Hit me with your best Shot!

This is Harper's Hook em Horns outfit in honor of her aunt and uncle - the Texas grads. I don't know what on earth possessed me to let her wear a burnt orange outfit and bow but all you TX fans enjoy. If I could just teach her the "down horns" sign.
It's been a rough morning here at our house. Little sunshine had an "issue" this morning so we ended up at the doctor's office and they tried to pull blood from her (exhibit a. - her right arm) and I was in the other room and could hear her screaming her lungs out. It was just awful. So they sent us to the hospital to try again. (exhibit b. - her left arm). This time they let me stay with her and I held her head and sang her favorite song "I'm a little teapot" and she smiled the whole time. But in between - while we were being "admitted" to the hospital she screamed so loud the whole hospital was looking because she was tired and hungry. Bless her sweet heart. So in a week - we should find out if she has any food allergies. And I find out what I need to quit eating. Or we may be going to formula if it's a lot of things. Stay tuned.............

This afternoon, I had a knock on my door and it was my neighbor/friend Melissa. She is seriously one of the most thoughtful people I have ever met. She thought I might be having a tough week so she brought me a little gift - this CUTE, CUTE cocktail ring. I am so into big rings right now and I just ADORE this. Melissa - you have such a giving spirit!!!

Well - it's taken all day but my sweet pea is taking a nap and I don't need to waste time on the computer when I could be folding laundry (when does it ever end?????) or cleaning house. Have a great night! It's hump day!

Update: My day just got better - Scott came home and surprised me with a new iphone!!!!!! My phone was years old and now that iphones are on sale - Scott thought I could use a little lift today! Now could someone please teach me how to use it!!! Watch out - I may be "tweeting" from my phone now! I feel so high tech!

Keeping you in my heart in GA.

Wow! I LOVE that ring!! That is so thoughtful and sweet! I hope everything turns out okay with Harper! She does look mighty cute in her orange. Although I'm a Texan, I am not a Longhorn :)

Could I totally be reading this wrong...what is hump day??? Maybe type-o. Anyway, your little Harper has the cutest eyes and facial expressions! Love the orange!

Ohh! That picture made me so sad! My daughter had an issue when she was itty bitty, too. We tried get blood at the pedi's office and ended up at another dr's office where she screamed so much I think every medical professional in that building came into our room to check on her! She had bandages on both hands and both feet. I called my mom and cried and cried when it was over! Bless your heart - I know how that feels! Praying that everything will come out okay.

I saw the cutest orange Sam Edelman sandals the other day, but I'm a LOYAL Oregon Ducks fan and cannot wear the colors of the enemy (Oregon State Beavers).

The cocktail ring is darling - I love big chunky jewelery like that. I have several pieces (from Mom-o-Matic's Etsy Shop) that are similar to that, made from old fashioned clip on earrings!

Gracie Beth said...

Oh, bless her sweet little heart about about having to have blood drawn that is just terrible. And I may be partial, but I think Harper looks excellent in orange.

i love that ring! it looks like it would match some of my stella & dot stuff!

also, i'm so sorry harper had a difficult time with the 1st blood draw attempt. i'm so glad your motherly instinct told you to distract harper during the blood draw. i am pursuing a career in child life helping kids cope emotionally in the hospital and that is one of our many interventions, especially with someone as young as harper.

Kelli said...

Hook 'em Harper!!! :) I hope everything is ok with the results!

I completely understand about taking blood. My little one at six months had to have blood work. I though they would just poke her heel again. Nope! After poking each arm, they finally got the needle in. It was horrible. My baby cried and cried. I had to help hold her down while two nurses held her down also and drew the blood.

Once it was all done, I picked up my baby and had a good cry. The next day both her arms were covered in little bruises.

vera said...

Aaw poor baby! I had to give up almost EVERYTHING for three months while they thought my daugther had a milk protein allergy (not just milk, but milk protein, which I discovered was in pretty much everything that tastes good!) Thankfully she didn't, because that was a miserable time (although I did lose a lot of weight ha ha!)

