Here Comes the Bride

I'm in my mid 30's so I have been out of the wedding circuit for quite a while. In fact, I think I've been to two weddings in the last 4 years. But this summer is the summer of weddings for me and I love it.
This weekend a girl I sing in the choir with at church is getting married and I'm looking forward to her wedding. I know it will be fun. She is marrying a media guy from our church and his sister went to OBU with me. I'm going to help serve food at the wedding and tomorrow night, they are going to have her lingerie shower at my house. I'm not really doing much besides providing my house and helping with the food.
I've already shopped several times trying to find something to buy her and it has stressed me out. It's hard to buy personal items for someone else. I don't want to get anything TOO crazy but I don't want to buy grandma pj's either. I'm going to make my last attempt tonight to find the right gift. Has anyone else had this problem?
I'll have pictures to post of the party and wedding this weekend. It should be a lot of fun.

I know what you mean - one of my friends had a lingerie shower last spring.

Honestly, I think Target has some really cute stuff and its not too
flashy. If you live near a Steinmart - they also have nice things that are practical as well.

Do you have a Gap Body near you? That is where a bunch of people got things for my lingerie shower and they are all cute things that I will acutally wear. Not at all grandma and not at all trashy! Good luck!

I'm not that big of a Victoria Secret's fan, but you could always get her the great smelling body lotions, bubble baths and shower gels. And maybe some candles to go with it? That would be a different twist from the traditional lingerie?

Kelly,

Hi! I have been reading your blog for a while now and figured it was time to comment. I LOVE your blog. You just seem like such a sweet and fun person. I love your devotion and faith as well. You seem to have such sweet spirit. Even though I don't know you, I can "feel" it through your blog.

I just had to leave a comment about buying a lingerie gift for your friend. I say get something PRACTICAL. I don't know about anyone else, but I have been married for 4 years and I still have lingerie from my party that still has never been worn. HA! Yes, it is all pretty and yes some have been worn, BUT it's just not practical in my opinion. I mean, it all comes off in like 30 seconds anyway!! =) My favorite gifts were the practical ones. Ya know, like the 2 piece outfits that had a cute tank top and shorts(kinda like boxers)with it. I also got bath gift sets too, which I loved.

Anyway, that is just my opinion.I am sure whatever you pick out she will love. Hope you don't mind me leaving a comment. Sorry, I know it was a book!

Aww... I am so sad that I am not going to be able to make it to Mandy's wedding. We both sang in the youth band when I went to FBC. Love that girl! Take lots of pics... :)

I think VS has some tasteful stuff.... I have also had luck with Belk and Dillards. Hope you have luck... It is hard; because there is that fine line between classy and trashy in the lingerie department.

If I was in this situation where I did not really know what the person would like, then I would stick with a gift card for a lingerie place. I am a gift card lover and so I would totally go that route.

Lingerie showers are hard! I think it is very difficult to pick out clothing (especially lingerie) for another woman. I have given lingerie bags (for washing intimates in the washing machine) and Woolite. If you're going to purchase lingerie, I'd suggest going for either a very short simple chemise, or cute cotton flirty pj's...something that's still sweet & feminine, but will actually be useful. A romantic CD or an iTunes gift card would also be fun, since music can contribute to romance. Another wonderful and creative gift is a Christian book about intimacy in marriage...there should be several at the local Christian bookstore. Good luck finding something...and have fun!

One of my favorite pieces I have now is a short cotton spaghetti strap gown from Old Navy. It is comfortable, practicle, and still a little appealing!! It is hard to find just the right piece. I agree with Lauren above....fine line between trashy and classy.

I can never have too many BATHROBES! I love them to pieces.

At my lingerie shower, one of my favorite gifts was scented drawer liners. I don't know why, but I LOVED it. I think they were lavendar, or something like that. Anyway, obviously, I don't use them anymore since we've moved, but some of my lingerie STILL smells like that! I love it!

Oh, and one of the girls threw in a pair of granny panties in with her gift. It was HYSTERICAL!! Everyone was CRACKING UP when I pulled them out of the bag!

Robes or bath wraps are also a great gift.

ps. I had no idea that Eric and his wife moved to Centerton. I think they have a baby now, too. His wife was VERY sweet. I always liked her a lot. She was AWESOME with kids and is probably a fabulous mommy. That's funny that y'all were close friends in high school!

We just had a lingerie shower for a young girl here at work. I found some really tasteful things at Dillards. We each got a color that we had to buy so that was alot of fun too.

