Age is just a number

Today I turn 36 and I'm having a little bit of a hard time realizing I'm closer to 40 than to 30. I always thought when I turned 30 I would have to lock myself away in a dark room and spend about a week crying but I had just gotten married weeks before so I was a happy newlywed and could have cared less that I had entered my 30's.
And then I thought when I turned 35. Yikes 35 .....that just sounds so old. But I was weeks away from having my precious baby and I could not have been happier.

And this year? Well - in my head I'm 25. I look in the mirror lately and I see wrinkles and gray hair and a face that isn't as young as it used to be (probably mostly to a LOT of laying out in my 20's) and I should be sad. But this year has been the BEST year I have ever had. I am so blessed I can barely understand it. Every dream I ever had has come true and MORE! I could not have dreamed the things that have happened to me this year. And I'm okay with 36.

When I was in my 20's - I was VERY insecure. I worried so much about how I looked or what people thought of me. I have found in my 30's I am worrying a lot more about what God thinks of me. I worry a lot more about what other people are going through than I do about how much the scale said this morning. I'm thankful God has changed my perspective. I'm thankful for each day I have.
And let's face it - I would rather be 36 than this awkward 13 year old EVER again!!! Can I get an amen? All I can say when I see this picture is "Bless your sweet heart 13 year old Kelly". Awkward was my middle name. (Still is).

If you want to see more horrid pictures of me and get a good laugh ......you can venture over to my mom's blog where there are some pictures only a mother could love. ha!

Your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be. Psalm 139:16

Happy Birthday, Kelly! May God bless your upcoming year as richly as He blessed your previous year:)
And I can only pray that I look as awesome as you do at 36- hello! :) I've said this before, but you don't even look like you old enough to be 30. God bless you and your family!

Happy Birthday, Kelly! I have been reading your blog since the summer and have come out of being a lurker to wish you a very happy birthday! I recently just created my own blog and so it seems easier to leave comments now. You may be 36 today, but you are such an inspiration to so many and each year that you live adds to the lovely inspiration you give to others! Plus, you have an ADORABLE baby to keep you young! Thank you for all of encouragement you provide to the younger and single readers! Your blog is such a favorite of mine! Hope you are having a fabulous birthday celebrating with your cute little family!

Happy Birthday, Kelly!! Honey, you are beautiful inside and out. Thirty-six never looked so good!!! I'm like you......I wouldn't want to be ages 12-14 again for love or money. Thank goodness that phase passes!

This is your first birthday as a mama! (Well, one where Harper is on the outside:) You are just getting started!!!!!

Happy Birthday Kelly! I found it comforting that you no longer feel awkward looking because I am 20 and I feel awkward EVERYDAY! It is so nice to know that I might grow out of it and feel more comfortable in my own skin.

Happy Birthday Kelly!! I hope you enjoyed your day. I loved your post and your mom's post! I think we all go through our awkward years. I don't think I would be brave enough to post pics of me at age 12 and I'm only 24! Lol.
BTW, I loved how you said you worry about how God thinks about you. I need to think about that more often. I'm so glad this has been the best year of your life! Hope you have many many more!

when i started following your blog I thought you were my age and I just turned 25!!! I freak out each year on my birthday, it's SO hard to get older! I know the ultimate goal is Heaven but sometimes that scares me! I guess that's immaturity on my part and I found it comforting to hear you say that in your 30s you're more concerned about what GOD thinks of you...that's something I need to work on for sure! Happy Birthday!

Happy belated Birthday Kelly! I will be 28 on the 26th and I'm having a hard time approaching 30 and still being single, etc. I just keep reminding myself that I'm a late bloomer and it will come in time! Have a very Merry Christmas!

Kelly- 36 is a GREAT age! You'll be shocked by how young 36 sounds just 4 or 5 years from now. Think about how old 26 seemed to you at the time- and now doesn't it sound SO YOUNG? I am 41 (and shocked by that every time I type it) and at 36, I had a one-year-old and had just gotten pregnant with baby #2. By 39, I had 3 beautiful kids (girl-boy-girl.) So we'll look like grandmas when they graduate from college- so what? I wouldn't trade a minute of this wonderful ride! Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday (a few days late!)!!! My son's birthday is the 28th, so we have that Christmas/birthday thing going on in our house, too. And my sister just gave birth to her first child on Christmas Eve, a couple days ago!!! Anyway, I check in on your blog every once in a while and catch up (have since Harper was born)... I have friends that follow you. All this time I thought you were only 20-something!!! Now I feel even that I have more in common with you... I was 36 when our first child was born (he'll be 13 on Monday!)... and I became a sahm that year. We have 3 now. Such fun times. Blessings!!!

Happy Belated bday! I too turn 36 pretty soon(april 11th) and I feel more confident and well just plain happier than I did in my 20's! Bring on the digits! :o)
I was in the car line waiting to pick up my oldest from school and I noticed 2 gray hairs on my temples...I started shouting...'wait i was only supposed to have them on top of my head...." LOL