Oh no! Sorry she had some problems today. I have been there before w/the blood draw with my older girls, and boy was it hard. Just curious, what issues was she having? I am asking because my little Carter (3 months) is not sleeping AT ALL at night, and I'm starting to wonder if it's something I am eating. I hope you get some answers soon!

John and Susan Combs said...

Oh girl, I feel your pain! Our 12 month old had a soy and dairy allergy.....breastfeeding didn't work with that combo. She had to be put on an expensive formula called 'Pregestimil.' It costs $30/can (powder)! We're in the process of trying new foods with soy and dairy, hoping she's outgrown her allergy. Everything will be okay!

Sweet Harper would look cute in any color! But, I agree with you about TN! Haha! I also LOVE LOVE the ring. Where did she get it? Hope Harper's food allergies are few to none.

Keely said...

Harper looks adorable all the time...even in burnt orange. (: Hope you get to the bottom of whatever issues she's having. Food allergies are no fun, but it's definitely better to know about them and go from there.
And what a sweet husband!!

Andrea said...

Hey Kelly,

Harper is too cute for words and I adore your new ring!!!
I just got an iphone last week and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. If I can work it, so can you. You need to plug it into itunes and set up an acct and then you can download facebook and other apps. I have an app for Eonline ( ya know to get all my celebrity news...ha ha) and an ap for movies...I can pull up listings, what time, etc. So many fun things. You will LOVE it! Congrats! :)

Kelli said...

That is a cute dress that Harper has on and I love the phone. What a sweet hubby!

Lindsay said...

Harper is a cutie, there is no denying that, but, it is so hard for me to see her in burnt orange. You see, I went to Texas A&M, I am an Aggie and well...UT is the other school in Texas to me. HAHA!! No worries though, maybe I will just have to get her an Aggie outfit. Maroon and white would look great on her right??

Rory said...

We taught Caroline "horns down" when she was 1 1/2. We will wait until she is a little older to teach her the "other" Texas saying.

Michelle said...

Oh I hope little Harper is okay ! You lucky gal...I so want an iPhone. Enjoy !!!

B and D said...

I totally understand that she doesn't need to learn to put her Horns Up right now, but please don't teach her horns down. She's too little and precious for such shenanigans :)

In all honesty, I didn't initially think Longhorn when I saw the picture and I think she'd look cute in any color- burnt orange, red, maybe even maroon... Maybe. Hee hee!

Mike, Kacy & Wells said...

Chris & Carrie are nice and all, but Wells said no girlfriend of his would be caught in orange. Ha.

I hope everything is okay & no allergies are found. I know that must have been scary!

Amanda said...

That burnt orange could just as easily be an Auburn Tiger outfit!! Just pair it with a navy blue bow and she'll be saying, "War Eagle!" before you know it!! :)

Hilary said...

The one thing that I never realized actually mattered is that you're supposed to plug your iphone into your computer on a regular basis so that it can get all of it's updates. I thought I would be fine if I just charged it by plugging it into the wall - so definitely plug it into itunes every week or so!

Alison said...

I love the outfits! Praying for Harper, if you do have to go to formula do not feel guilty. I had mother's guilt for a week when we had to switch but the doctor told me it was ok, I am still a good mother! Hoping everything is fine!

Jen said...

Harper is cute reguardless of the color of her outfit. I'm a blue and maze girl myself. :)

I hope everything works out with her allergies. That had to be so hard listining to her cry when you couldn't be in the room with her. Poor little thing.

Congrats on the I-phone. One of my friends has one and it is about the coolest thing. Too much phone for me. I still haven't figured out how to work all the features on my LG Dare.

Have a great day and thanks for the email. I'm in the process of writing you another one.

