Daddy's Girl

Today I met my friend Denise for lunch at Table Mesa in our town. If you live in NWA - you must eat here! SOOOOOOO good. I've wanted to go forever and I'm sad it's taken me this long. The guacamole was the best ever! I will be going a lot now. Denise and I worked together 7-8 years ago and have stayed friends. She had her miracle granddaugther with her today. Jadyn was born at 28 weeks almost a year ago and stayed almost 3 months in the NICU and now she is perfect. What a blessing to see her and Harper happy and eating out today!
While we were in Magnolia this weekend - I got out Scott's old baby pictures to see if Harper really is her daddy's daughter. I did a few side by side comparisons. You are all so sweet when you say she looks like me - but she is the spitting image of her daddy. Here they are in the same high chair. :-)

Scott on his first birthday and Harper at 7 months. I think the only difference is she has my round face and maybe my olive skin.
And doing their mouths the same! ha! I'm pretty sure Scott could not be more thrilled than to have a little girl that looks just like him! ha! She is such a mess. Apparently traveling makes her hungry because last night when I fed her before bed she ate two big jars of baby food and a thing of yogurt and nursed and was begging for more. I was afraid she would explode. ha!

This is our last quiet week before things get busy so we are trying to enjoy it. I'm so glad to have a few days of being at home this week. Next week things will start to get busy because I will be doing a women's Bible Study each week, we are going to join a MOPS group (Mothers of preschoolers) with some of our friends and we will have play group. I'm so excited about all the things we will be involved in but we will be two busy (but happy) girls!!!

And I'm trying to plan our trip to the beach in a few weeks and I need your help. I know SO many of you vacation in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach. If you have recently - what is your favorite restaurant??? Our favorite thing to do is eat out each night and we want to go to really good places - so leave me a comment and tell me where to eat (ya'll know how much I like food! And the friends and family we will be with are the same way!)

Happy Monday!

If your heading through mobile you MUST stop by Cafe 615 on Daupin St. My husband is the Exec Chef and the food is FANTASTIC. I have to say it is a little pricing but definately worth it. Especially Sunday Bruch. Visit

Kelly,
All of the restaurants mentioned are great. It's hard to go wrong with seafood in Gulf Shores! One of the best restaurants is the Tin Top in Bon Secour. It is worth the drive! Delicous! Here's their link: http://www.tintoprestaurant.com/
Also, King Neptune's is a great value and Doc's is delicious, too! We are headed down to Gulf Shores in October. I can't wait to try some of the newer restaurants I've been reading about in the comments!

Sorry Kelly - she looks just like Scott! WOW! Since you'll be close to Foley, AL - check out the outlets and eat at the Mellow Mushroom (it's pizza)

Yay! I love reading the comments. We are going to Gulf Shores at the end of Sept. Can't wait!!!!

Hey Kelly,
I love your blog. I have never commented. I found you when Harper was born and in the hospital. I live in Florence,MS, but travel frequently to Mountain View, Arkansas.
We love Gulf Shores. I have read a few of the comments. Lulu's is good, but usually a long wait. We found lunch was best for Lulu's. Lambert's is great. Also, for seafood, we like Doc's at Orange Beach. Not much to look at, but great food. Also, Gulf Shores Steamer (or something like that). We tried Tacky Jacks in July and they have great burgers. Go to the Warf - it is real neat and very pretty at night with the lights shining on the palm trees.

I am glad you and Harper are joining MOPS. I am a retired Council Coordinator for the state of MS. I don't know how young mothers would make it without MOPS. It is a great ministry.

Hope you have fun at the beach!!

I know you're asking about restaurant choices for Gulf Shores, but I just saw that an Andy's Frozen Custard has opened in Fayetteville. Girl, you HAVE to go try it!! It's DELISH. When my daughter was 18 mos or so, we could spell Andy's BACKWARDS, and she still knew what we were talking about! :) I know it's not a restaurant, but it's something you don't want to miss.

Kelly, this is my first time to post a comment..so who knows where this will end up. I love the pics. I wrote on your FB just the other day that she looks like Scott. I can see you too though! She is beautiful! Tracey

Definitely eat at Cobalt in Orange Beach. We were there in June and it was fabulous - best meal of our trip by far! Plus, it has a terrific view of the water. Here's the link: www.cobaltorangebeach.com

The Shrimp Basket is had very lightly breaded/fried shrimp, it's a hole in the wall place but we go there at least a couple times the week we're in town. With all these ideas, I think we'll only make it once. I've been stick tallying and I think we'll try Lulu's, Lousiana Lagniappe, and Hang Out for sure. We get to go in a few more weeks, I can't wait. I didn't see my comment so I apologize if it's in here someplace.

My family and I go to Orange Beach often and always, always, always go to two places - Doc's (for their Royal Red shrimp) and The Original Oyster House. We have even been known to go to the Oyster House two or three times in one vacation ... it's THAT good.

Have fun!

