Show Us Your Life - Wedding Receptions and Honeymoon

Show Us Your Life with Kelly‘s Korner

BIG Thanks to Tricia who designed this new button - the code is on the right!!!!

Tonight is the last of the Wedding Series. I don't have a whole lot of wedding reception pictures. We had our reception in the old sanctuary of my parent's church. It was really pretty. We had iron lanterns and fall leaves as centerpieces on the tables. The tables all had brown tablecloths. We had a lot of good food. This is us cutting our cake.
Our grooms cake was pretty - chocolate with grapes on it for a fall feel.
My big wedding cake
We honeymooned in Maui, Hawaii. We stayed at the Westin Maui.
I'm glad we are doing this because I haven't looked at our honeymoon pictures in probably 5 years and it was fun to look through them. Except for the fact that I realized how thin and tan I was on our honeymoon - that made me a little sad. ha! It was such a wonderful trip and we were SO happy!
Scott's favorite part of the day - breakfast buffet. ha!
One night on our way to dinner - Hawaii is SO romantic !
One of the pools at our hotel.
We rented a yellow convertible but we only had it one day of our vacation. So we really only got around to see the island for one full day. The rest of the time we just stayed at our hotel and ate at restaurants nearby. That was great and worked fine for us - we just wanted to relax but someday I'd like to go back to Maui and see more of the island.
Scott standing on one of the many beaches
Our favorite food in hawaii - Hula Pie!
This was on our dinner cruise. This was NOT romantic. We payed good money to go on this "dinner" cruise and they brought out stouffer's lasagna in tin pans and I got sick the minute I got on the boat and had to lay on the floor for the 3 hour cruise. We ended up getting McDonalds to go and going back to our hotel room so we could watch Arkansas play South Carolina in football (this was November). We played them in Little Rock on ESPN on a Thurs night on a cold night. It was very surreal sitting in our room at 4 in the afternoon and watching a live game being played in the dark with everyone wearing coats. ha!

Did anyone else go to Maui on your honeymoon? We loved it and it will always be a special memory for us. I always dreamed of going to Hawaii on my honeymoon and it was fun to make that dream a reality!!! It was totally worth waiting for!

I am getting married in September and we plan on going to Maui for our Honeymoon... We are trying to finalize hotel plans... Did you like the westin? Would you recommend it? Also are there any great restaurants you would recommend?

What beautiful pictures!! I wish we would have gone to Maui for our honeymoon. We had a horrible experience in the Virgin Islands...(hurricane hit while we were there, horrible food, etc)...
the highlight of our stay there was finding the McDonalds. We always joke around that our vacations can only get better after our experience in the Virgin Islands. haha :)

I would LOVE for us to go to Hawaii, but would need some good cost-cutting ideas while I'm still in school. Do you having any or is it just something that you save for and is well worth it? It looks so beautiful and romantic!!

Beautiful pictures!! I love the colors of your wedding. And I can't WAIT to get to Hawaii one day! Thanks for doing this wedding theme...it's been so much fun reminiscing and seeing everyone else's big day! :)

I am laughing that you took pics of the food even back then, B.B. (before blog)! I take pics of everything now, including food, because of my blog, but love that you've done that forever! ha...
Your pics are great! I want to go to Hawaii... your pics and the hula pie make me REALLY want to go! :)

Hey, My name is Jennifer and your blog is a daily read for me... My husband and I went to Maui too and stayed at the Westin, so I was like OMG, when I saw your pics... I think we took the exact same ones in the same exact spot... the only difference is that we rented a red convertable..(totally butchered that word)... so fun to see your pics!

My parents live on Maui so we go every year- we have been to the Westin many times. Hula pie ia also a coffee flavor. We have a dog named Hula pie.

Beautiful pictures- thanks for sharing.

jealous! gorgeous photos of hawaii, and i love your wedding cakes! so wish we could have gotten married in the fall (my fave season), but we were accomodating my teacher's schedule!

Thanks so much for your sweet comment! I am dying to get to Maui (my mom named our cat Maui because she loved the island so much) I'm sorry to hear about the dinner cruise :( That would be so disappointing. But the rest of your trip looked great!! Your reception and cake were beautiful as well :) Have a great night!