Oh girl I am like you, me and my family are some of the biggest Razorback fans there is and I am with ya on the Texas deal. But I have to say the burnt orange looks good on Harper, I am sure there is not much she doesn't look good in!! I got an IPhone for Christmas and I love it, they are really easy to use, won't take you much to figure it out. I am not technology inclined at all and I got the phone figured out!! But anyway Good Luck with the phone!! Till next time.

my 3rd little girl, now 2 1/2 months old is milk intolerant, among other things. In order to keep nursing her, I am off ALL diary, soy and nuts. It seemed overwheleming at first and I do miss my eating out and all my fav. meals. But, it was so worth it. 10 days later I have a new child!!! She went from crying every waking moment, broken out skin and tons of snot, to a perfect baby!!!

Good Luck!

I am so sorry for you & Miss Harper. I remember when our son with Ds had to have blood drawn (a lot) when he was an infant and it was soooo hard every time. I hope her issues are easily figured out. Kelly, wanted to offer you support and ideas. When our first son was first born, he was having all sorts of problems, including horrible crying, crankiness, not sleeping, etc. He ended up allergic to SO MANY THINGS that I quit breastfeeding, thinking it would be easier.

NOT. He ended up also allergic to soy, so he drank Nutramigen formula, a hypoallergenic expensive fformula. He was WORSE. By the time we realized this, it was too late to go back to breastfeeding, although I tried really really hard.

Consider this an ideal way to get gorgeously svelte.....and get really really healthy!

For support and to be so happy you wil cry and cry and cry, please go to the library and rent "IS THIS YOUR CHILD - DISCOVERING AND TREATING UNRECOGNIZED ALLERGIES" by Dr. Doris Rapp. You will not believe your eyes as your read this book. For a sneak peak at the book, check out our allergy webpage that I made years ago. That book CHANGED OUR LIFE!!!

I wish you much luck - but on the good side, if you find out what she is drinking is causing her problems, you will have so much POWER over this situation!! Your little sweety will finally get some relief and rest!!

I think she looks great in orange!! that stinks that she may have food allergies. Lauren is lactose intolerant and may be allergic to gluten. They told me that they couldn't test her this young so it is interesting that your doctor did. I will be looking forward to hearing what you find out.

You will LOVE your new iphone. I got one a few months ago & I love it. I had always had the free phones before. Download the Urban Spoon app--Brad & I use it when we can't decide where to go for dinner.

Jenny said...

I'm so sorry to hear about Harper needing blood work. My daughter has a tree nut allergy that we just found out last year (she was 4 at the time).

The pediatric allergist did the skin prick test and said that the blood work wouldn't be very accurate if it's done during the reaction.

I hope everything gets straightened out.

Woohoo on the iphone!

Paula said...

Love the ring! My baby had allergy tests at that age (due to reflux/spitting up, excema, colic). Ended up negative, so I just had to do an elimination diet and both my boys were allergic to dairy and soy protein in my diet. They outgrew it at age one. Anyway, hope for your sake its negative, but please feel free to comment on my blog if you have any questions about the diet-if they have you try it. My breastfeeding SIL is on the diet now....the dairy/soy intolerance is actually pretty common in babies.
Enjoy your new phone! Fun!

Poor Harper and poor mommy! I hope you find what you need to know from this and don't have to keep having stuff done.

Love the outfit, this is one of her colors. We are Sooners so I don't know if I could have put orange on my kids, except at Halloween time.

Hubby bought me an iphone a few weeks ago and I love it! I didn't intend to get one when we went shopping but he talked me into it. It really is a time saver for me. I can check internet stuff quickly rather than sit down at the computer. If I sit down at the computer, I waste way too much time! I have even started keeping my grocery lists on there. I can keep a running list of things I need from different stores and just delete when I get them. No more pieces of paper to keep up (or forget!). Word of warning, my hubby got one too and cracked his screen after he had it only four days. He didn't get a case and dropped it on our wood floors. Everything we've read after the fact says a case really makes a difference. I ordered a pink ifrogz case from Amazon and gave him the red one I had gotten at the phone store. Love the pink! And, the one from Amazon is half the price, of course. Enjoy!

