Figs and Shoes

Well the first of summer has found us hanging out.  ha!

Our first few days have been really nice.  We have taken our mornings slow and I've been able to get a lot done while we have been home but we have tried to find some fun.  We had a gift card to Barnes and Noble so I took the kids to get a few new books.  To my happiness, they spent all morning reading instead of watching TV.  We will be hitting the library soon.

I have been wanting a Fiddle Leaf Fig tree forever.  I love how they look but they can be kind of costly and I'm a black thumb.  So I hate to light my money on fire.  But I heard a few people saying they had found them at Walmart so I finally found one and it was $13!! I love it! I already had the basket and it was full of old magazines that I recycled and put the plant in it.  Let's see how long I can keep it alive!

Today I had a lot of work to do and a full day of errands.  These three were such great troopers.  It can be hard to take three kids on a bunch of stops but at least for today it went just fine.

I get a lot of direct messages on instagram asking me about my kids shoes for summer and what they wear.  So I thought I would list my favorites.  Now in the picture above - all the shoes came from Walmart.  Usually for summer - I get two solid pairs of shoes and a pair of flip flops for the beach/pool.  And maybe some cheapies for every day.

For the girls - I always get a pair of sun sans.  I also get a pair for Will Holden.  For years, I always got white for the girls but this year I got all 3 kids a pair of tan sun sans.  They hold up so well and look good with casual shorts and Sunday dresses.  They are worth the money to me.

The other shoe I really love for summer is a good pair of chacos.  I have a pair that I got probably 5 years ago and they were worth every penny.  They are still almost new and I have worn them in the lake and ocean and pool and dirt and mud and trail walked and foreign countries.  I like them for kids because they can get wet or dirty and be washed and they are great for everything we do.  But I don't want to pay $60 when they will grow out of them after a few months.  I usually have great luck getting a used pair off eBay.  I got Harper's blue pair this year for $20.  I washed them when I got them and they were like new.  Then I went in one of our local resale shops and found the other pair and got those too.   Last year I got both girls a pair of Tevas which were great also.  They run more like $40 and because of the straps can last a little longer.

The shoes that Will Holden wears almost always are Natives.  I LOVE them.  He can put them on himself and they are great for getting dirty or wet.  I wash them in the dishwasher.
