Eight Weird Things

Jacquie tagged me to write out 8 random facts about myself. I've been trying to come up with some and since it's Saturday morning and I am still in my pj's - might as well make a list now:

1. Ever since the blessed day my mom finally let me start shaving my legs - I've shaved them EVERY day since. Until now. I can't reach them. And it's winter. So I am doing the best I can to at least shave every few days. It's hard to let go................

2. I don't like eggs or milk or hot dogs or black eyed peas or lima beans. My husband thinks I'm strange and un-American (especially the egg and milk part). Other than that - I'll eat pretty much anything. (Don't worry - I eat a lot of cheese and other forms of calcium plus take pills).

3. Getting Christmas cards is probably my favorite thing about Christmas. (Although I pretty much love everything about the holidays!)

4. I could eat a turkey sandwich and chips for pretty much every meal, every day forever.

5. I'm blind as a bat. I have worn glasses/contacts since the 7th grade. I only wore glasses for one year and I finally got a new pair this year but I still don't wear them (except for right now because I got some kind of eye infection over Thanksgiving). I have no desire to have surgery to fix my eyes. The idea of that terrifies me. I'm just fine with wearing contacts forever.

6. I am VERY shy and having to mingle in a big room full of people is my idea of a nightmare. As I get older - my shyness has worn off a lot - but I still hate mingling in big rooms. In college during rush - I would hide behind the punch bowl so I didn't have to mingle. (Unless I know and love every single person in the room like at my baby shower - in which I couldn't mingle enough!)

7. I don't like to read. Unless I'm on vacation and then I could read 12 books in 4 days. I grew up loving to read but I don't seem to make time for it anymore. I don't see that changing any time soon.

8. If my BFF Laurie or I ever have to miss church - we always call each other to get the "church report" and whoever was there will give as many details as they can possibly remember (music in church, sermon, any announcements, who was in Sunday School, etc). Both of us love to try and remember as many details as we can about that Sunday to report to the other. We hate missing church. And we would never ask our husbands for the "church report" because both of them would just say "church was good" and that would be the end. ha!

I won't tag anyone but if you are home on this cold Saturday - please make a list of your own!

I got glasses in the 7th grade also. I remember walking out of the dr. office, looking at a tree and being shocked that I could actually see the individual leaves on it.

Aren't men funny about their lack of observation? They couldn't tell you about what someone wore to church but they could tell you about the "sweet" car they saw on the way there. = ) Gotta love 'em.

I CANNOT believe you are shy, Kelly!!! That one surprised me.

The shaving thing cracked me up. It does get better, I promise.

And oh my! I hear you on the church report. I missed church quite a bit when my kids were younger because they seemed to catch every virus that went around. It drove me CRAZY when my husband would get home and say, "it was good".

HOWEVER, in Arkadelphia, our services were televised, so I never missed the sermon or the music, or the crowd. I loved that.

I still sorta do it today. We get in the car on Sundays and I still ask him, "So, who'd you talk to? What did they say? Tell me something good!" I'm not sure he loves it, but he's definitely used to it by now.

This is so funny! I'm so blind, too! I started wearing glasses in 3rd grade, then in 5th grade my parents made me get contacts because I was playing competitive softball and they were afraid I was going to take a line drive to my eye. Ever since then I have worn contacts until September when I finally ordered a pair of glasses. I was so afraid I was going to have a c-section and not be able to see Brody's face since you have to take out your contacts! Good thing I went with my gut and ordered them!!

Well...I went a week at a time without shaving my legs when I was preg...and it was summer!!!

I started wearing contacts in 2nd grade! I know that is really early, but I did have a reason for this! I am probably blind enough to qualify for a handicapped tag in my car. Seriously, if one of my contacts fell out of my eye while driving, it would be dangerous! I also have no desire to have surgery - after so many years of wearing contacts it just feels normal to me. You would probably freak out if you knew my contact prescription strength!

I thought about you yesterday when the Hawgs downed LSU!! Great game! We have our own today when we play Auburn at 2:30. And it's raining cats and dogs here in central Alabama :/ We'll see who's hungriest for a win :)

Really?! Every single day?! My husband probably wishes I shaved my legs every day!! I wonder if you will keep this up once Harper is here :)

Kelly - I'm curious. Since you don't drink milk, how are you going about getting the calcium you need for little Harper? There is probably some great answer out there to that question - in the form of a pill, no doubt - but since I drink milk, I drank alot while I was pregnant with Alise....almost craving it at times, so I didn't have this problem.

Loved your list, my friend!

I really felt our souls connect on that #4. I need somebody with that kind of mindset in my everyday life. :)

I loved reading your list!