Doesn't that just break your heart to hear them cry when you know it's being done for their own good? Vac days at the pediatrician just make me sad - so I always reward LuLu with a new outfit afterward. All three of mine were formula fed and they are smart, cute kids. You do what you need to do and what works best for your baby. Who looks darling in orange by the way!

We just had allergy testing done on our 9 month old a couple of weeks ago- real fun! We went to a pediatric allergist this week and found out he is allergic to milk, I have to tell you though- going to an allergist was best thing we have done- he wanted to solve the problem & treat the symptoms of all that had been going on, not just the symptoms! We had to go to soy formula.

Poor Harper and poor mom!!! I know how hard this is, but coming from someone who had a HORRIBLE experience trying to have blood drawn from her newborn, you are SO lucky that they sent you to the hospital to have them try and didnt just keep sticking her a ton of times in the office!!! My pedi office stuck Addie 4 times, and kept blowing out her little veins and then the nurse finally said im telling the dr we are NOT doing this anymore. It was AWEFUL!!!! Hope everything comes back ok!!!!

Dear sweet Kelly,

Love and prayers are coming your way....but please know that WE HAVE BEEN THERE! My 20 month old has food allergies and we found out when he was 8 months old. It will be ok, one way or the other. I pray that little Harper has NO allergies, but in case she does, Just know that it is MANAGEABLE! I nursed Layton until he was 14 months on a very restricted diet, but it was worth it in the end.

I will pray for patience in the next week.....and also pray for good news!

If you ever want to talk, feel free to email me!

Love from KY,
Brittany

OK...super jealous about your IPHONE. I covet them and want one soooooo badly. I even told my husband the other day that they were on sale now.....didn't seem to make a big impression on him. I'll keep working on him! Maybe he'll surprise me like your sweet husband did!

I have been praying for Harper for a long time now and I just wanted to tell you how b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l she is. I know this is no news flash for you, but mercy...she's a pretty girl! I have an almost 1 year old grandson named Jude if you want to work out an arranged marriage! ;)

I will pray that she's doesn't have a ton of food allergies and that you can continue to have your sweet time of nursing.

I LOVE MY IPHONE!

Ok seriously, it's the greatest thing since sliced bread...(you can put 2nd greatest thing...Harper) anywho...

You guys need to set up only 1 iTunes account you can register both phones on it and share any apps that you pay for.

Also I use Livestrong and Lose It on there, both free (so many that are free you really don't have to pay for much) I like both for different reasons. I did a post about them on my blog www.jodiandmat.blogspot.com it's on there, worth the click. By using those 2 apps since Feb (when I got my phone) I have lost 20 lbs...talk about accountablity!

I also use Twitterific app for Twitter, I don't have the unlimited txt so I just log in to it and all of my new tweets are there...so no added $.

There is budget tracking stuff-requires daily imput...but what doesn't.

Also...I just learned this...add people to your favorites under contacts...and it's 1-2 touch dialing. Otherwise you have to select from contacts...and then select the phone number...more steps than ness.

There is an update that is out...most "new" phone will still need the update, once your in iTunes and plugged in..it will be on the main screen to check for said updates...if nothings avalible...your golden. Coming either the 14th or 15th...there is a MAJOR update that will rock the iPhone world...way cool stuff on the way, makes it even better...can you tell I LOVE MY PHONE?

Ok tweet or email me if you have any questions.

I triple love my i-phone! I got mine last week. (A you can read on my blog miscbymichelle.blogspot.com). I'm not much of a "techy girl", and I am finding it pretty easy to use. I just need to get some applications that I really like. I appreciate the comment by fncycwgrl, I might have to use the advice she left for you! So far I have Facebook and The Weather Channel. Hope you enjoy! They are awesome! They do SOOOO much!

