Feeling My Age

So last week one night I went to the gym and I suddenly started having a small mid-life crisis. A guy that I graduated high school with moved to my town a couple of years ago and I've started running into him at the gym. We knew each other as 11 year old kids and when I see him I still see that 17 year old boy I graduated with. And as I was doing a step class I was thinking about that and then I started thinking....."WE WILL BE THIRTY-FIVE THIS YEAR!!!!" When did this happen????????? (I sort of hyperventilated for a few minutes) It was just yesterday that I drove my brand new white Chevy Beretta with a pink GT on the side that my parents got me for graduation to his house to pick him up for graduation practice. I felt so grown up and free!
It took 17 years to get from birth to graduation and that seemed like it took forever. How did the 17 years since graduation fly by so fast? I swear I am still 24????
And now I hear they are going to do a re-make of "90210". That was MY show. Those kids were exactly my age. They graduated high school and went to college the same year I did. I cried a little the year the show ended. So sad.
What is YOUR show? Do you have a show that defines your life at a certain point? I'd love to hear what it is and why?

My birthday is coming up soon, and I just blogged about those pesky divisible-by-five birthday! As far as TV shows go, I also LOVED 90210. And, I'm pretty sure I went to law school based solely on LA Law and Ally McBeal!

I lived with my grandparents in high school so some of the cool shows were out for me. I did like Saved by the Bell and thought Zach was so cute. I remember wanting to watch Fresh Prince of Bel Air but my Granny thought it strange.

I missed reading your blog. But yours was one Bryan checked during my off time. He filled me on what was happening!! Hee heee.

My sister will be 35 in May!!

I feel my age every time I'm with my neice Kayla who will be turning 15 in August. I'm not sure how much longer I will be the cool aunt.

Even though "my show" didn't come on when I was a teenager, it definitely reflected my life as a teenager in the 70's. The Wonder Years!! I have most of those shows taped and every time Steve and I watch them, we always get so sentimental remembering all our good times back in the day.

I loved Saved By the Bell and Full House! Those were my favorites! It was always funny!

You look 35 about like I look 38. Don't worry you look awesome. Use lots of skin care...that's my secret weapon.

TV shows poplar in 1988...let's see. I remember the show Thirtysomething, Cagney and Lacey and Rosanne. I knew the world was headed in a different direction when that show started airing. I also rememeber watching Knots Landing.

I was out of school and married before the 90210 show.

I loved (and still do) 90210~ I watch it when cooking dinner every night. LOL It brings back really fond memories of college life for me.

Oh goodness, how much time do I have??

I was a big fan of 90210 too (still excitedly watch the reruns when I come across them), I was really big on The Wonder Years as someone mentioned. Kevin Arnold--you will always be my first TV boyfriend. I watched Saved by the Bell every morning before school. Oh, and Dawson's Creek was way popular during my high school years. It was kind of the same thing you mentioned--the Creek kids and I were the same age.:)

This is a fun post! And girl, you are not even CLOSE to being/acting/looking old. Not by a LONG shot! :)

My husband and I both loved Saved by the Bell when we were growing up. I loved me some Kelly Kapowski! I swear Brandon wanted to name our Zachary after Zach Morris. He denies it, but I am not buying it!!

{sigh} I'll be 35 in June ~ it's coming like it or not! I still feel like I am in my early 20's too. At church I can always be found with the 20ish crowd. I don't want to act my age (heehee) One of the older teens said I like to pretend I am young =P yeah, I do! I LOVED 90210! I guess that would be my show too. Oh, and ER when it first came out. Now it just kinda gets on my nerves.

You are so funny! I too LOVED 90210 and many of my friends watched together as the last show aired. But my show was Dawson's Creek...I was OBSESSED with that show and balled like a baby when it ended...SADNESS!

I was a huge fan of 90210. I recently ran across the VHS tape that says '90210 Finale - DO NOT TAPE OVER!' - ha ha.

I do feel old (37!!)

TOTALLY grew up with Kelly, Donna, and the gang of 90210, too....I even remember the first episode I ever watched - where Kelly stole something from a store... Gasp! Rich kids gettin' their kicks! : )
After the Dillon started to look his real age and they all started owning their own houses, I abandoned the series! Good fun, though!

California Dreams and Saved By the Bell... Yes ma'am! I thought Kelly Kapowski had the best style EVER. Now I watch it (yes, I still catch an episode here and there) and I think "Why did I ever like ANYTHING she wore?!"

Oh, and I loved Friends... I still love Friends!

Kelly, I am a lurker but I love your blog and think you are just a wonderful woman (who looks no older than 27!)! I'm a few years younger but 90210 was also MY show! I have basically DVRed all the reruns on SoapNet (it's on EVERY day, usually in order) and cried when I saw the finale again. But watching them again has brought back so many fond memories! Although 9-0 was the big favorite, I also loved Party of Five and Blossom.

Oh girl 90210 was my show too a bunch of friends would get together every week just to watch it! Love it I feel old too sometimes but just remember its a number.

Age is just a number. Mine is 38 (ahem) Anyway, my show was "Mad About You". My hubby & I were first married when that show came on so we related to some of their issues they were going through. In fact, as lame as this sounds, when they started the dialogue about getting pregnant so did we!

