Hair Day

My hair has been a MESS lately. The aftermath of pregnancy is killing me! ha! My hair has been falling out in clumps leaving me with a HUGE bald spot at my crown, a forehead full of baby bangs and my gray roots are out of control. (My hair is completley 100% gray/white and has been for about 10 years which is why (if you have been wondering) my natural color is dark brown and now I am a blonde).

So today I got it done. And Harper went with me. I was more than a little nervous about how this would work but I couldn't leave her with anyone. Thankfully - she slept for about an hour and the rest of the time she sat in my lap and just looked around and smiled. I think she "gets" the price of beauty. She likes to watch me put on my makeup every morning.
She understands that I do not just roll out of bed looking the way you normally see me. ha! (Can you believe I just posted that picture - I am NOT a proud woman).

When we got home - Nonny was here for a visit!! She and I are taking a little day trip tomorrow and we have a few fun things planned including meeting some "mama" bloggers who are both "Big"-time and "Boo"eautiful. (SO EXCITING!)

Don't you just love her face
She LOVES her grandparents

Isn't her bib cute? Got it HERE. (since ya'll are asking!)
This afternoon - I picked up this Blessing Ring that I recently ordered. I'm so excited about it. I'm going to take all the cards we received while we were in the NICU with Harper and punch a hole in them and put them on this ring. I was on the search for a way to keep those cards and putting them all in a book didn't seem like the greatest idea. So once I get them all strung - I'll show you another picture. Your cards were a treasure to us!

Amanda who I ate lunch with last week has started a prayer blog for NICU babies! If you have requests - go visit HERE and give them to her. I'll also keep the link on my left sidebar. There is also a link called "others" that is a great resource for prayer requests. I am not going to quit posting prayer requests - I just worry sometimes that I might be overloading ya'll. I don't want it to reach a point where you feel so overwhelmed that you just don't pray at all. That's why I just have this sense that I need to step back from it for a short time. But even if we pray in blanket prayers - God hears us and knows the needs.

And I love Harper's bib- SO cute :)

You did NOT just hint that you're meeting up with "the" Big and "the" Boo tomorrow, did you?!! DID YOU?!?!?! haha...if so, yay for you!

AND, LOVE!!! the BIB!! Also, the blessing ring has me quite curious...anxious for the end result.

You are really brave to take Harper to get your hair done. Both my girls want to play with my hair nonstop so it would so not work out for me. Plus my little one got 6 month shots yesterday and screamed all day today :(

Oh...I wanted to tell you that I read in Parent's magazine that moms shouldn't just put up with our kids getting painful procedures without pain medicine..including shots. So, yesterday I asked about and got a prescription for EMLA cream for next time. You just put it on about 30 min before the shots and put these bandages on them and then they don't feel the shots at all. And it's only like $2. So, if Miss Harper screams like my girls do, I would suggest you try it!! I can't stand to watch them get shots.

I think I've posted this before Kelly, but silicea gel basalm works wonders. You take a teaspoon daily and it's awesome for your hair and your nails. I suffered with horrible thin hair after having my boys and it's the only thing that has worked.
I know too well about the price of beauty as do my boys...I asked my six year old the other day to grab me my mirror(yes I have a specific one...he he)and he said, "you probably want your tweezers then too, right mom?"(he was right on the nose!!)
Have a fun getaway tomorrow.

I just have to say...that you could have anything in your hair...in fact, you could have no hair at all...and you would still be one of the most beautiful people I know! :)

Have a wonderful girl's trip tomorrow! Can wait for pictures and lots and lots of details!

Oh, I so feel your pain about the post-baby hair loss! Is your thyroid level normal? It turned out that after my first born, my levels were way off, which could have been causing even more hair loss than normal. I will say though, even on thyroid meds, I still experienced a ton of loss with my daughter too. She just turned 1, and the dreaded baby bangs are just now growing out to where they don't stick out all over the place!

Have fun meeting the other celebrity bloggers!

Harper is adorable, and love that bib!

Can't wait to see a picture of the new hair-do.

Have so much fun tomorrow with Big and Boo! I'm jealous!

Thanks so much for passing along the Blessing Ring blog. I came across the blessing rings in college and gave quite a few. Now that I've moved, I haven't been able to find them. The ones you featured were different, but I like them even more because you can personalize them...and you know every southern girl likes her stuff personalized!

It is funny that you took Harper with you. I have taken Emma Kate with me every time since I had her. I bet my hairdresser thinks I am a weirdo, but I have a hard time parting with her. She sat in my lap the last time, but got real antsy, so I may have to get someone to watch her this time...sigh!

Girl...your hair is so much like mine! I have those baby bangs galore and the gray roots, too. Hopefully the hair falling out in clumps will go away soon!

I can't believe how good Harper did sitting in the chair! She knew Momma needed a break. Good hair is a must! haha

Have fun meeting Big and Boo Mama!!

Know the feeling with the hair. My hair is falling out terrible since Aidan was born. I usually wear it long but thinking about going shoulder lenght, and my color, so in need of a touch up. I too was noticing my hair is graying even more. What is a girl to do?

Thank you for posting about your hair!!! I'm 21, pregnant, and totally depressed about my hair!!! I have DARK brown curly hair... excluding the gray hair that is creeping in faster and faster!!! Thanks for stating that you were mostly gray! It makes me feel better that I'm not alone!!

I feel so silly because it's just hair... but... my hair is my shining glory. I want it to stay pretty :(

You and I would so be great friends if we knew each other IRL, Kelly! :) I just took my sweet babe, London with me to get my hair done last week too. She was a doll and loved "talking" to all the ladies in the sallon. She also watches me get ready everyday. I set her in front of me on the counter and we have our "girl talk" while I get my face put on! Dont you just love having a little girl!?

