I can't think of a title for this post

Do ya'll know about the Duggars??? I'm sure you do. They have their own show on TLC because they have 18 children. They also live in my area. I got tickled today wondering if they went to childbirth classes every time they had a baby and what if they were in our class? Or what if they taught the classes? I mean who knows more about having a baby than Michelle Duggar???
Did you see the recent episode where their friends came to visit and they had 17 children with one on the way also? They went to Silver Dollar City in Branson and had (almost) 36 children between them. I think about how stressed Laurie and I might get trying to take 3 girls somewhere next year. Can you imagine 36????

I also wanted ya'll to meet two of my closest friends:

Acid Reflux is fun! I had to sleep sitting up in bed last night. I dreamed I was on a game show for pregnant women and the one with the least amount of heartburn won. I lost.

Kelly,
I don't even know what to say about that family...that is a lot of kids! Good thing they come one at a time, usually :) Sorry also about the acid reflux, that is a bummer. I have recently discovered the dissolvable packets of tums...they are GREAT!! You just sprinkle a packet on your tongue and let it dissolve. Amazingly, they taste great and give you instant relief. Something to think about if you're desperate!

I hope you really didn't have that dream! I have had CRAZY dreams, though, and SO vivid. It makes it hard to get a good night sleep!

I love that show! I secretly want to run into them up here.

Here is my helpful reflux tip that someone told me...chew double mint gum. Something about the mint kills the reflux. I chewed it all the time especially in bed at night. It was the only thing that worked for me. I even had a precription for Nexium and the gum worked better. It might not help you, but it is worth a shot!

I've heard that if you have heartburn, it means your baby will have a lot of hair. It was true for me! Mark looked like a little Hispanic baby when he was born because he had so much black hair! And I had tons of heartburn with him...but none with the other babies (and they were all bald). Isn't that wierd?? You'll have to fill us in on how the classes went!

how funny! i almost bought some tums the other day at target because i've had more heartburn with this baby than with my other two. i ended up scrapping it--there were waaaay too many choices/flavors, and i couldn't make up my mind! so i resolved to sleep propped up on pillows instead, and that's helped. i've never shopped for heartburn medicine before!

I love the Duggars. I know a lot of people think it's "wrong" that they have so many kids because they feel the parents can't give enough attention to each child but if you watch the show- it just works for them! I think they way they live their lives is very interesting. I watched the episode where the oldest son proposed to a girl who he barely knew and they didn't kiss for the first time until their wedding day! That's some control!! He flew into MY town and proposed to her at a little local restaurant. How random!
I can't imagine having that many kids but they do seem like great parents with great kids.

Oh I feel for you with the heartburn. I had it so bad when I was pregnant, like the whole 9 months I was pregnant. The good news is it goes away immediately when you give birth!

Oh boy! Tums was my best friend too when I was prego! I ate it like candy!! ha! Such a funny dream!

Leslie said...

I had horrible heartburn with my twins, but what others have said was true...it ended once they were delivered, and they had tons of hair!! I, too, loved me some Tums! We bought it in bulk:) I hope you can get some relief soon!

I loved your deam! Too funny!!!

I love the Duggars! It's so interesting to watch their show and see how kind and well behaved each of the children are.

I giggled out loud at your dream. I am so sorry that you are having such awful acid reflux! But your dream was too cute- wish you had won though! =)

That IS a bunch of kids!! I know I couldn't do it!! Laughing at your heartburn dream -- I lived with it when I was pregnant with Kennedy, must have been the DAILY Jr Bacon Cheeseburger I ate from Wendy's! HA!

Good Luck girl -- it's almost HERE!!!

I am so sorry about your heartburn! That is NO fun AT ALL. I had to sleep in a chair with my first set because the heartburn was so bad.

I have heard of the Duggars...too WILD!!! I had no idea they lived near you...very funny!!! Good luck at your classes :)

isn't it amazing how michelle keeps on going with a smile? how can you be constantly pregnant and happy too? especially with reflux. i feel your pain.

my aunt gave me some prevacid prescription strength that really worked for me. then i ran out :( now i'm back to sleeping sitting up.

come on baby!

The Duggar's show is cute- Mrs. Duggar is so sweet with her children.
My daughter is 21 now, and I still feel queasy when I see a bottle of Tums. I ate SO many during that pregnancy. Ick.