Hi Kelly~ I've read "lurking" on your blog for a while. I've followed your journey with Harper and prayed for her health and for love for your family. I truly believe God puts people in each other's lives for a reason. I wanted to e-mail this to you, but wasn't able to find your address. I believe God has had me reading your blog for a long time to help me come closer to Him. I am going through an incredibly rough time right now. If you read my blog, you can read my story. I'd love it if you could pray for me since I have seen the power of prayer in your life. Thank you Kelly so much for your inspiration and the way you live your life. God bless, Tori. Hook 'em horns,,,just had to say. Hope they figure out what she is allergic too, especially so you can continue to nurse. That expression in the 2nd pic is adorable..shows her little personality. So far I think she looks like you!

Chari said...

Sorry about the rough time!
If you really want to keep nursing, after you get those results back I would contact someone in the Le Leche League for advice. There are a few websites that are great about elimination diets as well. It's all depending on how far you think you can go if you want to stick with nursing.
Having worked in a doctors office and seeing how sick formula babies are I was very stubborn and kept up with nursing through all the problems we had.

Poor Harper! I found out the hard way that my little girl was allergic to eggs when she was 12 months old. I had given her scrambled eggs for the first time one morning and she LOVED them. Then I watched her for a bit and she seemed fine. I put her down for a nap, and when I got her up she was COVERED in a swollen, hot, red rash. Her eyes were even swollen, it was literally from head to toe. So I called my husband home from work and we rushed her to the ER. By the time we got there she was totally fine, no more rash...ha ha...I didn't give her eggs again for 8 months, and now she hates them. Ha.

Anyway, it's scary when you think something is wrong with your baby, especially at your own hand. I have heard that mothers should eat nuts or peanut butter while breast feeding. I didn't know that and totally ate all that stuff while breast feeding. Luckily I never had a problem. I hope Harper's little arms feel better soon.

Kelly,

I just had to comment, our husbands must be on the same wavelength today because I just got surprised with the newly discounted Iphone as well! I also need a tutorial. I have made a couple of calls from it, but that is all I have figured out how to do. A friend is pretty proficient so I am going to beg for some lessons. :) Hope your day is going better and maybe you got to relax a little after the laundry. And yes, it never does end.

Blessings,
Amanda

I love the ring! Friends and husbands that know when we need a "lift" are keepers!

I saw an idea for small brooches and sparkly larger buttons - they glued them onto push pins and used them on their bulletin boards. I thought rhinestones glued on thumb tacks would be fun, too.

Have a great day with your cute baby!

(PS - started Jillian last week - it's a great workout! She kicks it!)

Awww, I'm so sorry your baby had to get blood drawn. I don't like that either, and I'm an adult. I hope the angel doesn't have too many allergies.

The ring your friend brought you is so cute, and wow, the iphone from your hubby is great!

As far as the April Rose thing, I've got to say that I was flabbergasted when I read about that. My computer crashed a few days ago, so I haven't been on and today was my first visit back to your blog since last week. I can't tell you the times I thought about and prayed about that little baby that we now know never was. I just don't know how someone could do something like that.

My baby is 2 months older than Harper and started having blood in his stool right after his 2 month shots. Long story but I had to cut milk (protein) out of my diet. It was hard at first but they said it is so much better if you continue to brest feed (and it is a great weight loss plan). He slowly out growing it (the doctors said by 12 months he should have outgrown it) and now he still gets majority breast milk but we do supplemnet with a special formula when needed.

Laura said...

Hey Kelly, If it looks like you are going to have to start an elimination diet, you may want to start eliminating diary (the most common culprit) now as it takes about 2 weeks to get out of your system. Eliminating sounds tough, but I know so many who do it successfully and can keep on nursing until their baby has outgrown the allergy. Best of luck! Google elimination diet and you will get some tips online!
