Oh What a Beautiful Morning

My plans for today got cancelled so we turned this into a day at home (for the most part). Harper is down for a nap right now and I know that my two projects for the week are the yard and the closet but right now I'm so tired I think I'm going to lay on the couch and watch a DVR'd show and nap myself (when I finish this post). Now not only does Harper get up every few hours but she has decided that 5:30 is a great time to start the day. I got her to stay in bed until 6 this morning but that was it. The child has NO NEED for sleep.
I have a new guest post on my bank's blog about getting rid of debt - you'll have to check it out and let me know what you think! I'm always still open to suggestions on any money topics you might have for future posts there.
So many of you asked where my friend Melissa got Harper's hair band - and this is WHERE!

Okay - ya'll really made me feel like I could try a scarf so I got a $5 scarf at Wal-Mart and decided to try and wear it today. Because Harper and I had to go to where else - Wal-Mart for groceries this morning. I couldn't find my little camera so I could take a picture but my video camera was laying out so I took a little video. This could not be cheesier but I'll put it on here anyway. I'm also trying to remind myself that the camera adds 10 pounds (or is it 25?) ha!
P.S. See the rose in a vase on my kitchen counter? Harper and I went for a walk this morning in this beautiful fall weather (and Dawson tagged along too) and my neighbor came out and cut me a rose from one of her bushes. What a great way to start my week!

P.P.S. I'm sorry my filming skills remind you of the Blair Witch Project. And also - it cracks me up when I wear something new - Harper will stare at it. Yesterday I wore a flower band in my hair to church and Harper kept looking up at it and then looking at me and she would just smile. I can't wait until she can make little comments on how I look - even though I know they may be too honest! ha!

Hope your week is off to a great start also!

I can relate to the sleep deprivation! I about fell over when I took Lincoln for his 6 month checkup and the doctor told me most babies his age get 5-6 hours of sleep during the day and 8-10 at night. In my dreams!

If you take the scarf, and fold it in half (length wise), then put it around your neck, and put the two free ends through the loop you've created on the other end, you'll get that 'look' the cool kids can pull off with the scarfs.

I hope that made sense. LOL!

Kelly,

You look so cute in a scarf. I wear mine wrapped loosely around my neck. I start it in the front at the 1/2 way point, cross it in the back and bring it around front. It hangs really nice and keeps my neck warm when it is breezy out. I never wear it really tight around my neck, just a little loose, sort of like a cowl neck. Try that and see if you like it. It looks adorable!!

Have fun...scarves really make an old outfit feel new and a boring outfit exciting!!

I thought that your bank post was perfect! People need to pay off debt and giving them a possible way of doing it. My hubby and I came into our marriage with a bit of debt (me more than him). But this is exactly what we did. (We're both bankers so we sat down at the computer and put it all into an Excel sheet.) This has helped us get to the point of only one credit card that will be paid off next month and a car that will be paid off in two months!

Paying off debt is so freeing! Ahhh!

On another note, you're video is so cute!

Speaking of Harper's cuteness, I've had a few questions for you. First, where do you get her awesomely adorable clothes? She's got such style! Secondly, where do you get the clips for her hair, and HOW do you get them to stay in?!? Thirdly, where do you get all of her awesome headbands? And lastly, please share how you edit your photos to make them look the way they do (the ones with the pink undertones).

THanks!!!

Your bank post came at the perfect time for our family - we are just beginning to read and follow Dave Ramsey's plan of debt reduction and "financial peace." i had to laugh at wishing harper could tell you what she think about what you are wearing. bookmark this post, girl, because there will come a day when she is brutally honest about you and what you're wearing in public and how you are ruining her life!! ha! (but i'm sure that harper would never think such things or even consider dissing her momma. . . )
i love your stories and even silly posts about scarf wearing and going to walmart and sams. . . i'm still struggling with my empty-nestness (and yes, i'm crying) and so i'm eating up your blog like it's mommy crack.
thanks so much for entertaining me!

Kelly, I just bought my first scarf at Old Navy for $10. I LOVE it. I decided to give the whole scarf thing a try. I see so many wearing them, they are definitely the "in" accessory. Yours looks great, especially with the purple shoes.

As far as her sleep is going... look at how many hours total she is getting in a day. She might be telling you that she is ready for only an afternoon nap or a shorter nap in the morning. My son Kaleb did something very similar to me and when I cut out the morning nap (I am assuming she is taking two naps, one in the morning and one in the afternoon) he started sleeping MUCH better at night. And his afternoon nap was even a bit longer and better quality. He did this to me at 7 months.

