Hair Crisis

My hair has grown out longer than it's been in years but it has taken a beating from the hair color, hair dryer and the Chi. It is just fried on the ends.
I really like having it longer but I'm going to have to do something.
I have a hair appointment tonight at 5:30 and I need advice - please vote on the top right of my blog!
Keep in mind that my hair is naturally wavy and very coarse AND that I will be going to Hawaii in 6 weeks. I'm trying to keep that in mind. Humidity, people. Consider the humidity!

LONG????

SHORT???

I LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUR HAIR SHORT. OK I VOTE FOR THE DO THAT YOU HAVE IN YOUR MAY 2006 PHOTOS FROM HAWAII..THE ONE WITH THE FLOWER SHIRT ON AND YOUR PUPPY. THAT IS SUCH A GREAT LOOK!!!!!!!!

I have thick wavy hair. It is very hard for me to control in the Summer.
I have it highlighted every now and again. I use a product that helps the hari from drying out when I use hot items on it (dryer and flat iron).
One of my big concerns is being able to pull it back becaue in the heat and humidity it is easier to control that way.

I totally understand your predicament. But I don't know what advice to give. I love the short look but I've always regretted when I've gone drastic. My hair dries out to due to color and chi. I regret cutting my hair shorter. Maybe you could start out with a few inches and possibly work your way up to the shorter length??? Now, you've got me all stressed???!!!!

You are a beautiful creation of God so no matter what you do, you will still be the radiant person I see.

p.s. I do make a vote for NOT cutting bangs. I'm a huge fan of all one length hair and sometimes bangs are the darndest to grow back out.

I vote for a bob! I just got mine cute into a modified bob (that's my way of saying shoulder length). It will always grow back - why not?

by the way....in november of 07 i cut my hair off. like 8 inches because i was over-processed and stuff. My hair has been in great shape ever since..and now i am growing it back out. But it was so liberating to get the length off..i felt like my personality perked up hahahahhaha

DO IT
DO IT
DO IT

hahahahhaha

I don't know you, but it looks like you have really good hair. You are very fortunate that you could wear it both ways and having it looking fabulous. However, I happen to love your short bob with whispy long bangs to the side. I just recently cut my hair to a bob ( 5 inches off) and it feels great! It is very refreshing for summer and much easier to manage. My philosophy is, it is just hair and it will grow back. LOL GO FOR IT!!!!! Just one question though...... what will your husband say if you cut it? Most men love longer hair on women.....

SHORT SHORT SHORT!!!! I was just thinking about what I want to do with my hair - it grows crazy fast, and that's why I'm always doing fun stuff with it! I love bangs, but they aren't for everyone! I can't wait to see what you do!!!!!!

I love the picture of your short hair!!

I feel like I could have written this post word for word! I am often in the same situation. Maybe you could start by cutting off a few inches and then see how you feel? The only thing I would be worried about is not being able to put my hair in a ponytail.

Cut it off! I love that short cut on you! And I totally understand about the humidity, but when I was in FL a couple of years ago and used my chi my hair stayed straight all day.

Oh man, this is such a hard decision because it looks so lovely both ways!! I have been where you are, and it is my belief that when you get to the place where you feel you might want to make a big change--you should totally GO FOR IT. I have had great success with this mindset.

But seriously--you'll look great either way, my friend. :)

I think your long hair is really, really pretty. But you are so beautiful that either way looks great.

Ok...I like it long and short! Maybe just get an inch cut off for now and when you come back from HI get is short! I also vote for you going back to your natural color (not the gray...dark brown). I know you probably won't ever do that but I had to throw it out there!

While you look so great both ways, I vote to keep growing it!

My hair is the SAME exact as yours. Naturally wavy, a little damaged from color treatments, and way frizzy in humidity...what I did was had my guy put a conditioning treatment on it. It was a little pricey but so worth it!

Then I use the humidity treatment stuff and leave-in conditioner from Aveda and a really good hair straightener. Every now and then I'll do an at home conditioning
treatment too.

You could also look into some foods or vitamins that are good for hair health or something?

Long hair is not as high maintenance because it's so easy to put it up, and you could even get your hairdresser to show you great ways to wear it wavy...like on rainy days I just put some Be Curly from Aveda and let it go. No diffuser or gel or anything. So easy!

Good luck, can't wait to see!!!

I think your hair looks great now, but it also looks super cute short. I would not go short right now due to your trip. I always pull my hair back when I go to the beach. I agree with the previous person that said get a little cut now and maybe go short later!

Mandy said...

My hair is just like yours!! I think your hair looks super cute either way but I know from past experiences, it seems like I have more trouble controlling my hair when it is short. It seems like the length helps weigh it down and keeps it less frizzy!!

Hey Kelly, I really like the shorter cut on you. It looks so chi. And it might be easyer to take care of. Yes, most guys love the long hair but you are the one who has to take care of it. What does Scott think? Can't wait to see what you do. K.Barnes

I vote for a short cut. Then you can get it back into condition and let it relax when you are on your trip! Relaxed hair...relaxed body...Vacation...aaahhhhh!

Why not try a cut and a new all one color style?? It's only hair and if you don't like it, it will certainly grow back!

Leslie said...

I would suggest not doing anything too drastic, maybe just a couple of inches. You can always go shorter, but once you cut it to a bob, there is no going back(eventually it will grow, but in the mean time). However, you are so cute, you could anything with your hair and it would be adorable!

Jennifer said...

You look great with both styles, but I'll vote for the short. Main reason that if your hair is fried on the bottom it'll cut out all the dead stuff and then regrow better.

Plus I think the shorter will be nice in the hotter/warmer weather.

Can't wait to see the final pics!