Christmas cards are one of my favorite things about the season, too! December is a good mail month!

I hate to mingle in rooms full of people I don't know--there is nothing fun about it! I laughed about the punch bowl--I would hang out there with you if I saw you in a big room!

The church report was funny. Lane has no ability to absorb details about things like that either. He'll tell me someone had a baby and that's all he knows--has no clue whether it's a boy or a girl, no clue on name, etc.

Oh I loved the list! I'm pretty blind as well, I just had Ryan pass me my glasses so I could leave this comment. The biggest motivation I had for being able to type without looking at a keyboard was the fact that I can't see a computer screen without glasses! I also understand about being shy-- I'm shy as well.

I love your list Kelly. We have so much in common. I feel like we're best friends and we've never even met. You should live closer to DC!

I'm blind as a bat also and I hate wearing glasses. I love turkey sandwiches and chips and could eat them every single day as well. Shaving every day - not me. :)

Have a great Saturday.

I'm gonna have to put this up on my blog too.

KELLY! You don't like milk?! I am pretty sure I could LIVE on milk. haha! I wish I had glasses. I always see people with these cute, stylish glasses... I have even thought about buying some that only have glass in them with no strength (is that possible?) because I want a pair so badly. So if you ever see me on my blog with glasses...you know what I've done...

Now, I am completely with you on No. 3, 4, and 6, and I only wish I was completely with you on No. 1. Haha!

Great list.
I had to not shave when I first got my DVT and then I had to watch how often and with what blades when I was on blood thinners. (Hubby bought me an electric).
I am not a black eyed peas person either. My mother was born in the south and loves them.

R said...

oh wow--this could be my list! :0)

my mother was very strict with all the "girly stuff" growing up, too. i couldn't shave until a certain age, wear panty hose till a certain age, wear makeup, get my ears pierced, etc. till a certain age. and now that i have daughters, i thank her for it! i'll be the same way with my girls too so they have fun "female" rites of passage to look forward to rather than allowing them to grow up all at once.

all that to say, i shave my legs every day too! especially when i'm pregnant, because you never know when you'll be making that middle of the night trip to the hospital...

i could eat ham and swiss sandwiches and baked lays for every meal. i love sandwiches! and that's always my first meal after i have a baby. my hospital has a hoity-toity executive chef, so the food is great, but i always just order that. i'm looking forward to it again in may with baby #3!!

i've worn glasses or contacts since 6th grade, and i never plan to have surgery either! i like how i look in glasses.

a fun list! i love learning new things about people.

I'm with you on #5 and #7 sista!

We are so much alike..it's a little scary! I've been super blind since 3rd grade and am terrified of surgery, although it would be nice to wake up in the night and see what time it is! :) I seriously can't believe you're shy...that one was a shocker!
p.s. Congrats on your win over LSU..I couldn't have been happier!

I am so glad there is someone else who hates milk as much as I do. I also am very blind and refuse to get surgery on my eyes. To many risks. I am also very shy and totally hate mingling in a big room. I have gotten better but I hate that I am still so shy to strangers. Glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I REALLY hate eggs. I can't even stand the smell of them! I had NO IDEA you were shy! You always seem so outgoing!

Julia said...

I totally shave my legs every single day too! I switched to showering in our guest bathroom just so I can shave my legs since I can't reach them in our stand up shower! :) Fun facts!

That's funny, I eat a turkey sandwich with sun chips almost everyday for lunch too!

I'm laughing at the church report! So funny!!

Thanks for playing along, Kelly. I love reading these "little known facts".

Dave is quite used to a slight winter fuzz on my legs. Ha!

I love eggs, but could easily live without milk.

I love Christmas cards, but haven't sent any out for the last two years. I've gotten lazy!

I've been wearing contacts since I turned 18. Wait til you get my age and they try to fit you in multifocal contacts (and I wear toric lenses!). Not fun.

Your punch bowl story is hilarious. I can see both you and Jamie behind it!

Jodi and I always talk about church on Mondays. I love having her there with me!

Although I read your post and thought we must have been separated at birth, I see I'm not alone in sharing similarities with you! I too am blind as a bat (have been since 5th grade), I hate to read, and I'm very shy in a room full of people I don't know. We are polar opposites on the leg shaving thing! I look forward to winter so I can mark that chore off my list. Terrible, I know! Thanks for sharing, very interesting!

I am just like you about the social situations! Loved reading your list and hearing about your Thanksgiving! I love the pic of you and Scott and Dawson...and LOVE even more thinking about next year when the cutest little girl EVER will be there, too!
Love ya!