I love the groom's cake tradition. Evidently, it's a southern tradition - I introduced it to all of my 'northern' friends at our wedding (I grew up in AR - FSM to be exact)! My husband is allergic to dairy so his "cake" was really a (3-D) round, rice krispy treat decorated w/ fondant to look like a baseball. :) Fun stuff!

Great pictures - so jealous of your honeymoon!!

We went to Maui and Oahu for our honeymoon 8 years ago. We rented a convertible for our entire time there and LOVED it! We went snorkeling, helicopter ride, luau, and our favorite was the Heavenly Road to Hana! If you didn't do that, you must go back. I think I have that same teal sweater you have on. Funny! Our scanner is in storage so I haven't been able to participate but have enjoyed!

Emily said...

We went to Maui on our honeymoon too! We were at the Marriott, just down from the Westin! Didn't you LOVE Whaler's Village? It was so perfect...good food within walking distance! We did absolutely NOTHING...and loved it! Next time, we'll rent a car and explore also. Can't wait to go back!

Myra @ My Blessed Life said...

Kelly, I loved your reception pictures! I always wanted to get married in the fall, but didn't want to wait any longer! ha!

Your honeymoon looked AMAZING! You're not alone in being a "little sad" when looking back at wedding/honeymoon photos. I guess I can use it for motivation, huh?! I think you look great though! Having our babies in our arms makes it all worth it!

Anna said...

We went to Maui too! My most favorite place. We stayed at the Hyatt and would highly recommend it. You should go back and do the road to Hana!

Great reception pics!

We just went to Maui again this summer and stayed at the Maui, Westin Villas (time share part)and took all 3 kiddos! It was a blast and love it there!!!! Heck I think I could move there :o).

We went to Maui and Kauai for our honeymoon and stayed at the Sheraton right down the beach from the Westin. It was the best trip!! We've been back a couple times and it's never quite as great as the honeymoon was :) Love your pictures, you guys are cute!

Hi Kelly! I am new to your blog and I love love love it!! Your wedding was beautiful as well as you!

What beautiful pictures of Hawaii! I definitely want to look through mine again. And yes, it would make me sad too...it was the last time I ever wore a bikini, thanks to the marriage weight gain!! We went to Maui too, and we stayed at the Grand Wailea. And since we weren't old enough to rent a car (HA! You had to be 25 and we were 23!), we just ate at our resort and 4 Seasons. I think the Westin was close too! We loved it there and certainly hope to go back for an anniversary. Since the flight is rather brutal, we won't be going any time soon. I don't think Harper would handle that well!

Hi Kelly! I am not married and have not gone on a honeymoon (obviously :-) but I had to comment about watching college football on vacation. My cousin got married at Sandals Whitehouse, Jamaica (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!) and a bunch of us flew down for the wedding. The day we got there, my parents, sister and I sat in the game room and watched the Penn State/Wisconsin game live on the tv! So I totally understand (we are die hard PSU fans and went to Jamaica in October). Thank you for sharing your pictures and story!

You looked gorgeous! I have always wanted to go to Hawaii! Maybe one day :)

We don't have ANY pics from our honeymoon! (Don't know why I never realized that before.) I don't know if we even had a camera when we got married. I saved the tickets, etc. We went to Cancun and have been back to that area many times as a family with the kids. Want to go to Hawaii and will have to get tips from you!
Love ya,

We went to Maui for our honeymoon and stayed at the Fairmont Kea Lani!! We had the BEST time and we also rented a convertable (red), the only way to see the island!! We want to go back so bad!!

Anna said...

That's too funny! We went to Maui too and we rented a yellow convertible mustang too!! But we had it the whole week because we were in a condo and needed transportation. We also went on that horrible dinner cruise. We got seated with two young female escorts and the food/drinks were terrible. Thankfully we didn't get sick. That would have been terrible. Sadly we don't have pics - we borrowed my parents camera and when we got back my dad accidentally deleted them. Yikes! We don't talk about it. So fun to see your pics!!

Kacey said...

You guys look so happy!

