I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy

Did ya'll have a good 4th? We really did. Scott was making fun of me because I kept singing "Yankee Doodle" to Harper all day. I have a list of songs that I sing to her daily and I feel like she might be getting tired of them so I broke out a whole NEW collection last week in honor of our nation's birth......"this land is your land", "america the beautiful" and even "Proud to be an american" but she REALLY liked Yankee Doodle.

Harper spent most of her day being held by her grandparents. For some reason - Scott's mom kept avoiding the camera so I don't have any pictures of her but she was very helpful - holding Harper and loving on her.
Most of the day was rainy and cloudy and YUCK and then in late afternoon - it turned out beautiful - just in time for cookouts and fireworks! We went and walked our favorite trail in the morning with all 3 of our dogs, Harper, and the grandparents. We finished just as it began raining.
We came home - got Harper in her patriotic duds and went and had lunch at Abuelos - a yummy Mexican place. Harper was an angel again that day which leads us to believe she likes Mexican restaurants - or maybe it's the spanish music they play?
In the afternoon - one of my favorite friends from home that I grew up with, Micaela, and her family were in town for a wedding and they stopped by to meet Harper. I was so excited they could do that. Micaela was probably one of my strongest prayer warriors during Harper's NICU stay and she has the sweetest family in the world.

Her daugther Jaiden is BEAUTIFUL and she was so sweet with Harper
And Harper was pretty taken with her little boy Jeryn. She grabbed his shirt and hung on to him. I decided Harper and Jeryn have the same eye color - it's an unusual color - kind of blue/gray/green - depending on the moment.
That night we cooked an All-American meal - Hamburgers and french fries - here I am with my big tray of fries. Think I could get a job at Sonic???
It doesn't get much better than this!
Then we sat outside and watched the fireworks going on in all the neighborhoods around us. It was a huge display in all directions. The weather had cooled off with the rain and it was great being outside.
I just knew all the loud booms would wake Harper up but it really didn't. She woke up about 9:30 which is her usual first wake-up to eat time so I brought her outside and let her watch the fireworks. I was worried it would scare her but she loved it. She just stared at all the colors for the longest time. It actually made me a little teary eyed to be able to hold my sweet baby and see her enjoy fireworks for the very first time. I can't wait to share all the holidays with her over the next few years. I know it will just get better and better and better......................

Once you get hired at Sonic, could you ask them to stock the Cookie Dough Blast year round please :o) Got hooked on those after my daughter was born 4 years ago (July 8th) and they go out of season and it puts a damper on our ice cream trips :o)
Looks like you had a great weekend!

Craving burgers and fries now!
Know that the Lord is always with you, wrapping His loving arms around you and holding on tight! Praying!
Psalms 18:2-6 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid. The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me. In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.

Yes I'm sure you could get a job at Sonic--My sister-in-law met her best babysitter at Sonic! The girl was working and Amy went every day after she had her twins as their only outing...they struck up conversations and ended up having a great friendship. Sonic bridges the gap, I tell you. Glad Harper liked the fireworks!

Kelly, you *have* to go find the book called "Someday." When you mentioned you almost cried as you held Harper for her first fireworks show, it reminded me of this book. Some friends of ours gave it to me as a gift...I cry every single time I read it (or even think about it!)! It's such a sweet little book. It's so simple but just perfectly, perfectly sweet!!

Awesome! Do you like how I'm plugging for CL when I don't even work there anymore?! Haha. It's just THAT good. I've been told the guacamole is awesome - I'm allergic to avocados! If you'd like the recipe I can give it to you. It's easy-peasy.