I am 26 and was obsessed with 90210. I wasn't allowed to watch Melrose Place. Others I call my shows: Full House, Saved By the Bell and The OC. A few others that I used to love but didn't really coincide with my life would be Designing Women, Family Ties and the Golden Girls. My latest new show is probably Greys Anatomy or Sex and the City :)

I swear Dylan used to look RIGHT AT ME during the credits. I liked the college years post-Brenda the best.

And in my younger years I loved The Facts of Life.

I was so sad recently when I hit the big 3-0 but I'm totally fine with it now....I think:)

Anyway, I was all into 90210, Melrose Place, Wonder Years (I wanted to marry Fred Savage), and Doogie Howser, M.D. (I wanted to marry Doogie too, but we now know he wouldn't be into that "girl" thing). HA!

And you look like you are 24!

I am turning 35 this year too, ugh!
I would have to say one of my favorite shows was Three's Company, I loved Crissy Snow.... and Jack. I have no idea why I loved this show so much, but I remember looking forward to it every Tuesday night.

When I saw the 90210 crew on your blog a huge smile came aross my face! My brother and I used to have 90210 watch nights at my parent's house on Tuesdays..the good 'ole days! I also loved Saved by The Bell, Dawson's Creek and My So Called Life.
By the way, I was shocked when you said you were going to be 35..No stinkin' way!
p.s. yeah for David Cook tonight!

Jenna said...

For me it was Full House, Saved By The Bell and Fresh Prince of Bel Air! And Kelly, you LOOK 24!

I LOVED 90210 as well. I was married during the final season and I (like you) cried. :)

Anonymous said...

Oh, I did watch that show, too. However, I'm just a wee bit older than you, but does it really matter after 35????

Glad to visit your blog today. Looks great and it looks like you have great community going on.

The show "my so called life" with claire danes it only aired for a couple seasons but hands down it was my era! I was glued to the screen for every single episode! Where does the time go?

You know, I didn't even know about 90210 until I met you, Kandi and Kelly. I LOVED it though. I still watch reruns when I catch them while channel surfing. The hairstyles and outfits crack me up now, but I remember thinking they all looked so cute and cool. Funny! I know, I can't believe I'm 35!!!

hayden said...

Oh 90210 was TOTALLY my show in high school...and I felt so grown up that my mom let me watch Melrose Place too! haha. I remember the 90210 episode about Steve's friend dying from doing cocaine...that totally convinced me that I would never even so much as TRY drugs! Thanks Aaron Spelling!!!

In college my show was FRIENDS. That show definitely defines my life at that point. I recorded EVERY episode (with commercials) on VHS and even thought I have the DVD box set now...I refuse to get rid of my VHS tapes because the commercials are so retro and take me back to that time in my life!!!

I will be 25 this year and I have no idea where the time has gone. It is amazing how times seems to go faster the older I get.

I loved watching 90210. I also watched Friends and The OC. The CW is doing a remake of 90210. I am definitely going to give it a try.

I hope you have a nice week!

Jessica said...

90210 also, but you know that! Ha, ha!! : )

Unknown said...

ok, let's just get right down to it...do you really think the remake will be as good as the REAL thing? I'll be honest - I am VERY skeptical! I mean, seriously, how can you ever top the real 90210?

I am 32 and feel like I am 25. I can't believe that I am in my 30's. I think if I was married with kids I wouldn't be so obsessed with my internal a tickin...I almost feel like I can't enjoy my 30's due to people harping on me to meet someone...ugh! I love My So Called Life...I really wish they would replay on the TV. I can watch Roseanne, Three's Company, Designing Woman until I am blue in the face...love your blog!

this is fun..I sat here after I read your question and my mind just went blank.. I went ahead and read the other comments..and memories came flooding in. Saved by the Bell was one that I loved as well as Full House and the Cosby Show. I so enjoy watching the reruns of Full House and Cosby show with my children. Every friday night I would watch Dallas with my mom. We loved it! There are probably more, but my brain is fried!
oh..and you don't look 35 at all!! I would have never thought that!

I STILL love 90210!! I have started buying the series on DVD. I have seasons 1-3, and I love watching them! I know, I'm a dork! :-) I am excited for the new one, I hope that it is good!

Tamara said...

For me it was The Cosby Show, Family Ties, and Growing Pains. You think YOU'RE old? :)

Faith said...

Saved by the bell for me! There was also Full House, then when I was little older Party of Five, Melrose Place and Friends - oh my, how I loved me some Friends!

Anonymous said...

I'm so glad I'm not alone in these crises... I seem to have them often. I feel very old... no, I don't FEEL old, only when I ponder the fact that I'm 34. I can't believe it. I can't believe I'm close to 40... or that I'm closer to 50 than I am 16. That just seems so... wrong.
But I too was a 90210er... and a Saved by the Beller :)
But my FAVORITE show when in HS was Homefront, but apparently I was the only one since it didn't last but 2 seasons.

I loved 90210, Saved by the Bell, and Growing Pains. I had a poster of Kirk Cameron taped above my bed on the ceiling so I could wake up each morning and see his cutie self. Makes me laugh just typing that!! I just googled him and he's now a church evangelist. And I wanted to marry Dillon.
