Here she comes......................

What good southern girl doesn't love pageants? I have always LOVED Miss America. I can remember as a little girl my mom and I would always watch it together and eat popcorn and I would keep a little notepad to write down my scores. And then in college and after - Laurie and I traded in the popcorn for a tube of cookie dough as we watched those girls strut themselves in bathing suits and we criticized their large thighs. (between huge spoonfuls of chocolate chip goodness). ha!
Well - now my two loves have collided - reality TV and Miss America. Have you been watching? On TLC for the last 3 weeks - they have had all the contestants on there - trying to make them more modern. Trying to do away with the big hair and sequins and giving them up to date looks. I LOVE IT! Friday night is the last episode and then Saturday night is the pageant. It's so fun because now - I will already kind of "know" the girls I'm watching. Of course I will (as always) be cheering for Miss Arkansas (seen above). But she hasn't received any attention on the show - so it doesn't look good. I won't be home Saturday night but you can bet your bottom dollar I will DVR it and watch it the first chance I get!
Do you like Miss America? Have you been watching the reality show? And were you in pageants?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE pageants! My mom & I had similar parties when I was growing up with food and scoring notepads. I am actually going to a watch party this Saturday night at a friends house who's been in the Miss AR pageant.

I love pageants too!! Of course I wasn't in one! I was a fat kid and thank goodness didn't subject myself to that ridicule! I don't watch the show but now I might have to start!

I love that show!!! I have barely seen Miss Arkansas at all, so I'm afraid she may not go too far but you never know.

I had a good friend that was in pageants, she was a runner-up for Miss Arkansas one year. When we were around 16 she talked me into being in the Fair Pageant with her. It was not my thing, but I love to watch!!!

Oh the shows we miss since living here!!! I love reality shows.

I've never been in pageants, but I always had to work the Miss OBU pageant backstage..gag. Hated it.

I loved watching the pageant when I was little, too. So fun. I still like to watch it, but hate seeing them in swimsuits. How can real people look like that? I have seen that reality show once. It was the episode where they cut hair and the one girl said no. One time there was this guy that tried to get me to be in a pageant. Let me just say, just because you are tall doesn't mean you are pageant material. I am not graceful and I don't have a talent! I spared myself the embarrassment and just said no! I'll definitely be checking out the pageant Sat. night!

I'm officially OBSESSED with that show - but to be honest, I'm kind of bummed that they are trying to make them more modern - I love a good ole fashioned pageant girl! I can't wait until Saturday night!

I haven't seen the reality show, didn't even know it was on! LOL I do usually watch the Miss America, if I happen to remember. I was never in pageants, nowhere NEAR pretty or skinny enough. Now my girls, I'm convinced they would win every time! ;)

My Mom and I used to live for pageants. These days I honestly get so busy that I forget about TV. Unless it's on after 8:30 I don't generally watch it. I need to learn more about the whole DVR thing.

Thanks for the prayers. They are so appreciated. Do you think it would be morbid or anything to take pictures of him at the hospital to post?

P.S. Now I'm singing Annie...."Bet your bottom dollar..." Thanks, Kelly!

Um, yes ma'am we watched the pageants every year growing up...I actually e-mailed my sister today before I read your post about what snacks that she wanted to eat while watching on Saturday!!! We are pumped! I have also been watching the Reality Show, which I think will actually make the pageant more interesting because you feel like you "know" the girls! I'm so excited!!!

Too funny! I used to sit at home and write down the scores as well! I do love pagents. I won't be home Saturday and I don't have DVR yet, but I have been watching the TLC show.

Hi Kelly,
You don't know me, but I blog hopped and found your blog, so I'm going to de-lurk and tell you hi!

I love this show as well. And I've noticed that Ms. Arkansas hasn't gotten any attention too. It seems like they have been focusing on the same girls, but I guess they don't have time to cover everyone. Anyway, I can't wait to see who wins and what this new pageant is like!

I can't wait to see who wins!!! I haven't been able to watch the show lately but loved the ones I did see. I was never in pageants. I noticed at an early age that chubby girls with frizzy hair never quite made it! Ha!

Thanks for your comment the other day. I had a ton of fun on Sunday too! :)

I heart this show, too! I have to DVR it and watch it when my hubby is not around because he can't stand pageants.
I was in a few when I was a teeny bopper and had a great time and learned a lot about myself, poise, and confidence. It kept me accountable to be a good person, as silly as that sounds. But once I got older and a swimsuit division was required I suddenly wasn't so big on the idea of people "judging" me anymore.
I love to judge for myself, however, every year and do a pretty good job of picking the winner usually. Not sure what they will be looking for this year since they are trying to change things but hope to watch it as well!

Ok..growing up I loved watching the pageants and as most small towns we had a pageant that i went to every year. I was even in one...princess elberta.

Fast forward...I have a renewed interest in pageants after judging some the past few years. Super fun and very interesting as well as entertaining! I am actually serving on a pageant board of directors ( JC does it with me).

Soooo....kelly if you ever want to judge a pageant let me know...you might have to travel down here to texas but it will be fun!!

I also love watching the show and I'm sad b/c they aren't showing much of Miss Arkansas...I will be using the DVR due to a birthday party.

Hi Kelly - love your site - you are soooo creative!!!
I can totally relate to growing up on Miss America. The whole family would gather around the TV, to watch and cheer on Miss Texas.
Sooo my daughter and have been watching the TLC series and love it. Unfortunately Miss Texas hasn't been shown much either- bummer. Can't wait to see the pageant on Saturday!!!

I'm sure it's no surprise, but I have always loved pageants. I only have competed in a couple, but it was so fun to get dressed up. I just wanted to wear those fancy dresses! :)

Miss AR was at the pageant I judged a few weeks ago. I hope she does good. She was in the Miss AR pageant forever before winning. My friend Lori and her mom and sister are very into the America system and are actually traveling to the pageant in Vegas.

Guess we'll all be in front of the tv on Saturday.

This is what I get for not checking your blog every day. I didn't watch the reality shows and wish I did... and I only caught the tail end of Miss America tonight. Didn't even know it was on, but was flipping channels when I was laying down with E trying to get him asleep. It's coming on again so I have the DVR set now that I already know the winner.
And yeah, I was in this social club that nominated me to represent them in Miss OBU :) Only did a few more after that b/c there was this guy I was really anxious to marry :)