You could just be really funny and do a gag gift(along with a real one, if that makes you feel better) At my lingeri shower, I received BIG underware (I was tiny then), I don't know the size of your friend though, so you don't want to offend. I also had silly stuff..like my sis in law took a pair of thongs and glued red little pom pom balls along the trim of them. Someone gave me tweety bird thongs too. A simple, yet elegant nighty works well too..Target has nice ones..
Good luck..

I don't ever get anyone anything racy, but more practical. I am not very racy either, so it wouldn't look right me getting her that! I usually get cute panties and a little tank top of sorts. Target usually has cute things! Good luck!

I would go the practical route. I think cute cami/shorts sets are nice or a flirty babydoll (they are on sale at victoria's secret right now). Good luck!

Vera Wang makes a line of lingerie that is very tasteful and elegant. They sell it at the Belk's here in Charlotte. Good luck! I can't wait to hear about the party!

Kelly, I don't know if you have a Kohl's near you but if you do I would recommned checking out the Simply Vera Wang sleepwear. I bought a few of the pieces and love them! Pretty, taseful, comfy, soft. And who doesn't want Vera Wang for their wedding LOL!!

I have had that problem before and I ended up getting a really pretty gown that was short. Does that help. Not sleezy but pretty. Tasteful.

I can't wait to see the wedding weekend pictures. I felt really old a few weekends ago when we attended one of our kids' babysitter's wedding! I loved it though--like you said, I've been out of the wedding circuit for several years now, but I miss it (and I miss eating the cake--ha!)

Hi,

I don't know if other people use these but I love the bath towels with the velcro top. (I'm sorry that I don't know what they are called) They are great when you are getting ready in the morning and are easy to wash. I received one of these at my lingerie shower and I just love it. -L

Everyone has such good suggestions. My suggestion is to go to 'All About Her' at 'Village on the Creeks' and get her some Hanky Panky thongs. They are 'one size fits all' so you don't have to worry about her size. They are the most comfortable thong I have ever worn. Plus they are lacy, pretty practical b/c she can wear them whenever, and they have tons of cute colors. And I have heard that Jessica Simpson wears them. Rachel got me some for my lingerie shower and I wear them weekly.

Hmmm...well since I'm soon to be married...I'm pretty sure I would rather have something cute and practical. At least that's what I keep telling everyone. :) And if I remember correctly Megan and I got you something that was just that...plus hog wild!

Hi Kelly, I found you and dont remember how but Im glad I did. My husband is the biggest HOG'S fan ever. He is from Eldorado and moved down here after college. He is now surrounded by LSU tigers... Our daughter is so confused =). He would love to take her "home" one day so they could call the hogs together. Nice to meet you, Susie H

A really great, cute comfortable, soft, night gown to sleep in. They have some at Target. I got a couple at my shower. It was so good to get them because you at that type of shower you receive so much of the same 'lingerie' type outfits it was nice to get something a little different!

Hey Kelly~ I think I'd go with a gift card or a basket of assorted candles, lotions, bath items, etc. I always find it hard to shop for anything personal because I never know what to do with sizes.

A fun idea (which I'm sure may be too late, unless you have a machine that will do this) is to have a monogrammed robe. Or even monogrammed towels. That's a fun and practical gift too.

Can't wait to see the pictures.

I agree about the couples devotion book or even a "Choose your date" idea book - they usually have them at Borders, etc. They are really cool - they are sealed closed and there are specific ones for the man or woman (whoever is in charge to the date that night). Some of them are really spicy but fun.

Sounds like a lot of fun! I know what you mean about trying to buy someone something like that! That is hard! I've had the same problem! Size, color, sexy-ness, granny-ish? It's not easy!

HAVE FUN!

This is true, it's refreshing being invited to a wedding shower as opposed to a baby shower every now and then :)
Yeah, I have the same problem you do...I'm really conservative with that stuff...so for my college roommate's bridal shower I got her a little sleeping mask that said "bride" in rhinestones...I also got her some lingerie soap all from Victoria's Secret. She asked me if I would be offended if she exchanged it in the middle of opening it!!! I was mortified!!! hahahaha

I vote for a Victoria's Secret gift card. It's not personal but then she can pick something she likes or even needs!~Amanda

I just bought my friend and her new hubby a personalized sign from Etsy.com. It had their name and the date of their marriage... "Matt and Rose June 7, 2008" And I liked other that had their last name and then 'established 2008"
Just an idea! I love weddings too!

I recently went to a shower for an outdoorsy girl I work with. It was so difficult for me because everything I found was too girlie. I ended up getting her an orange nightie from Victoria Secret and saying it was hunter orange! :)
I think you have good judgement so you'll find the perfect gift!
