.S. Don't you think it would be great if we could start a blog all about Army Wives!!! I'm sure there are LOTS of other girls who'd join in! Then we could all chat about the show! Just something to think about!!!

Kelly,
My husband and I own and operate 7 Sonic's in Alabama. I have NEVER HEARD of a Miami Vice or a Pina Colada slush. (not since we discontinued the PC flavor years ago). You are in a really good developed market. Oklahoma & Arkansas are light years ahead of us "developing markets". I'll have to tell our crews! And I'll have to try it myself!!!
Love the pics! Harper is getting so big!

Kelly,
I am not even a momma, and I lose things all the time! I went to check out at a store yesterday and realized I had left my wallet at my parents' and had to call to get the information I needed to check out! I love Army Wives as well! I am so glad that Frank and Denise got back together, and that Emmalin and her dad finally got to talk it out! BTW---Less than 30 days till SEC football! I know you must be excited!

When our kids were younger we started the 'if you get poked by a needle, it's an automatic chocolate shake' rule. That has become one of the best crazy rules I ever came up with as a mom of 4. My kids were never anxious about well checks. Once my youngest was even upset when he went to the dr. and didn't get a shot. Even my 16yo was excited recently that she got to get a chocolate shake after getting shots for her mission trip to Venezuela.

So after reading this post I have determined that you and I are a lot alike! This past Friday at my baby's 6 mos. appointment, I too was not able to find my wallet. I realized I had not put it in the diaper bag which I normally do. It was extremely hot that day so I asked nicely if they could just bill me for the visit(which is their normal procedue) they told me NO (It was not the normal sweet girls at the front desk). So I too drug my sweet Avery out into the HOT weather to find my wallet, but thankfully my was an easy find in my purse in the back seat.

Yesterday we had our first MAJOR blowout. I thought we had had blowouts before, but oh no yesterday did us in. Let's just say things were coming out of the diaper from every angle and clothes had to be washed immediately, TWICE!!!

And Army Wives, LOVE IT!!! I have watched every season. I love that their season runs in the summer and gives us something good to watch. Not only did I have tears in my eyes during the General Holdne and Emmalyn part, but so did my hubby.

I guess i have taken enough of your comment space!!!

LOVE Army Wives! Have watched it since the first episode!

And I love the fact that you just posted that moment in time about being a mom. Makes me feel better about becoming a parent in the near days (Hours? A week? Babies have their own schedules, I suppose, and I'm already past my due date!)

Jealous about Sonic! (We don't have those out here in California...)