I have to say, I LOVE your hair short, but in terms of going to Hawaii...you may want to keep it longer (I have similar hair!). It's not coarse but it's frizzy. Then cut it when you get home!

I have been reading your blog and LOVE it. I have no idea how I found it - I hope you don't mind I am randomly commenting. It is funny that you wrote this today, because I am in the same predicament and we have similar hair cuts and hair and was trying to decide what to do with mine! I think your hair looks absolutely precious both ways - but I know I like to keep things easy, and for me, ponytails are so easy in the summer (vacations, being outdoors, etc.). You can always cut your hair after you come back from your fun trip. Either way, you are going to be adorable - both look great on you in the pictures. Good luck! ;)

Leigh Ann said...

Oh,my friend, I feel your humidity problem. Maybe cut just a few inches for your trip. That way you can still pull it back while in HI. Then, when you get back you could do that ADORABLE bob.

Jamie said...

I say cut a few inches and bangs.

How cute are you! I love that we can vote on your page!! I voted for short!! Love to ya!

Biosilk Silk Therapy Serum will be your friend. It's sort of expensive but totally worth the investment. The great thing about is, you can use it on wet or dry hair and you won't look like a greasy rat. It's perfect to use with the chi.

I have been lurking since around Christmas (found you through Mer @ Life at 7000 feet). I thought I would post now b/c I too am having hair delimas.

I really like you hair length in about me section. Good luck on your decision. :o)

As a fellow coarse, wavy and thick haired girl...I say don't cut it short...it is always much harder for me to get mine to get flat and straight the shorter it is! So..my suggestion is cut an inch or so and see if that helps! Good luck!

Hi Kelly,
I have been reading your blog for about a week now and decided to comment today! Here is what I think: 1. You are very lucky because it looks like your hair looks good both long and short 2. I think you should keep it long for the trip to Hawaii. My hair is naturally wavy also and does better in the humidity when it is long! Good Luck!

Stephanie Kay said...

The bob is so cute!! BUT. Given you upcoming trip it really depends on if you'd prefer to pull it back in a ponytail or spend lots of time trying to get it straight. Only you can answer that. Me? I'd rather pull 'er back for the vacation and then bob it when you get back.

I'm thinking I might bob mine in a week or two.

Love the short hair.

Shannon said...

Yes I got them at Oops and I couldn't believe it!!! The week before I had seen them at Party House in Fayetteville for $30 each and almost bought them. It was crazy! :)

Huse Yo Mama said...

I would say short, since that is way cute and I love short hair. But, having thick, coarse, wavy hair myself, I know that in Hawaii, you'll want to just put it up in a ponytail at some point, right? But you're probably not like me and too lazy to fix your hair every day!

ashleydiggs said...

I cut 5 inches off of mine YESTERDAY!!! My philosophy is it's just hair!!! I'm loving it!

The Garners said...

Oh, I don't know--I truly love your hair both ways! I will say that I've loved having a shorter, easier haircut myself. I do miss the pony tail option (which I way over-used), but it would be really cute for you to go short for the summer (plus, with the chi, it will probably seem extra easy and stylish!) Go for it! :)

Cut it short! So becoming to your face. I finally figured out who you remind me of (Lisa Whechel, Blair from the Facts of Life, she is such a beautiful Christian Woman) Have fun!!

I voted long, but saw that it looks like a majority said short. You'd look gorgeous either way. Maybe do a Victoria Beckham cut.

I think your hair looks great either way! It looks adorable in the bob! Of course, I'm partial to a bob because that's really the only way I can wear my straight as a board, thin, flat hair. So, I don't have any advice about which would be better for the texture of your hair, but it sure does look cute both ways!
Can't wait to see what you decide!

Jill said...

Cut it! I love the short look, it's so trendy!!! If you get brave & get some bangs, I highly recommend that you stop at Walmart afterwards and get some bobbie pins b/c by the end of the day...they start to get annoying!!! I love haircut days, have fun!!!

Heather said...

I vote for keeping it long and trimming an inch or so. Ponytail in Hawaii on the beach..fabulous!!

Heather said...

I agree with everyone else. You look beautiful either way! If I had to choose, however, I would go with short. If you don't like it, it'll grow back. After all, you onlt live once!

Betsy said...

Take it from another coarse, wavy haired friend...DON'T cut it too short!! At least leave it long enough to put up in a pony tail. Humidity is not our friend!! :( It will be hard to control if it's too short! But you look really cute both ways!

amy (metz) walker said...

Ok, I think you look really great either way...but like you I have hair that's got curl to it and is more course. I think you just have to weigh out whether the "throwing it up in a ponytail" option is worth losing in the name of a "stylish bob".

I'm more of the whatever's easiest type...

Julie said...

What dress did you get at Wal-Mart? There was a black and white one I almost bought if it would have been longer and covered my fat leg!! Ha Ha.

I'm a little nervous. My vote is loosing :(

Peyton said...

I totally agree that you look super-cute and stylish with both hairstyles. I am partial to the bob since that is what I have myself and I love it. And you look so cute and sassy with shorter hair. However, I think only you know what's really best for you. Go with your intuition and you're sure to look fabulous no matter what!

Fran said...

For me I'm a long hair girl...I think both look great on you....go short again and then it will always grow out if you don't like it anymore! :)

Anonymous said...

I voted a short bob bc you look too cute and I wished I had cut mine that short when I had mine done last week! It'll always grow back!!

The Milams said...

I love it short. I would so have a short do if I didn't have the fattest face known to man.;)

I am dying to see what you ended up doing, so, don't forget to post!

Ooooh! I'm too late, but I can't wait to see what you did!! I'm in the same boat. Mine has never been this long and it's just to the point of being ragged. I've got an appointment next Saturday and I haven't decided what I want to do!!