Sounds like you have fun day planned tomorrow too. I'll be sure to check out the blog Amanda set up. What a great idea that was!

what a brave mama you are - to take Harper along for your hair appt. I gave up highlights recently, because of the logistical difficulties of thinking of taking two babies to a 2.5 hair appt, every 8 wks. So it is back to boring brown for me. :)

Your photos continue to make me look forward to when my baby girl is as happy as Harper! Right now we're in the scream her head off or constantly nursing... it's a little tiring, being a stay at home mom with a husband who's gone for 12 hours of the day. But reading your blog makes me look forward to the more happy moments I will have! And yes, her face is precious! I love her little smile!!!

I can so appreciate the importance of "hair day"! If we lived in the same town, I would offer to keep H for you during your appointments. I'm always worried about making arrangements to go get my hair done--it's always stressful, but I have to make it work with my GRAY! For my last appointment I took R & A to school, hurried home to feed C because a babysitter was coming right when I finished feeding him, then L came by the salon and got my car w/carseats, picked the kids up at school, took them to the house w/ C and babysitter and then dropped my car back off at the salon so I could have carseats for swim lessons, then I hurried home just in time for C to eat again 3 hours later---WHEW!!!!! If only we hadn't inherited our Dads' gray hair genes--ha ha!!!! :)

I'm a hairstylist and I don't mind at all when new mama's bring their babies! One time one of my clients was getting her hair done right before my mom, and my mom even held her baby for her while I finished blow drying her hair. She's a trooper, even after some strange woman's baby spit up on her she still did it :)

Don't worry - my hair is falling out too. It's everywhere even in Evie's crib. YUCK!

Loved the pic of you and Harper. I take Evie with me to get my hair done too - twice she has cried and once she had fun. She thinks her mommy looks really funny with shiny things all over her head so she just stares.

Have fun today!

It's OK, we all look like we are being set up to be electricuted (sp) when we get our hair did!! (just don't go near a lightening storm, i hear it's not recommended)

But here's a prayer request. I'm not married (starting your book come Sunday), I have no babies, but I do have a MAJOR prayer request between now and Saturday! I have an exam (yes a college exam) on Saturday 12-2:30 and this class determines if i graduate in may or not :( I am not doing well in this class (I am an A/B student) and I will be THRILLED to just PASS this class (it is ridiculously hard). I also have to finish my 8-10 page feature story before that and before I can study. So I am praying for wisdom and discernment. God has given me all the resources I could want or need for this class, I just am praying he show me how to use them and use the brain (that's supposed to work) He gave me! I know in Psalm's David always prayed for wisdom instead of riches and other things. I know he's given us everything, but we forget to ask for wisdom/discernment to understand why He does things

OK this is really long. Sorry for preachin' on this. My southern baptist roots came out of hiding for a few minutes. woops!

And PS I have a boyfriend set up for Harper already. Just in case. He is SUPER cute. and His name is HENRY. (can you imagine the napkins at the wedding? H&H? adorable).

LOVE the fact that you put the picture on your blog--us girls can all appreciate the phrase, "There is no such thing as natural beauty!" like Dolly said in Steel Magnolias...I love that line. It's hard to fix ourselves once there is a baby that wants to be held but you're doing GREAT at staying yourself and incorporating Miss Harper...since having my new baby 7 weeks ago I can count on one hand how many times I've dried my hair and put makeup on...sad sad sad. I told my hubby you helped inspire me to put on real clothes and do my hair, makeup, etc. So thank you!!

thesixburghmom said...

Kelly, I've been reading your blog for awhile now but this is the first time I've posted a comment. And I just had to because of your hair situation...lol. I also have naturally DARK hair...like Asian black (and I'm not Asian). But the past few years I have been getting grayer and grayer. I'm only 31 and have bad gray roots...lol. It's embarrassing. Is my only choice to go blond? I mean, you look great as a blond, but I just can't imagine myself as one. I've always been known as the "girl with the black hair." I've just been dying it with Loreal or whatever is on sale. I admit that I rarely go to a salon and I probably need to. But I could REALLY use some advice on what to do here...lol.

Also, I really have loved reading your blog every day. I came here right around the time you had your little Harper and it has been a joy to watch her grow.

You are SO right about that Kelly! God does know the needs!! Isn't that just incredible? I find myself in awe sometimes about the power of the God we serve! AND - I don't think ANYONE blames you for wanting to concentrate on that sweet baby of yours for a while on the blog! After all - isn't that why most of us started our blogs in the first place?

Megan Light said...

I love your first picture - and thank you so much for sharing, I'm glad I"m not the only one who's completely gray at 25! I dye as well to hide it all and when the roots start poking through I pretend to be a natural blonde ;)

Kelly- People were always amazed at the things I was able to do while toting a baby around. After my second child I cont'd to do the same thing. I would go and get my nails done, get my hair done, get a week of groceries, go to the mall, etc. With just one it is easy0 they're your going-around-town pal. If you have another, you can do it with two, also. I think some people underestimate what they can do with a baby. It's either that or sit at home like we are helpless, which we are not...You have to make it work or resign yourself to being bored for 5 years..and we know that is not appealing! I knew people that would not leave the house b/c they thought having a baby would along would be too much so they waited on their husband, the weekend, or a friend. Not me, sister!

In regards to the font....for some reason the white background takes a while to load on this blog...juat be patient. When you first come to her sight all you see is the background and the letters on top are barely readable...but then after a few moments a white background to the print should come up. I get the exact same thing. Perhaps the white background is not pulling up from your computer? The turquoise and brown decor should only be on the sides after the page has fully loaded. :)