We went to Maui for our honeymoon (in November as well!) and stayed near the Westin. Can't remember the name of the hotel, but it wasn't far from the Ka'anapali McDonald's where you probably ate! Our dinner cruise wasn't bad, but I got SO sick on our little snorkeling cruise...

L said...

My hubby and I went there and stayed at that same hotel and LOVED the breakfast buffet! We went on a dinner type cruise....and I was sick too..ugh! :) love looking back

I love it Kelly!!! We actually just cancelled a trip to Maui where we had reservations at the Westin. How funny! I just felt uncomfortable with all of that N. Korea missile stuff going on and leaving Lauren during that.

I LOVE your pictures. Maui looks gorgeous!

Pamela said...

We went to Maui as well on our Honeymoon but that was gees 8 years ago and hence no computer collection of pics to share. It is truly beautiful and sooo peaceful. We too rented a convertible but our was red. Our fave thing was going on the Whale watching cruise. I was in tears at WM when I got the pics back and they were double exposed even though they were taken with a camera that was suppose to prevent that.
Truly a magical place and we hope to take our boys there one day. We loved the Winery and even though we do not drink we brought back an entire box of Hawaiian wine. Still have most of it though I am sure it has expired by now.
Thanx for sharing and bringing back some great memories!

HULA PIE! It's my husbands absolute favorite! We actually got married at the Westin Maui... isn't it absolutely gorgeous? And I dream of Leilani's when my kids are driving me crazy!

My husband and I got married on Maui at the Grand Waelia (?sp) hotel. It was beautiful. We stayed there for a few days then went to Oahu for a week. We had both sets of parents and grandmothers with us, and YES we stayed in separate hotel rooms until we were married. We're old fashioned!!! I enjoy reading your blag daily!

MamaBear said...

I went to Hawaii(Honolulu in college - we were suppose to see a luau one night but right as we were getting off the bus the tire recycling plant next door started on fire and the sky was raining rubber chunks. No luau for us!

The other memorable moment was when one of the Navy guys we met who were docked there ran into a former classmate of his he hadn't seen since high school. Sad part was that she was a prostit*te now. :(

(we weren't 21 so our entertainment was walking around the streets people watching)

Anyway, I enjoyed seeing your pictures! One of these days I'll have to join in - your carnivals are always a great way to record things I want my kids to read about some day.

Have a great weekend and don't let that inbox keep you up at night :)

Kelly, what wonderful memories and pictures! Thanks for sharing God's goodness in your lives with us through your blog! How great that you guys were able to go to Maui! God does care about the desires of our hearts! We honeymooned in Colorado, because my husband was in medical school and it was all we could afford, but it was really perfect because all we cared about was being with each other. We are really hoping to go to Maui before our oldest graduates from highschool. We will have to remember The Westin when we make plans.

Harper looked so sweet and happy in her little My Little Pony outfit from your last blog.

Hi Kelly,
Well, I've never honeymooned on Maui (I'm not married--yet!) but I'm Native Hawaiian and have lived on Oahu my whole life. If you ever get the chance to come back, you should check out Oahu--lots more to do, and it's not just all hotels and "tourist land."

Hula Pie is not really Hawaiian, by the way. If you come to Oahu, you can try some of the real lu'au food: poi, kalua pig, laulau, etc. I would love to meet you and show you around! Hawaii is WAY more than just hotels and pools. :-)

Yes! We went to Maui for our honeymoon and stayed at the Hyatt. And I have zero pictures. What were we thinking? We're hoping to go back next summer and I will be taking a million pictures. And I can't wait to see my man behind the wheel of a red Mustang convertible. *Sigh*

Lynn said...

My wedding and honeymoon were a lot more low key. My parents didn't approve of my future husband and refused to go to the wedding. So my friends and new family helped pull it together. We couldn't afford to go anywhere that special, the Wisconsin Dells. But guess we did something right...we'll be celebrating our 33rd anniversary in a few weeks.
Know that I'm here praying!
Romans 8:15-18 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Unknown said...

we went to the Cayman Islands for our honeymoon and then went to Maui for our 5 year anniversary. I think we stayed in the same hotel as you...I've got to go pull out the pictures.