Also note that when he would go through a growth spurt he would add the nap back in. Just look at the total amount of sleep she is getting and what time she goes down at night and that might explain the early rising.

The headband is so cute, and I love the scarf! I need to definitely get one for the fall. Maybe it would take the attention away from my growing belly!

Especially love the first pic of Harper--she is getting so big. I can't see videos here at work, but will check it out tonight. :) Hope Miss Harper learns how to sleep...funny that in 13 years (or less), you won't be able to WAKE HER UP! :)

Hi Kelly, First off LOVE your blog!! I have been reading it for a little less than a year and its so amazing. I am sure you hear it constantly but your amazing and so is your testimony as a Christian women! I am only 18 and new to this whole blogging thing but love it so far. Your blog is one that has inspired me to blog and share my story. I have never been the typical college girl and into the typical things, I have always felt more mature and what not. SO when I found blogs like yours, and Angies I was so happy to see there are amazing Christian women out there willing to share their lives and testimonies with younger Christian women like myself. I am sure you never guessed last year some random teen was following your blog lol, and while I have not gone through a lot of the things you have I really appreaciate your story and your blog. Your a great example to young women like me, and I hope to one day be the same :o). My reason for blogging was not only to share my opinions and for fun of course :o) but also to share my story of weight loss and hope to inspire other teens girls like myself. In the last nine monnths I have lost 147lbs and I hope to be able to one day use my testimony of how I have done it and how God impowered me to do with other teens and kids who struggle. Anyways thanks again for your blog :o), hope mine might have 1/3 of the impact yours has one day!
~Kassey
p.s. Love you scarf and Wal-Mart's 5 dollar scarves, reading your blog has made me love Wal-mart even more lol :D!

Hi Kelly,
May I suggest that you give Harper a bedtime snack to help her sleep better? Hunger may be the reason she is waking up. Try something with protein like a bit of cheese, yogurt( full fat), cereal or meat. It's just an idea...

Keris said...

The scarf is very cute! I don't think it's nearly as cute as Harper, though! Wal-Mart is our second home, too! My sister cracks up because she always seems to call when I am there! hehe :)

Sorry Harper isn't much of a sleeper. I know how that feels. My oldest is 10, and if she ever sleeps through the night, I'll let you know! HA! Seriously, she only needs about 4-6 hours a night. You'll get used to it eventually.

Love your bank blog. I made an excel spreadsheet with all of my family's debt. Each month I noted what I wanted the balance to be, decreasing it each month. Being competitive by nature, I wanted to beat the goal I set for myself and our family. We have paid off cars, student loans and have paid down our mortgage as well this way. There was just something about seeing it and realizing that it could be done.

Kelly, you look awesome in the scarf! Hope the video I sent you over helped some..a lot of it is just confidence as it can feel strange at first wearing accessories you aren't used to! I love accessories and scarves are a blast, they can liven up lots of dresses and tops (and keep your neck warm too!) Harper is so adorable!

Oh yes! One day you will wish she would keep her comments to herself. LOL!
I always tell my little girl, "You are growing so big!" Well, when she was around 3 years old, she was following me up the stairs. In her little sweet voice she said, "Mommy, your bottom is growing so big!"
Yep, out of the mouth's of babes!

Yesterday when you wrote that you couldn't wear scarves, I thought, "wha?? huh???" 'cause you are waaaaaay to cute to not pull off a scarf. I just knew it and when I saw you today on your video, yup, it's confirmed. You're absolutely precious. Harper gets it honest.

A few things...

first of all, I love the scarf! Maybe I will rethink my thought on wearing a scarf...you might just be my "secret weapon!"

Secondly...I admire the fact that you are not scared beside yourself to let Harper play with that roll of toilet paper. (Although, to be fair, I have only had trouble with toilet paper bandits with my boy, so go figure...)

The two of you are absolutely adorable in your fall clothes! It's always a bright spot in my day to stop by your korner!

You are just too cute! Thanks for sharing the video. Harper looks like one happy girl. :)
I also just bought my first "fashon scarf" from Nordstrom Rack ($6) and it has been hanging ever since. I just feel like a big dork when I wear it... but everyone else looks cute in them! Go figure.