Kelly~
the comparison pictures are so cute! Both of my kids look just like their daddy =)

I lived near Gulf Shores/Orange beach for 4 years and we still vacation there every summer. I recommend Lamberts in Foley (yummy southern cooking) For a fun atmosphere check out Lulu's (there is usually great music playing and the food is good...must have the fried green tomatoes!) For good seafood I recommend King Neptunes in Gulf SHores (very small place but so good!)and Doc's (go to the one in Orange Beach it has the local flair to it) Across the bridge in Orange Beach heading to Pensacola is the Crab trap which is usually a hit too. We tried the Guy Harvey restuarant this summer at the Wharf and is now my absolute fave and would drive all the way there every weekend just to eat there (but it is pricey...about $70 for an appetizer and 2 meals)

Anyway...have fun at the beach! Oh and I put vaseline on my kids so the sand does not stick...works like a charm and we never have diaper rash =)

All of the good things you are hearing about LuLu's (get the LA caviar - it's black eyed peas)...so true. Definitely eat there on a day that you hit up the outlet mall in Foley. Cosmo's is inland and their food is wonderful; they had a lot of non-seafood options on the menu. When we went they also had a little band playing on their patio area and kids were dancing everywhere. Calypso Joe's is on the inland waterway and is wonderful. The decor is so cute. And we always try to hit up the Original Oyster House while we are there.
Good luck picking some places to eat.

ok i know you have already gotten a million comments about restaurants... but i too live in the area, and have some recommendations:

LuLu's: awesome food, family friendly, jimmy buffet's sister, great atmosphere

Cosmo's: great food, live music, nicer, sushi too

Doc's: very casual, fried seafood, hole in the wall, best fried shrimp in town!

Cobalt: family friendly, great sunset, well rounded menu, very good, nicer

Tacky Jacks: breakfast or lunch... casual and delicious!

Wolf Bay Lodge: great fried seafood, casual, wonderful salad bar

Grazie's & Louisiana Lagniappe: both good, more fine dining less kid friendly places, definitely dinner

Desotos in Gulf Shores is fabulous!!! Also the pizza at Papa Roccos is wonderful. If you eat raw oysters that is what they are known for. It looks like a total dive but it is worth it.

You must go to Bahama Bob's and get the Baked Panga (not sure of the spelling). It is absolutely the best. Hope's Cheesecake also has the most wonderful cheesecake. Enjoy your vacation. Our family goes every summer. It is a great place for families.

Wow Kelly Harper does look like her daddy but I see her in you too. Yall made one cute baby!!

If you are in Gulf Shores I would suggest Sea n Suds. Its on the beach and has great food!!

Kendra said...

I absolutely LOVE Gulf Shores. You have to eat at Lambert's (home of the throwed roll--HA!). I think someone else said it already, but it's about 20 minutes north of Gulf Shores in Foley...right by the outlets! :o) Sea-n-Suds is always a favorite, too. We love to eat breakfast at The Pancake House...it's inside the Best Western (on the beach) in Gulf Shores. And we've never eaten at "The Hang Out", but I have heard it's very family-friendly. :o)

Hope ya'll have fun!

Kelly,
You absolutely HAVE to go to Lambert's Cafe, home of the "throwed rolls." The food is great and the atmosphere is very fun. Have a great time!

Oh, you will love MOPS! I have been involved with my group since it started, about 4 years ago. I just love it and have made some great friends!

We don't go to Gulf Shores without eating at The Crab Trap (over the bridge in Perdido), the Original Oyster House (Yummy salad bar and seafood) and The Gulf Shores Steamer. The Steamer is a hole in the wall, but the best for crab legs and royal red shrimp. Lamberts is fun, but a TON of food. It is near the outlets in Foley. Have fun and eat lots!

We go to Gulf Shores every year and also love to eat out at different places.

* Tacky Jacks for breakfast
* Original Oyster House or King Neptune's for seafood
* LuLu's for a cheeseburger in paradise or a BLT with fried green tomatoes
* Lambert's for lunch while you shop at the outlets in Foley
* Jesse's in Magnolia Springs, AL (just a few miles northwest of Gulf Shores) for something special. My husband always gets the Bourbon Steak and I love the shrimp scampi.

Lambert's for the tossed rolls and don't forget to sign the guest book.

The Gulf Shores Steamer is AWESOME! We're from Louisiana, so we are picky about our seafood and this place is great! The Royal Red Shrimp are so yummy and are served with a big side of melted butter! Very kid friendly.

Lamberts is great, too. It's great to go early in your stay because you'll have tons of left overs :)

Hey Kelly,

We just got back from Orange Beach, and as always, it was awesome! So, I recommend....Cobalts, Lulu's(yummy fried green tomatoes), and there is this little place that we found called The North Shore that has awesome breakfast and burgers! It's in the San Roc Cay center that other people have been talking about. We also went to Nix, which was very good, but on the expensive side. Y'all will have so much fun! My baby LOVES the sand....I'm sure Harper will have a great time! Also, we always go through Brett/Robinson for our condo arrangements. My parents have used them for 20 years now and everything always goes so smoothly and they are very accomodating. The prices should be really good since you are going with the fall rates! Have fun!!