My teenager is scanning in all my old pics as her summer "job" but she hasn't gotten any wedding/honeymoon ones yet. I had 27 BOXES of pictures from the birth of my first child until today (14 years). It's almost 10,000 pics. I'm SO thankful for digital now!!

Wish I could link, but it will have to wait.

We went to Hawaii for our honeymoon. I let my husband pick the island since he had never been there and he wanted to go to Oahu so that's where we went. My sister and her husband went to Maui for their honeymoon. I love going to Hawaii. That is such a bummer about the dinner cruise! I can't believe they served you lasagna! I've been on a couple of them and they served pretty good food. My mom hates them because of the rocking of the boat-makes her seasick.

Great reception photos, Kelly! I love the bridal cake and grooms cake!! We also went to Hawaii on our honeymoon! We spent 2 days on Oahu and 4 days on Maui. Since then, we went back on our 10th anniversary (went to Kauai and Maui) and we discussed making it a 10 year tradition so we may be back in 3 years (and do Kauai and the Big Island)!

Katie said...

I would love to go to Hawaii one day. Everything looks so beautiful there! That stinks about your romantic dinner cruise. On our honeymoon, we were gifted with romantic dinner cruise reservations from Mike's company. So we get all dolled up and ready for a romantic evening, and when we show up to board the boat.....it's a pirate ship booze cruise type deal!!!! There were "pirates" running around with wooden swords (I swear some were cardboard) and they shot off bottle rockets off the side for cannons. The food was terrible and once it got dark they just blared bad music and it turned into some awful cheap club scene. We were, needless to say, so incredibly disappointed. We laughed about it later. Much later! :o)

I love y'all's groom's cake, by the way. I always like the traditional chocolate with fruit version.

Beautiful wedding and honeymoon pictures! It made me smile this morning to see the Westin Maui - we stayed there for our honeymoon too. Almost 5 years ago! Were the Christmas decorations up yet when you were there? They had the most beautiful Christmas trees and pink poinsettas everywhere. I have a baby girl, Annabelle, who is 3 months - so I have loved reading about Harper and hearing what we have coming in the next few months! I also borrowed your crib pictures with the months written down idea!

I went to Maui for my honeymoon 7 1/2 years ago. It was the end of April and the end of whale watching season but we still got to see some whales. We stayed at Kannapali Shores and it was amazing. It is funny that you said you want to go back and see more of the island because when we went we staryed for 8 days and we were so busy we had no time to just sit and relax. We went over to Lanai another island adn snorkeled, and then we had a sunset cruise that was tons of fun but no sunset due to rain coming in, we had a helicopter tour, and we did the dreaded road to Hana and it was L.O.N.G. We were to young to rent a car so we road the bus everywhere, it wasn't as bad as we thought it would be riding a bus on our honeymoon. Needless to say we want to go back and just lay on the beach and relax!

Your cake is so pretty, I love the flowers you used.

Oh my gosh! We stayed at the Westin in Maui for our honeymoon! Isn't it the most romantic place you've ever been to? We want to go back so bad...maybe once our baby girl is a little older and we can play with her on the beach. Thanks for sharing!

Kelly- my husband and I went to Maui on our honeymoon too! We rented a convertible and actually went on the trip to Hana. If you ever go back, I would highly recommend this trip! It was such a perfect, romantic honeymoon! If you have time, stop by my blog and look at the pictures. I just recently posted them. I have been following your blog since Harper was born, and you are truly an amazing Christian woman and such an inspiration to me! Much love and keep up the good work =)

We didn't go to Maui on our honeymoon, we go every other year because my parents have a timeshare.

Hula Pie is my father's favorite as well. He even bought a Hula Pie plate to keep in the sunroom.

If you ever get back let me know and I can tell you all the places that we love to go.

By the way, you are beautiful!!

I went to Hawaii on my honeymoon. Before I got married I has been almost no where, so I had no idea where I wanted to go for a honeymoon. My husband suggested Hawaii. I was like, "Sure, OK." He said I would love it there and I was like, "If you say so."

But then we got there and within a day I was like, "This is so great!"

Hawaii is definitely a great honeymoon spot! I went to Maui too!