Unknown said...

You're right! The Duggars are no longer local celebrities. They live down the road (well, highway) from me and Jim Bob graduated high school with my brother. It just cracks me up every time I hear..."we're expecting...AGAIN!" Can you imagine?!?

Susan said...

We knew the Duggars when we lived in NWA. They only had 5 children at that time. My husband bought a car from Jim Bob just before we married. We were blessed to be in their home several times. They are amazing parents! She REALLY is that happy and pleasant. Such a wonderful example of a godly woman. I had hearburn both times and my children had tons of hair...not sure if that old saying is true, but it was for me.

Stephanie Kay said...

My parents live in your area. According to my dad, the Duggars come up when people ask about how many kids I have. Some how I don't think FOUR even comes close to being the same!!

The Garners said...

How could someone ever afford to get that many kids into "Steal Your Dollar City" as my Dad loves to call it!?!?!?

Laurin Pearce said...

Loved your blog! I liked your best friends...that was too cute! I love that show btw! So neat!

I just had a vision of babysitting the Duggars and a little tear sprouted from my eye. Brannen and Will are crazy enough - I can't imagine them x 9. But they are a sweet fam - I just like to hang out with them through the TV.

Your dream is too funny, my friend. Bless your heart (literally). :-) Hope you feel better, and good luck with the classes!!!

Kelly,
You are too funny. Sorry about the reflux you are experiencing. I had it bad toward the end of pregnancy. I got a Rx for Nexium and it completely took all of my heartburn away. Try asking your Dr. for some...it worked wonders!

Lauren said...

I LOVE "17 and Counting". I actually saw the oldest son at his used car lot in Springdale today... and I was just telling my mom how I would love to drive by their house! How funny!

Heartburn during pregnancy = babies with lots of hair. I had horrible heartburn during both of my pregnancies and had babies with headfuls of hair. The heartburn will stop the moment you give birth ... hang in there!

Missy said...

we love to watch the duggars, and jon and kate plus 8. both moms and dads are my heros. i suffer greatly with one child some days. i feel for your suffering of acid reflux. that and heart burn is how i found out i was pregnant.

Jenna said...

I love their show - Michelle goes to my doctors office! Teena, my favorite ultrasound tech was the one on their show doing their gender u/s!

Ashley said...

I had terrible heartburn with my third. I swear by this method- but be sure to ask your Dr. first.

1 tsp. of baking soda in a small glass of water, mix together and swig it.

It WILL cure heart burn- I promise!

Laura Ann said...

I was just reading about the Duggars the other day for the first time. I mean, I can not imagine that many kids, but seems as if they do well for themselves.

I am so sorry you are experiencing heart burn. I have no idea what that is like, but I am sure it can not be comfortable at all. Just think only 39 more days to go and Little Harper will be in your arms forever!

Jessie Weaver said...

The last 10 weeks or so of my pregnancy I had to take Prilosec OTC every night--it helped IMMENSELY. I had heartburn all the time before then. Talk to your doctor about it if you're not sure, I'm sure it's 100% on the safe list. Good news is my baby girl came out with a whole head of hair!!

Pam said...

I want to spend a day with the Duggars, just to see how they really live and make it with 18 kids. I remember keeping a bottle of Tums in both cars and most every room!

I have been wanting to ask you about this family since they live in your area...do you ever see them???

Mrs. Shelton said...

I'm a bit obsessed with the show. I can't help but to think they are odd. I guess I shouldn't say that...they are just so different from my life. I think it is really odd that they don't kiss before they are married and the 20 year old engaged couple has to have a chaperone to go on a date. Does anyone else find that odd? They do make beautiful children. I can only think of 1 word for me if I had 17 kiddos...stressed! I know I will have my hands full with 1. I admire anyone that can raise 18 kids.

Leah said...

I didn't even know what heartburn was until Kendall!!! Thankfully, I haven't had it since I gave birth. I could seriously drink water and have heartburn, it was TERRIBLE!!!!!

Kendall had a bib exactly like that pretty one below, except her monogram was white. My mom got it for her. I didn't really use bibs much (unless she was eating) but I did put that one on when she was wearing her pretty dresses and bonnet. Anyway, the brown is so pretty. And that gown...Oh so gorgeous...I just love stuff like that!!!

Kelly,
I would not be a big winner winner chicken dinner in your dream beacause I too have had ridiculous heartburn. One Pepcid AC a night as needed has been my relief. I have heard the wives tale heartburn=lots of hair... I hope so!!!!! we shall know any day now.. or at least by next Friday's due date (i hope).

I can pretty much identify with the Duggars, although I'm quite sure my parents would never have paid to get us in Silver Dollar City!!

I didn't have ANY heartburn with either of my children... but if someone is keeping track ... neither one of them had any hair when they were born.

Val, Brax and Harper said...

the theory that heartburn=hair held VERY true for my son and i. (i had the heartburn, he had the hair--it started out black and wavy, he went bald at 5 months and it grew in blond and straight) so at least you get something in return! harper will have great locks!

Gennae H. said...

I love the Duggar's show. Michelle (the mom) is so calm and soft spoken...I can't figure out how that can be. If you want to run into them you should hang out at the consignment shop (that's where they buy all of their clothes) or the grocery store. Or you could just park outside their house and wait...ha! I'm not sure how her body can hold up after all those babies. Let's not even think about what it would be like to nurse 17 plus kids....yikes!

I had heartburn so bad with my 2nd pregnancy...I slept sitting up the last few weeks. And he was bald until he was almost 2 years old...so much for the hair theory!

rachel said...

love the post! i had acid reflux badly too! so not fun-my sister told me something that she always does and it is NASTY but it worked for me! a mug (8 oz) full of hot water and a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar...you look great by the way! Harper is almost here-so exciting!!!

Lori said...

Ew, I don't miss that heartburn AT ALL!!

Kelly said...

I cannot IMAGINE having anywhere near that many kids!! The thought of taking more than one to Branson stresses me out, though I hope to be able to do just that one day.

I feel your pain about the reflux. I had it at the end too, I ended up taking Pepcid and it worked a TON better than Tums. But the rumor with the baby having hair with heartburn....didn't apply AT ALL to me. My little man was bald when born and in all honesty, still pretty much bald at 13 months and I did battle the heartburn.

Good luck these last few weeks, they are hard, but you get such a good prize at the end!

Julie said...

I'm so sorry you've had heartburn! Even more sorry you are having to sleep sitting up in bed.

I had heartburn today but I ate chili, I'm out of shape, and I've gained weight!! :)

What's your favorite flavor? :0

Laurie said...

I can testify to the heartburn. The second Harper comes out it will stop. Amazing. Love the TUMS! I asked for Tums before pushing with both girls. Take some to the hospital. If you are like me, you are never without them.

Hi Kelly. I have read your blog from time to time before, but never commented. I haven't been blogging that long though. I love reading your blog, you are so funny. Congrats on your baby. Girls are so much fun. Can't wait to read more!

tum, tum, tum, tum... those things truly are amazing! the other day i saw them and actually got sentimental about the delicious smoothie flavored tums. i decided i missed them so much that i ate one right there on the spot. for some reason they weren't nearly as good as when i was pregnant and actually needed them, haha. i promise your tums days won't go on forever!

wow...36 kids to silver dollar city! thats crazy, but i do love that place, we go to branson about every 3 months or so....and i've always heard the heartburn means harper will have lots of hair :) my best friend stacy had heartburn almost the whole time and her little girl came out with a head full of hair :) and i never had it and my little boy was bald :)

How odd that you should blog about the Duggars today! Just this morning someone sent me an email article about them. We're not familiar with them in SA, so I was surprised to come across them TWICE in one day! What an amazing family and how neat and tidy their house is! I am impressed!

The Golf Widow said...

LOL! I'm guessing that by about the 10th baby she had such a short labor that getting to the hospital in time would be the trickiest part.Maybe all that heartburn will result in tons of hair for bows :)

Melissa said...

Kelly! So glad I found your great blog! The Duggar's are a trip. More power to her! I am amazed with the amount of homeschooling she does. I would BEG for that many kids to run off to school for a few hours a day just for a break! Sorry about the heartburn...

you are too funny...so glad that many people are having positive comments about the Duggars. My bro and sis in law have ten and people can be MEAN about it..especially total strangers in grocery stores. Seriously. But anyone who knows them realizes that they should have 10 more because they are the most wonderful kids anywhere.....
You're almost to the end....what a blessing.

That show freaks me out... just because I dont see how everyone is so happy. At least on Jon & Kate -you see them freak out... you never see the Duggars... something's wrong with those people (HEHE!!!!)

It is amazing to see how their family works so smoothly....

I have to know, have you ever seen their house? That is so cool that you live close to them!!!!

I slept propped up on a throne in the last weeks of both of my pregnancies just because of the heartburn. I never knew you could sleep all night sitting up but you can.

Heather said...

I cannot imagine having that many kids....but like others have said- it works for them! Sorry about the heartburn...I have had a little and it is NOT FUN! The last two nights I have not been able to sleep, either. I am not very pleasant when I have been up all night!!!

The Duggars, yes. My girl and I had a discussion about their "courting" ideas-really interesting.
Kelly, I know everyone is telling you this, but do enjoy those little memories of the last few weeks of your pregnancy, even though you are miserable now. It has been 11 years for me now, and I promise you, I wish I had journaled. I hate to tell you I have forgotten most of those little things like sleeping arrangements, heartburn, little gifts sent by friends in passing, etc.
In this spirit, I decided to start a new tradition and do a Christmas journal this year and document all little moments in the month of December that meant a lot but may be forgotten by next year. Come over and read those if you get a moment. Some of those things are precious traditions to me, shared by friends and lovingly adopted by us. I hope you find one you can adopt from us as well. From one girl mom to another.

When I had 3 under 3, I had many moments of "HOW DO WOMEN DO THIS WHO HAVE MORE??" But then I'd have those women (ok, they didn't have 18, 'only' 7 or 8) tell me how much easier it is when you have older ones to help with the younger ones. I didn't see it at the time b/c I couldn't imagine my kids EVER being that old. But it is true. I only have 4, but Abigail is such a HUGE help with Elijah, I can certainly see how you could manage many more kids when you have the help of your older ones. Elijah does not suffer from lack of mom time, he's with me all the time. But when I NEED to do something, I have Abigail who can watch him for a bit (I mean while I'm at home doing something, not leaving :)
Not that I would have 18, but bless her for going for it!

becca said...

oh yeah, and I seriously MISS feeling my baby move after I have the baby. Not that ANYTHING is better than having them in your arms. But having them in your tummy and feeling them move is like no other feeling in the world. I do miss it.

I stop by your blog often, but have not left a comment before. I enjoy reading your posts. I have an 8 month old son....Tums were my best friend during my pregnancy! :)

I wish you all the best. I am sure you will be a wonderful mother. I am the most stressed person I know, so my advice to you is just enjoy every minute. Things will all fall into place and you'll do everything you need to do! Best wishes!

I absolutely LOVE watching the Duggar's TV show. I find their family so fascinating... I don't know how she does it, but she definitely is super mom. :)

I remember those days! I had terrible reflux with my second pregnancy and Tums(berry flavor) became my new best friend! Hang in there, as soon as you see little Harper, you'll forget all about the discomforts you sufferred in getting her here!

Girl dump those two acid reducer and go for the Pepcid it is expensive but let me tell you IT WORKS!! They say the more indigestion you have the more hair little Harper will have. My first child had a head full and I had indigestion from drinking water..no kidding. PEPCID works like a CHAMP.

I have never heard of these people...TLC has some interesting stuff!

Hope the heartburn feels better...my chiropractor suggested a teaspoon of baking soda dissolved in a full glass of water for a more "natural" remedy, if you want to try that.

Carly Winborne said...

Not sure how I found your blog, but can I tell you how much I love you? Your first post, about the heartburn, hilarious. I can so relate. I lived on Prilosec for my two pregnancies.

Love Harper's nursery, all that monograming and pink and preciousness! That closet of hers is adorable. You'll LOVE that you had a picture of all her fancy things.

One more thing - I mis-read that Dawson is your "furry" child. I thought it said "funny" child and as I was reading through, I was thinking to myself, what about Dawson? Boy, he's getting the shaft with all this new baby stuff. Wasn't until I saw that sweet little dog using Harper as a pillow that I realized that Dawson was the dog! I laughed out loud. Think I need to go to bed? Sheesh.

Very cute blog. I've enjoyed it and would love to "visit" again.
